Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders is rolled out once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Yet again, the consistent Diego Costa leads the way in this week’s Captain Poll. The Chelsea forward has scored in all but one of his seven league appearances, with only champions Man City stopping him so far – although Palace have yet to concede at home under Neil Warnock, over 37% have placed their faith in the Spain international.

Sergio Aguero is some way back in second, with 19% opting for the City frontman. Aguero’s strike away to Villa means he’s now notched in five of his seven appearances and, perhaps crucially, he’s earned bonus points every time he has scored – Costa has achieved this on only three occasions. Visitors Spurs have a single clean sheet in five, and with Hugo Lloris a doubt, face a tough task to keep the champions at bay.

Danny Welbeck takes third spot as Arsenal prepare to entertain Hull at the Emirates. The summer signing has racked up four goals and an assist in just six appearances across all competitions for the Gunners and is expected to shrug off an ankle knock to start against a Tigers backline that has managed a single clean sheet in six. Team-mate Alexis Sanchez is also on the radar, though has been selected by just 2% of voters compared to Welbeck’s 12% show of support.

Man United pair Angel Di Maria (9%) and Radamel Falcao (2%) are in armband contention as they roll up to West Brom on Monday evening. A goal and assist in three of his last four appearances ensure the Argentine is the Red Devils’ most popular pick but Falcao has still managed to produce returns in each of his last three and looks a real differential here.

Graziano Pelle has scored and earned maximum bonus in each of his last two home appearances yet ahead of a St Mary’s meet with Sunderland has been selected by 3% of voters. Further down the pecking order, Liverpool duo Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge (providing he’s fit) seem overlooked options for a trip to basement-dwellers QPR, though Harry Redknapp’s side have only conceded three times in as many home matches and will be hoping to derail the Reds at Loftus Road.

...although Baines is also a bit tempting, but I very rarely captain a defender

It's tempting, but I don't think he'll go ballistic against Palace.

I think I might have done something silly. I played my wildcard earlier in the week and hit "confirm transfers".

I thought I could do more transfers for free using the WC, and now it's saying it's going to cost me points to do more transfers?!

If so, bit of a nightmare as I put a quick team in without much thought and now I've got a couple of potentially injured players!

Really hoping I'm wrong here somehow....?

Yes, it's wrong. Your WC should be active the entire week.

Thanks - but it's saying my 4 transfers are going to cost me -16pts?

It's active for the Gameweek (i.e 14 days over the international break), not the "week" as in 7 days, right?

        So confused....

Can you send a link to your team page? Really bizarre - but yes, it should be active for the entire GW - ie 14 days

But on Thursday the second week of a break why bother

A lot of the teams that are typically strong defensively have been anything but so far. I'm thinking Arsenal, Everton etc.

Over the course of the season they will deliver the standard 15+ clean sheets. Who's buying in ahead of the curve?

I'm thinking jagielka will be hoovering up the gaps soon.

        Valid points.

I finish in the top 10k every year and have to get the right players in early to do so. But arsenal are very unsettled aren't they. Hard to ignore chambers at 4.6 when he returns tho...kos apparently back next weekend tho, so that'll help

I think Everton defence generally will do well over the next few weeks, while Arsenal have two first-choice defenders and a second-choice keeper injured, it could be tougher for them.

My current midfield 5 is - Siggy - Cesc - ADM - Sterling - Downing, is it silly to have Downing? He's only been in the set-up couple weeks and he's returned quite good since he's been in. Man City next week, worth dumping him to Boyd/Obertan and upgrade elsewhere? Rest of my team is -

    Forster - McCarthy
    Clyne - Azpil - Naylor - Pieters - PvA
    Pelle - Costa - Welbz

Also have £1.1m ITB atm. For GW9. I've already used FT for GW8. Cheers.

Well I'm assuming that you will field all 3 strikers - therefore you will either bench 1 or 2 midfielders.

Either way Downing is more likely to be 5th choice out of your midfelders therefore no point in having unless he's a better pick than your 3rd choice forward.

        why?

Lamela has hit the post three times in the prem this season. If they went in he would be 3-3 (goals:assists). He has a nice run after city and is a HUGE differential.
Cahill is a chelsea defender who always are better defensively against better teams making him fixture proof.

I think that too, and I expect quite a few goals.
THinking about putting some money on one of these:
        Draw is at 39/10 atm
        Goalscorer: Hernandez at 100/30
        Over 3.5 goals at 31/20
