Jose Enrique looks like following Joey Barton through the St James’ exit door. Sir Alex Ferguson talks up Phil Jones and Ashley Young, while hinting at a possible exit for a certain enigmatic Bulgarian. Jack Wilshere’s ankle knock is fine, he tweets. Roy Hodgson enthuses over new Baggies boy Zoltan Gera and Stephen Hunt predict a less-defensive Wolves next season. This morning’s Scribbles are here, folks:

Jose Enrique’s proposed move to Liverpool is looking more likely by the day. The left-back has one year left on his contract at Newcastle and the club are now ready to cash in, following a summer of unrest on Tyneside. The move would be of significant interest to Fantasy managers- priced at 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the Spaniard would offer plenty attacking impetus and defensive returns if his move to Anfield transpires.

Jack Wilshere’s ankle knock should only keep the midfielder for a few more days. The 19 year old took to twitter last night to confirm the initial prognosis of the Arsenal medical staff, after he picked up the injury against New York Red Bulls last weekend. Wilshere tweeted:

“Ankle scan just showed some inflammation. Hopefully will settle down in a few days.”

Sir Alex Ferguson provides up with plenty to consider this morning. Speaking to the club magazine Inside United, Fergie suggested Phil Jones may play a bigger part in first-team matters this upcoming season than many have anticipated:

‘You might think he might not play, but the ability he’s got and the determination he’s got, he could quite easily play. He’s the future obviously, but he could certainly come in right away.’

Jones played at centre half and in a holding midfield role for Blackburn last term and has already been utilised at right-back this pre-season by the United boss. At 5.5 in FPL, he’d certainly be worth considering if plenty starts prove to be the case, but it’s more of a wait-and-see situation- there are plenty more guaranteed players in that price range and to punt on Jones this early would surely be an unnecessary gamble.

In the same interview, Fergie then turned his attention to fellow new boy Ashley Young. The United boss confirmed Young will mainly be used as a left winger in 2011/12, saying:

Ashley can play in more than one position. He can play wide right, left, even behind the striker, so we have options there. But, initially, we’ll start him as a wide left player.

With Young earmarked for a spot on the left, then, and the less-versatile Antonio Valencia only offering an option on the right, it seems that Nani will flit between appearances on both flanks next term.

Valencia, at 8.0, offers better value than Young and Nani at 10.0, but with the rumoured move for Wesley Sneijder also on the cards, United’s attacking midfield options could prove to be a Fantasy nightmare next season.

Our final Fergie-related matter concerns the future of Dimitar Berbatov. United were in Monaco last night for a charity football match against Marseille and, in a post-match interview with French tv, the United boss was asked if Berbatov could play at big-spending Paris St Germain next summer. His reply:

“Yes. Absolutely, no problem.”

Berbatov has fallen firmly behind Javier Hernandez in the Old Trafford pecking order and any funds from a possible move could be used in the club’s bid to acquire Sneijder from Inter, and help recoup some of the £50m already spent this summer.

Stephen Hunt has suggested Wolves are intent on playing 4-4-2 next season. Having survived the drop despite a final day defeat at Molineux last term, Hunt reckons the club will be adopting a slightly less-cautious approach in 2011/12, with a front pairing of Steven Fletcher and Kevin Doyle ready to take on Premier League defences together. Doyle has mainly featured as a lone striker under Mick McCarthy and Fletcher only grabbed his chance when the Irishman was sidelined with a knee injury in the latter part of 2010/11. With the pair relatively low-priced – Doyle is 6.0 and Fletcher 6.5- it’s certainly a situation worth monitoring.

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson is delighted with new signing Zoltan Gera. Having previously linked up at Fulham before, the Baggies boss is fully aware of the midfielder’s capabilities and has snapped the Hungarian up on a free transfer. Gera is currently regaining fitness following an ankle injury and is also banned for the first three games of the new campaign, but it’s clear Hodgson is a firm favourite of his talents and plenty starts seem likely. Gera may also share set-piece duties with Chris Brunt and his versatility may even offer a role just off the main striker in Hodgson’s 4-4-1-1 formation. Hodgson enthused yesterday:

I of course know him well and admired him in the two years we worked together at Fulham, where he was an integral part of the team that did well during those years. I think it is a massive coup for the club that we have been able to persuade him to come back to West Brom. I think it is an excellent signing and he is a player I hope will do as well in the coming seasons as he has done in the past seasons with West Brom and Fulham.

Nicely balanced side. However, I think you might regret not having any attacking City players for GW1.

You could start with Silva for GW1 and then bring in Malouda the following week for Chelsea's home game.

Buzsaky is a good alternative. QPR rotate perfectly with Swansea too.
Team looks solid although not so sure on Modric. He doesn't score enough points to warrant a 8.0m price tag. If he goes to Chelsea then that's another story....

Not much of a defence aside from Kompany. I'd trade Malouda for N'Zog and upgrade one of them aside from Hughes. Modric is a great player but won't earn you points. Yaya Toure is a better option at this price imo...

In defence, where to start XD Try swapping out Huth, and get Begovic for the Stoke cover, and bring in Hennesey or De Vries, whichever is the more guaranteed starter. Gibbs is a bit of a risk, maybe go for Sagna if you want Arsenal cover.

Midfield looks good, only thing is a lack of Captaincy choices.

Forwards also good, I'm assuming you're gonna swap Rodallega out for someone else once his fixtures drop?

Why does nobody seem to be signing Lescott over Kompany?

In just over half his game time last year, Lescott scored 1 more bonus point, 3 goals compared to Kompany's 1, assisted the same number and had the joint highest points per game of 4.7 of all defenders level with Baines and Luiz.

Surely he is worth a punt over Kompany for the extra 0.5 mil and will act as a differential in Man City's defence

Am I talking any sense or just being stupid?

Kompany = rock at the heart of City's defence. Nobody will replace him, however Lescott will possibly be replaced by TOure when he returns. The only reason Kompany was not popular before was because he was classed as a midfielder. And, as you say, Lescott is more expensive

I don't understand why Silva is at 9.5 this year, it really is overpriced.

Look at the big risers this year, including the likes of Yaya toure, they were really popular last season and their prices rose, like Toure rose from 5.5 to over 6 mil. But Silva started at 9 and plummeted, only experiencing times of stable price or rises of 0.1 when city had very favourable fixtures. I think he ended the season at 8.3 or maybe even lower. So why give him a price hike now? 8.5 would have been more suitable, maybe 9 at a push. At 8.5 he would have fitted perfectly inside my team but nooo, he has to be priced just 1 mil too high

I would say a Bolton midfielder, but their fixtures are horrendously awful... Can't you go 0.5 higher? PLenty of options at 6.5. Maybe Barton if he goes anywhere, but otherwise Hunt/Ohara

The Enrique selection is only going to happen if his move to Pool is confirmed by GW1 as i got simpson and wont double up if he stays at Newc. Cech + 5m def allows me to spend 5.5 on a final mid vs 4.5

A with ease for me,Luiz is a rotation risk, and Al Habsi might get save pts yeah but might lose them every 2 goals he concedes lol. However you could play Cech every week with Oshea and that is pretty safe to me,little need to waste a transfer swapping rotation risks and dead weight.

Sorry put this as a reply instead of a new comment....

My GK and defense are as follows:

    Given/Kenny – Moreira

Cole, Kompany, Enrique, Distin, Simpson – Liverpool and Everton rotate perfectly with home fixtures. (Simpson will be used in an emergency)

    What do you think?

Enrique at 5.0 and Distin at 5.5 are a bit expensive for rotating defenders. I'd rather have Luiz or Lescott at 6.5 and a 4.0 def than those 2.

I brought in Malouda because I didn't want three unproven midfielders. Have I just made things worse? Latest incarnation:

Al-Habsi Given (willing to consider cheaper pairing)
    Kompany Hughes Alcaraz Bramble Orr
    Silva Malouda N'Zog Taarabt Moses
    RVP Carroll Holt

I switched out Bent for Carroll. I think Bent is good for a strong start, N'Zog is good value, I don't wawant both, and I can't figure out better AVL/pool coverage for the money.

I brought in Malouda because I think he is good for a strong start, and I want 3 proven midfielders. I may transfer Malouda for VDV when TOT fixtures become favorable. I may transfer Taarabt to Sinclair when the fixtures turn in his favor, depending upon form.

I had a strong back line (Kompany, Skrtl, O'Shea) but needed to downgrade.

I'm not sold on Carroll to start. I think Bent may score higher early.

I'm not certain N'Zog will be a better bet early than Albrighton and could use the cash, but I don't think of Albighton as a sure thing for my third midfielder.

I hate bramble/brown over O'Shea because if I go to play SUN I want them to start that week.

Orr seems like the best alternative to Simpson with Newcastle turmoil...

Is there a better target for the midfield core than Silva/Malouda/N'Zog for roughly the same price?

Benayoun maybe. My tip is that he will be in Chelsea first XI, and he seems to be in cracking form at the moment. I personally also think Suarez will be ready for the start of the season, and would prefer him over Carroll.

Relying on fixtures only gets you so far, there are many top class players who can place a football into the top corner regardless of who it flies past on the way.

VDV vs the top 7 last year.

      Played 10
      Scored 6
      Assist 3

      Just food for thought.
