Carlos Tevez takes a break. Cesc Fabregas is fit and may feature in Arsenal’s weekend friendly. Steve Kean finally signs a striker, though may see his skipper depart for North London. Alan Pardew is determined to freeze out Joey Barton and Joe Cole’s name blinks on the QPR radar. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

The Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga drags on this morning. The midfielder has now recovered from his hamstring injury and for the past two days has trained with the Arsenal first-team ahead of Saturday evening’s friendly against Sporting Lisbon. The Gunners are reportedly preparing two first-team photographs ahead of next season- one with their skipper and one without. Fabregas is even willing to take a pay cut to ensure the move goes through but the stumbling block remains a £5m difference in each club’s valuation of the player.

Carlos Tevez is the other big name in the news this morning. City have reportedly extended their skipper’s vacation, allowing him to miss Sunday’s Community Shield clash with United. Tevez’s future remains in the balance, then, and, despite his obvious appeal in Fantasy terms, the City striker will have been crossed off many a pre-season watchlist. He now seems unlikely to begin the season in the City starting line-up when Swansea turn up at Eastlands next weekend

Chris Samba’s Blackburn future is again in doubt as the latest reports suggest Spurs have moved to the front of the queue for his services. A £6 million fee is reportedly on the table as Harry Redknapp looks to bolster his backline. Presumably the Spurs boss has Samba lined up to partner skipper Michael Dawson, with Ledley King’s knee still preventing him from making regular Premier League appearances. Should Samba arrive at White Hart Lane, it’s safe to say that Fantasy managers may look more favourably both on Samba and the Spurs back four.

Blackburn fans can at least take some consolation that their club made their first move in the transfer market yesterday, completing a deal for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie . He is set to make his debut at Kilmarnock this weekend – a full Scout Report on the Scottish starlet will follow later today.

Norwich’s Ritchie De Laet has wasted little in settling into his new surroundings, following his loan move from Man United. The defender grabbed a goal and picked up the Man of the Match award in the Canaries 1-1 draw with Real Zaragoza. At just 4.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) he’s one to definitely consider, for those Fantasy managers undecided over low-price defenders.

While Joey Barton has hinted at seeing out the final year of his contract on Tyneside, Alan Pardew has other ideas. The Newcastle boss is reportedly determined to ensure the midfielder offers no further disruption to first-team matters by forcing him to train alone until his departure. Jose Enrique has closed his twitter account amid reports the club are on the verge of banning all players from using the social media site.

Liverpool’s forgotten man Joe Cole has been offered the chance of a season-long loan deal by QPR. Cole is clearly out of the picture at Anfield and, providing Neil Warnock’s side can afford his wages, would certainly get plenty chances at Loftus Road. With a 6.0 price tag, he’s a budget-friendly FPL option, though many Fantasy managers will steer clear until the situation becomes a little clearer.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I'm pretty biased, but I'll say Holt. He's probably our main man and will be the one to score the goals. Plus Graham has only just signed for QPR (stand to be corrected), so he might not have gelled with the rest of the squad yet.

    Reasons to get Kompany
    -Nailed on starter
-Man City have one of, if not the strongest defence in the league
-with that in mind 6 million is pretty cheap
-if you add 3 points onto each clean sheet he kept last season, it would be 149 FPL points
-He was 7th overall in the EA Actim Index rankings last season.
-If he had the 7th best BP tally in FPL last season, he would have had roughly 27 bonus points over last season.
So minus the 6 bonus points FPL gave him, He would have scored 170 points last season had he been classed as a defender and the BPs were based on Actim Index stats.

    Must have imo

There's no such thing as a 'must have' at this stage.

That said, he's a player that people should definitely be looking to get if they want a defender that they can leave in week in week out with a good shout for a cleanie.

Not sure about bonus. It will be interesting to see how things pan out - but there has been speculation that the new set up will really favour goalscorers above all else.

But, um, he is using the actual EA index, where Kompany came 7th, and so will surely improve on the 6 bonus points he received last year.

This idea that the new system only favours goal-scorers/assistants overlooks the actual evidence

I think a 7.0 Goalkeeper means you either go defence heavy and play a 451 or 541 formation as you wont be able to afford a decent strikeforce or have a budget defence and a rotating midfield... its possible and I would pick hart over cech just due to fixtures

Adam? No thank you. Agger isn't a bad shout. He can be pretty good if you catch him on a good day and I still remember that 30 yard pearler he scored a few seasons back.

Downgrade Adam to Sinclair so you get someone who takes penalties. Not sure about what to do with the remaining funds. Maybe upgrade Agger if it doesn't work out.

To be honest, only Crofts is worth it and I haven't even got him. Crofts will have a steady stream of bonuses and provides a goal threat thanks to his late runs into the box. Hoolahan is only worth it if he's guaranteed to take penalties, which he isn't. Don't know a huge amount about Johnson (he's only signed for us a month or so ago), but there's better value elsewhere.

IMO, I went for Moses. Same price as Crofts and probably the focal point of the Wigan midfield now that N'Zog has gone.

    I'm thinking either:

    Rooney, rvp & holt

(swap Rooney to Torres/drogba week 2)

    Or

    Bent, rvp & Zamora

(swap Rvp to Torres/drogba week 2)

Out of those options I'd go with the first one.

You're daft if you are thinking about swapping out RVP in GW2. You'll want him straight back in GW4. Be wary of these GW2 transfer plans, they should only be provisional as there will be other pressing issues in your team.

    A. Saurez + Osman
    B. Carroll + Etherington

Started with A. But Etherington has always done well for me in the past, never really noticed Osman until he was tip'd on here. Carroll could be the better bet at the start of the season with the supply from Adam/Downing etc, and Saurez uncertain to play.

    RMT and plan;

Given Begovic (Best Rotation Choice IMO)
Jagielka Kompany Highes A Cole Samba
    Tiote Lampard Albrighton Taarbt Moses
    Bent Suarez Hoilett

    Trades below are due to hard fixtures following the GW's I trade them out;

    GW4 trade out Moses
GW5 trade out Hoilett and Samba
    GW6 trade out Jagielka
    GW7 trade out Tiote
    GW9 trade out Taarabt
    GW11 trade out Hughes
GW12 trade out Albrighton and Bent

Samba is a worry who is the next best defender behind Samba at the club??? I am thinking of trading him out if he leaves Wigan!

      - Too much money in defence.
      - Not enough money in midfield.
      - Good strategy to think when you will be wanting rid of players, but it is only a loose plan. Other pressing issues will emerge.

Overall I like it, but if you want feedback then you have to accept that it'll be critical, that said:

I'm downrating Hughes in my expectations this season, I reckon they'll concede a little bit more than last season. That said, Fulham do have decent fixtures from a CS perspective.

If you look at your opening GW you're starting an away keeper against teams who'll in all likelihood score (unless Wigan pull an opening day blunder ala last year vs Blackpool). Defensive you have Kompany and Hughes, but then 3 poor options (I can't be arsed to check how that plays out in later GWs)

Pennant is probably the third pick in the Stoke midfield - rather go for Walters at 6.0 or if you can spare the .5 go for Etherington.

Brunt has poor fixtures to start off with, there are a few other 6.0 mids you could consider (even more if you willing to dip into that 1.0 bank balance).

Finally, Balotelli is a massive risk for 9.0 - rather send the extra 1.0 to getting Bent and you can still do Suarez/VdV this way.

        guys - great feedback.

LLamaZA - totally agree re Hughes and Fulham. I dount they will be as shrewd defensively under Jol and thus Hughes will suffer.

Do you think Pennant will outscore Ethrington? Maybe just a general observation but Pennant finished the season very strongly and i think he took over corner duties. Could see how tonights game goes on that one though.

Agree re Brunt - very tough start for WBA.

I really think Mcgelish will starve Bent of any real service this season (que opening day hatty).

Will look to upgrade either the keeper / Brunt / a defender.

has anyone concidered not taking the 10m big hitters in Midfield and having 3 that fall just under the radar?..eg Cahill / Walcott / Downing. Points there for sure.

        Balloteli is marmite on here!

I don't think Given has anything to do with the nzog and bent decision...I once had Fabregas, Arshavin and Van Persie and they scored really well...you'll love it if nzog crosses and bent scores and you get 12 points for one goal...in my opinion the main risk is that Villa play badly and you have 2 of their players to get rid of...so it's a bit riskier than having players from different teams

You could swap Robison and Warnock for Given and Givet, which could allow you to upgrade Ivanovic to Cashley. You'd probably get more points this way assuming Givet starts every week.

I didnt think Givet was nailed on?

Im one of those weirdos that thinks Ivan IS NOT a rotation risk so am happy to have him.

My major worry is havign 0 Arsenal...and 2 Liverpool.

Also Wilkinson and Warnock rotate pretty nicely....

Who would you prefer? Any reasons why?

Not buying into Moses. Watson on set pieces so would rather pay the extra .5 for him. O'Hara on set pieces too. Thomas is an odd one but a personal punt.

I love this team. I won't have Wigan as it stands, but if I was going your way - that's what I'd pick! 😀

Not really... it was more their attacking play that got them promoted!

        Norwich conceded 58
        QPR conceded 32

Even Swansea had a better defensive record with 42 conceded, but they have lost their keeper now.

After spending a bit more time at it, have now got a team set for the first 3 Gameweeks, to pull the wildcard in the international break after GW3.

      Al-Habsi
Ivanovic - Dunne - Kompany (Ivanovic & Dunne differentials, plus decent goal threats)
      Malouda - Silva - O'Hara - Moses
Drogba - Bent - Suarez* (Carroll to replace if out of GW1, Dunne > Warnock for funds)

Bench is all fodder (De Vries - Orr - Simpson - Ferguson)

What do we think? Feasible to get a good healthy early lead. Also have 5 captain options!

At the back it could alternatively be:

        Given
        Cole - Alcaraz - Kompany

        for the same funds.
