Newcastle United have this afternoon placed Joey Barton on the transfer list. Following the player’s criticism of the club on his twitter account yesterday, managing director Derek Llambias has met with owner Mike Ashley and the pair have subsequently moved quickly to address the matter. Barton is allowed to leave the club on a free transfer.

Barton was a proven Fantasy performer last season, with his set-piece delivery a key factor in the club’s successful season back in the Premier League. Despite his renowned reputation, Barton seems to have settled of late and his hint of unrest behind the scenes follow those of team mate Jose Enrique. With Kevin Nolan also leaving St James Park this summer, Alan Pardew looks set to lose another of his consistent performers. In terms of Newcastle set-piece takers, it’s worth noting that both Yohan Cabaye and Sylvain Marveaux have had their fair share already this pre-season and perhaps offers a pointer as to who Pardew will opt for in light of Barton’s departure.

At 28 years old, Barton still has plenty in his locker and Fantasy managers will be hoping for a mid-table move that guarantees starts. Priced at just 6.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Barton should still prove great value for money with his free-kicks and corners always reliable to garner points- he picked up 4 goals and 9 assists last season.

Barton had earlier in the day stated he will comment on the situation at Newcastle via his twitter stream at 4pm this afternoon….

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Glen Johnson is not having his best game. I'm not sure who's playing in midfield - they're getting bypassed with ease. Not helping the defence much.

Bresnan was good, but we didn't really need his 90 today. Broad got 5-0 and a hat trick as well as getting us into a ok position in the first innings and scored fast in the second. I guess whether we needed the 90 or not he still scored it so fair play.

        Good team performance!

    Settling on this team guys:

    Given
    Ruddy

    Baines
    Kompany
    Hughes
    Alcaraz
    Simpson

    Lamps
    VdV
    Taarabt
    Moses
    Dyer

Carroll (Suarez as soon as sure to start)
    Bent
    Holt

I am encouraged by all the chat on here about lamps being overpriced, it may well be the case and if so I'll change him but if he gets off to a flier I could be in a great position early on!

The other one is Bent, I know people will insist that Rooney or RVP are essential (and i don't disagree at some point), but if there was odds for top scorer after the first 5 or 6 games I wouldn't be surprised to see Bent favorite.

Suarez is a no brainer, and will be in as soon as starting.

    Any thoughts much appreciated.

        but there is a problem.................
now that play makers young and downing have left , he wont get as many chances as last season so he needs to put away a higher percentage of his chances

this is a cool site, but it could be improved (a lot) with a dedicated message board/ forum. There could be a specific thread for 'Rate my team' posts, and it would mean general chat wouldn't have to happen under news posts, comments could actually be related to the post.

Advice please! So much tweaking is killing me!

    A) Baines, Taarabt, N'zogbia and Aguero (would give me expensive but reliable defence, but a mid level midfield and a decent strike force)

    B) Alcaraz, Silva, Benayoun and RVP (bigger hitter in midfield and the best strike force imo, Roon, RVP, Zam)

    Thoughts?

rooney/bent for fixtures to start and form. suarez not certain on start yet and rvp bad fixtures, aguero unproven so wait and see for him and tevez situation.

RVP - purely based on his premiership experience and goalscoring record - until he gets injured.

Rooney is nailed on, but has some tough opening fixtures. If he's in form, he is the man to have. If he's not, then look elsewhere.

Aguero is undoubtedly talented, but many talented players flop in the premiership. It's a wait and see on that one for me.

Carroll is not currently in form, but we know he has the quality - still not proven in a red shirt for me.

Suarez looks like he had lots of goals in him, but he there is some uncertaincy about if he will be rested at the start of the seaosn.

If they were all nailed on starters for the whole season, injury free I would pick RVP and Suarez, until Aguero finds his feet and starts scoring in the PL.

    hello all,

    a) Lampard and Ageuro
    b) Malouda and RVP

    Vote now.

Also, Im gona have a cheeky bet on Newcastle getting relegated.

When Barton goes their 3 best players from last season have gone, with enrqiue likely to follow.

If there were categories you could miss good threads and no one would get advice in an rmt section.

Fair points, but for anyone that wants RMT advice, it would be in their interests to give advice as well and then the forum would be alive for everyone.
And its easy to miss good stuff the current way isn't it? I've seen plenty of comments (just today) moaning that useful info is lost among RMT's and other stuff

    Evening all

This has most likley already been a topic of discussion so my apologies if ive missed it.

What are peoples feelings regarding baines?

Everton only kept 9 clean sheets last year compared to Man citys 18, to me this makes kompany/richards a much more attractive proposition as the Man city players would have a 36 point advantage. this means Baines would need to average a point game more than these players to be on a simular score.

Does baines attacking threat and the Man city rotation risk cancel this defensive advantage out?
