Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 8

Our review of Gameweek 7 in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game brings you the usual info this afternoon. As always, we cast an eye over the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends before taking a look at the Scout team and our plans for Gameweek 8.

Gameweek 7 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Liverpool vs EvertonAdam Lallana
Chelsea vs Aston VillaCesc Fabregas
Crystal Palace vs LeicesterMile Jedinak
Hull vs Man CityEdin Dzeko
Man United vs West HamPaddy McNair
Southampton vs QPRSadio Mane
Sunderland vs SwanseaWill Buckley
Arsenal vs TottenhamAlex Oxlade-Chamberlain
West Brom vs BurnleySaido Berahino
Stoke vs NewcastlePeter Crouch

Cesc Fabregas, Edin Dzeko and Peter Crouch all picked up their second MoTM award this week and join Lee Cattermole, Raheem Sterling and Diego Costa on two overall. The majority of the other winners here are differentials, to say the least, with Paddy McNair not even available for selection until now. Sadio Mane presents probably the most interesting option – priced at just 5.8m, the Southampton new boy has some excellent upcoming fixtures to take advantage of.

Gameweek 7 Bonus Points

Three goalkeepers achieved bonus points from collecting five or more saves. Hugo Lloris, Tim Howard and Robert Green were the men in question, with Green now leading the way for keepers with six additional points.

In defence, seven players grabbed bonus, four for tackles and three for passes completed – budget option Calum Chambers came closest to getting both missing out by just three completed passes. Liverpool’s Javier Manquillo currently sets the precedent with eight bonus points so far.

In midfield, there were 14 beneficiaries in total: six for tackling and eight for passes. Battler Cheick Tiote picked up passing bonus on his return to the Newcastle first team and was unlucky not to grab tackling too as he missed out by a single challenge. Morgan Schneiderlin leads the way overall with 14 additional points.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RooneyMan United9.49.75%
RamseyArsenal8.67.20%
NobleWest Ham5.41.99%
MirallasEverton7.11.86%
DebuchyArsenal6.11.82%

Injuries and suspensions have forced the hand of many Fantasy managers with all of the above set to miss out this weekend. Similar to FPL, many owners of Wayne Rooney and Aaron Ramsey will be scouring the stats in a search for a worthwhile replacement.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
CostaChelsea9.55.49%
BertrandSouthampton5.14.92%
PelleSouthampton7.44.85%
DzekoMan City8.63.85%
SchneiderlinSouthampton6.63.75%

Southampton’s assets continue to attract suitors with a trio of Ronald Koeman’s players listed in the top five in. Ryan Bertrand, Graziano Pelle and Morgan Schneiderlin all look exceptional value and are in good form ahead of a kind fixture schedule – it’s hard to argue against owning any of them. Joining them are Edin Dzeko and Diego Costa, both forwards delivered the goods last week and again look smart acquisitions for the matches ahead.

ITB: 0.3m
Transfers remaining: 32/40
Last week’s points: 36
Overall points: 355
Rank: 5,957

Notes
A shocker from my team this week, picking up just 36 points and suffering injuries to Aaron Ramsey, Kevin Mirallas and a suspension for Wayne Rooney . Only last week I said I didn’t want to make any more subs for a while in an effort to pace myself but it looks as though I’m going to have to make wholesale changes or continue to drop down the rankings – the plan is to take all three out for Dusan Tadic, Angel di Maria and Diego Costa.

An Eden Hazard captain fail may well have spelled the end for him as well – with Cesc Fabregas rubbing salt in the wound by bagging passing bonus and MoTM, that’s one transfer I will have to do but I’m going to give the Belgian last shot this week ahead of the international break. Christian Eriksen is also on borrowed time after his lackluster performances but I just can’t justify using another swap ahead of a home tie – I’ll likely swap him out for Danny Welbeck, going 3-4-3 next week, or wait a little longer and opt for Theo Walcott if he can get back to fitness soon.

Captain plan
For Saturday, it’s one of Sergio Aguero or Raheem Sterling. I have the luxury of waiting until Friday to do that swap after banking my change from last week – always wise when you’re considering the injury-prone Aguero as your skipper.

On Sunday, I’ll give the armband to one of Di Maria or Costa, with the latter probably the smarter choice for a home clash with Arsenal.

Remember that with the international break next, you can skipper whoever you want on Sunday, safe in the knowledge you can use next week’s ‘blank’ Gameweek to then move the armband onto any player featuring in Saturday’s matches in Gameweek 10.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and were currently toping the Private League rankings as per usual. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch Fenners and Merse at 18:30 SkySports One HD where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football, quizzing former Leeds and Chelsea defender Michael Duberry and asking him for his #One2Eleven.

McNair to partner Rojo again against Everton.

As a United fan, I was praying that Jones would be declared fit. I think Everton will score atleast 2 goals now 🙁

You are in the minority here Doos! 😀

        This is what I think

Soton have the best defense in the PL
Leicester have the worst defense in the PL
Burnley have 0 attempts on goal in the last 4 matches 😯
But Clyne can get attacking returns, too! 😀

    The case AGAINST Swansea's defense:

    http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/team-stats/defending/

Sort by any column and you'll see that Swansea aren't as solid as many seem to think (including me before now).

The general perception seems to stem from CS's against Burnley, WBA, and Sunderland, but was anything else expected after looking at their respective attacking stats, in the link below?

Sort by almost any category: http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/team-stats/goal-threat/

In their other games they beat a very limp United side, got an admittedly solid point with 10 men against Southampton (though the Saints seemingly struggle against parked buses judging by their 0-0 with WBA), and conceded 4 at Chelsea.

After this weekends home game against Newcastle, Swansea play sto, LEI, eve, ARS, mci, which is hardly an ideal run of fixtures. Leicester is the only good fixture, and they have already shown that they can score goals against anyone.

I was considering doing Lovren>Baines this weekend, but with 7 great fixtures (qpr, HUL, new, cpl, STO, lei, SUN) in their next 8, and a defense that isn't as bad as people think (according to the same stats above), I may just have to do Taylor>Baines instead.

        Hadn't seen that.

Do you think Fabianski's performance is sustainable though? They're got much tougher fixtures coming up and their defense isn't as solid as its perceived to be.

Same question. But in a different sense, is Bego/Fabianski still the best rotating combo out there? For that price, I would want 4 clean sheets out of every 5 fixtures.

Do you think Swansea will keep a CS against Leicester? I'm not too sure.

Begovic-Fabianski also have tot-ARS in gw11, not ideal.

This is gonna be controversial too, but I think Krul is a great 2nd keeper to Begovic.

The Southampton game apart, they've only conceded once away in games against Villa and Stoke, and the fixtures he would be needed for are wba, whm, bur, and SUN. Great rotation, and for 0.5 less than Fabianski.

Newcastle's defensive stats are generally solid beyond the goals conceded column too.

Haha, fair enough. I will be keeping a close eye on Mr. Taylor and Mr. Lovren this weekend though to decide who will be shifted on to accommodate Leighton, but right now its not looking good for the former.

Just switch Fabianski to Begovic, he is clearly the best choice, even better than Forster since he doesn't limit you to only 2 other Saints players.

        Yes, fair enough.

As I said though - 10 men against a team that has struggled against a team that struggles against deep defences, and 3 other teams who have terrible attacks (SUN, BUR, and to a lesser extent WBA)

Oh dear me, just as I was settled with my team! 😉

But great research by the way, I have seen these stats before and one of the reasons Fabianski makes so many saves is because Swansea are always conceding shots, left, right and centre

      1. rickardinho
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

If you trust the saves then its not a bad bet. I don't think Taylor is that great a pick anymore though after analyzing it. I was doing abit of devils advocate on my Lovren>Baines move and realized Taylor was the better candidate to go. It would also mean that I'm less exposed by Chambers' probable upcoming suspension too.

Naylor is a good pick, imo. As much as I love stats, the game is played on the field, not on paper. I also saw the entire Swansea-Southampton match and before the Bony sending off, they were all over them. Very unlucky not to come up with a win.

My issue here is that, I don't want to be reliant on saves. I am spending 10 million on goalkeepers, 10 million FFS! 😀

For that price, I would be expecting 4 clean sheets out of 5 fixtures.

          1. rickardinho
            • 9 Years

For sure, stats can be misleading, but they also have their place. If Swansea is throwing up such poor defensive stats after having a relatively easy run of fixtures I wonder what will happen now that they have a run of tough games?...

But if both of us get a Swans keeper/defender we'll be playing them for the easier fixtures anyways? I'm beginning to have some doubts though, as I said 4 cleansheets out of every 5 games should be the benchmark

Yes, but that depends how "easy" you view how games against Leicester and Palace. I certainly won't play Taylor in any other games, and those are two great counter-attacking teams...

I'm sure they would have kept a CS against Southampton the other week, but for that red card. Leicester at home shouldn't be a problem, people are overhyping them after the United game. They are a poor side away from home. The CPL game will be more trickier, imo.

This is what I get with Fab/Bego till the Jan WC.

                  NEW,SWA,LEI,whm,tot,BUR,CPL,QPR,whm,cpl,hul,AVL,WBA

Do you think there is 4 clean sheets out of 10/13 clean sheets, in that? That is what I would want, for the price I am playing. Also I wouldn't be wasting one of my transfers on GK after I WC, so answer carefully!

To be honest, Taylor was abit of a knee-jerk trade for me, as I panicked when I saw that Caulker was about to drop in value. In hindsight I wish I had just held on to Caulker another couple of weeks and traded him for Baines instead, since his price hasn't dropped yet anyways, and I haven't played Taylor in either of the last 2 Gw's. A bit of a wasted FT really.

And besides, I have 6.8itb just collecting dust right now, and won't be spending that in any of the next 2-3gw's either as my eyes are on Baines and a midprice forward, so I can certainly afford Lovren over Taylor.

You would choose Lovren over Taylor if money was no object right? With these fixtures...

I probably wouldn't, to be honest. As I said, I think both are worth the same as even in the easier fixtures Liverpool tend to concede. I think we'll be better off discussing this after 24 hours with the gw 7 defensive stats in our hand! 😀

Nice team though I'd play Moore over Clyne personally. Advising you as a teammate. 😉

Who would you sell, fabregas or sterling? Freeing up funds for aguero, either works...

Fabregas out of those two but would try and find another way

    PLEASE HELP.

Is this team good to go?

    http://gyazo.com/b31620f92323094b65ac8c86439c5e70

Not sure who to rest, PVA, Ivan or Clyne. Already have Moore who will start as they are playing Burnley.

Also I have Chaili benched not sure if I should swap him with someone else.

    Help appreciated.

    Thanks

I'd play Ivan over PVA. But otherwise good

I would definitely not bench Ivanovic and I would play Chadli ahead of Puncheon

I'm worried that Chadili may return back to his inconsistency but also would you take off Sterling?
