Our review of Gameweek 7 in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game brings you the usual info this afternoon. As always, we cast an eye over the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends before taking a look at the Scout team and our plans for Gameweek 8.

Gameweek 7 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Liverpool vs EvertonAdam Lallana
Chelsea vs Aston VillaCesc Fabregas
Crystal Palace vs LeicesterMile Jedinak
Hull vs Man CityEdin Dzeko
Man United vs West HamPaddy McNair
Southampton vs QPRSadio Mane
Sunderland vs SwanseaWill Buckley
Arsenal vs TottenhamAlex Oxlade-Chamberlain
West Brom vs BurnleySaido Berahino
Stoke vs NewcastlePeter Crouch

Cesc Fabregas, Edin Dzeko and Peter Crouch all picked up their second MoTM award this week and join Lee Cattermole, Raheem Sterling and Diego Costa on two overall. The majority of the other winners here are differentials, to say the least, with Paddy McNair not even available for selection until now. Sadio Mane presents probably the most interesting option – priced at just 5.8m, the Southampton new boy has some excellent upcoming fixtures to take advantage of.

Gameweek 7 Bonus Points

Three goalkeepers achieved bonus points from collecting five or more saves. Hugo Lloris, Tim Howard and Robert Green were the men in question, with Green now leading the way for keepers with six additional points.

In defence, seven players grabbed bonus, four for tackles and three for passes completed – budget option Calum Chambers came closest to getting both missing out by just three completed passes. Liverpool’s Javier Manquillo currently sets the precedent with eight bonus points so far.

In midfield, there were 14 beneficiaries in total: six for tackling and eight for passes. Battler Cheick Tiote picked up passing bonus on his return to the Newcastle first team and was unlucky not to grab tackling too as he missed out by a single challenge. Morgan Schneiderlin leads the way overall with 14 additional points.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RooneyMan United9.49.75%
RamseyArsenal8.67.20%
NobleWest Ham5.41.99%
MirallasEverton7.11.86%
DebuchyArsenal6.11.82%

Injuries and suspensions have forced the hand of many Fantasy managers with all of the above set to miss out this weekend. Similar to FPL, many owners of Wayne Rooney and Aaron Ramsey will be scouring the stats in a search for a worthwhile replacement.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
CostaChelsea9.55.49%
BertrandSouthampton5.14.92%
PelleSouthampton7.44.85%
DzekoMan City8.63.85%
SchneiderlinSouthampton6.63.75%

Southampton’s assets continue to attract suitors with a trio of Ronald Koeman’s players listed in the top five in. Ryan Bertrand, Graziano Pelle and Morgan Schneiderlin all look exceptional value and are in good form ahead of a kind fixture schedule – it’s hard to argue against owning any of them. Joining them are Edin Dzeko and Diego Costa, both forwards delivered the goods last week and again look smart acquisitions for the matches ahead.

My Team

Fabianski
Moore Hutton Van Aanholt
Hazard Ramsey Sterling Mirallas Eriksen
Rooney Aguero ©

ITB: 0.3m
Transfers remaining: 32/40
Last week’s points: 36
Overall points: 355
Rank: 5,957

Notes
A shocker from my team this week, picking up just 36 points and suffering injuries to Aaron Ramsey, Kevin Mirallas and a suspension for Wayne Rooney . Only last week I said I didn’t want to make any more subs for a while in an effort to pace myself but it looks as though I’m going to have to make wholesale changes or continue to drop down the rankings – the plan is to take all three out for Dusan Tadic, Angel di Maria and Diego Costa.

An Eden Hazard captain fail may well have spelled the end for him as well – with Cesc Fabregas rubbing salt in the wound by bagging passing bonus and MoTM, that’s one transfer I will have to do but I’m going to give the Belgian last shot this week ahead of the international break. Christian Eriksen is also on borrowed time after his lackluster performances but I just can’t justify using another swap ahead of a home tie – I’ll likely swap him out for Danny Welbeck, going 3-4-3 next week, or wait a little longer and opt for Theo Walcott if he can get back to fitness soon.

Captain plan
For Saturday, it’s one of Sergio Aguero or Raheem Sterling. I have the luxury of waiting until Friday to do that swap after banking my change from last week – always wise when you’re considering the injury-prone Aguero as your skipper.

On Sunday, I’ll give the armband to one of Di Maria or Costa, with the latter probably the smarter choice for a home clash with Arsenal.

Remember that with the international break next, you can skipper whoever you want on Sunday, safe in the knowledge you can use next week’s ‘blank’ Gameweek to then move the armband onto any player featuring in Saturday’s matches in Gameweek 10.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and were currently toping the Private League rankings as per usual. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch Fenners and Merse at 18:30 SkySports One HD where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football, quizzing former Leeds and Chelsea defender Michael Duberry and asking him for his #One2Eleven.

I am for sure. I was actually thinking about the fact that this one was televised - as well as AFTER all the other fixtures - when I brought in Downing. We play this game to have fun, and if we can spice up a game on telly a little extra then why not do it? 🙂

Here's a post I made last night about potential differential midfielders:

Go to this table, select compare with 2013/2014, and sort by Chance Created. Select and filter for players with 4 or more starts. There's some very intriguing choice in that group who have improved dramatically since last year. Also pay attention to Siggy's stats in particular - they are very revealing about what we can expect from him in terms of his goal/assist ratio this season.
    http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/player-stats/midfielders/kpi-attacking/

Also, here's some interesting stats on for a particular striker:
Go to this stat table, and sort by Pen Box Touches. Look at the guy with 29.7%. He's near the top in every category. Some improvement that!

Saw this, thanks. Good info. It's still quite early to draw conclusions from it but I'll be monitoring this. Also, I think the stats go out of the window when you get an attacking side against one with such a poor defence, but it will be interesting to see how it goes.

On the second one, do you mean 29.9%? (Just to make sure I've got the right player). Intriguing stuff 🙂

        • 11 Years

Yeah its early days, but you can clearly see which players have been given added attacking responsibility thus far - especially those 5-6 players who have increased both their Chances Created as well as Chances. Several of those are on set pieces and very cheap, and would be much better 5th mid options than Boyd for example.

No, its 29.7% green. Make sure you're comparing 2014/15 with 2013/14, I don't think that setting automatically copies from mine to yours.

Btw, I tried to do a similar comparison between sequences of games in the same season but it didn't work, as the year kept defaulting to 2013/14 for the second input.

I wanted to compare Yaya Toure's last two games versus his first four games to see if there's been any statistical improvement recently. If you know how I could do that using these stats tables it would be most appreciated!

Damn...leaking transfer at the moment in TFF due to injuries/suspensions, how do the following changes look? Hopefully to set me up until January:

    A) Ramsey & Rooney ➡ Downing & Aguero

    B) Ramsey & Rooney ➡ Di Maria & Lukaku

    C) " ➡ Di Maria & Welbeck

Southampton's fixtures after GW13 have put me off Tadic/Pelle, better alternatives anyway imo

Both! Honestly, Sánchez is too good a player to remain on the bench and Welbeck is going to be hard to ignore at that price in a free scoring team.

Having had a chance to get up to speed with the way the game is played in the Premier League it can't be long before Sánchez becomes a major points provider for FPL Managers. I'm guessing he'll be unleashed after the international break 🙂

Afternoon lads. I have Costa, ADM, Falcao & Siggy - but want to give the armband to Sterling. Should I be wary that Pool played midweek....?

I'd be more wary your passing of an option of someone playing against a team that can't keep a clean sheet full stop.

Hint, they're from the North East 😉

Cheers Pap. He's my VC 🙂 Although the Swan's attacking stats aren't filling me with joy...

I think Sterling's a reasonable punt. I don't really trust Liverpool enough though.

Thanks Scoutcast. Yeah, they're looking poo atm. Sterling seems to be a diamond in a rough though.

Yes you should be. Sterling is burn out. He may not start tomorrow.

Crikey... Just assumed Brendy couldn't do without his main attacking threat and he'd definitely start, albeit being a bit leggy. Thanks for the word of warning Costa.

Lukaku / Welbeck / Ulloa as a Rooney replacement?

I like the idea of Lukaku

I like the idea of Lukaku only if Martinez fields him up front. Lately, he has been put in the wing and that compromises his attacking returns. In this case, I'll go Welbeck. Much cheaper than Rooney yes and that money can be spent to upgrade other areas of your lineup.

Aside from that stinker against West Ham (then again, Rooney getting red compromised United...), he has been great! Yes, I'm a Di Maria owner. 🙂
