Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

A four-goal blitz against Tottenham last time around has ensured Sergio Aguero is this week’s runaway leader, with almost 50% of the votes cast. Up to nine goals for the season, the Man City forward has netted in six of his eight appearances so far, and up against a West Ham side with a single shut-out all season (at home to QPR), Aguero has already risen 0.2 in price heading into the weekend deadline.

Graziano Pelle is some way back in second spot. The Southampton striker has earned just under 16% of votes cast as he prepares for the visit of Stoke – bearing in mind his last three appearances at St Mary’s have returned 13, 9 and 15 points in the FPL game, though, the Italian looks a viable option. Team-mate Dusan Tadic earns 4% of votes after serving up a goal and four assists at home to Sunderland – the playmaker has now produced 34 points in the last three in front of his own supporters.

Diego Costa remains in contention for the league leaders’ trip to Old Trafford. Only 4% are considering the Chelsea forward with the armband due to Jose Mourinho’s mind games, but if given the chance against United’s dodgy defence, he has to be considered, having netted in all but one of his seven appearances.

Raheem Sterling is an armband option for some as Liverpool prepare for a home clash with Hull. Having scored or assisted in five of his seven starts, the youngster has remained a consistent option – after moving to the lone forward role against Real Madrid in midweek, he’s persuaded 3% of Fantasy managers to hand him the captaincy. Gylfi Sigurdsson is similarly backed for Swansea’s home encounter with Leicester, though is struggling for form, having blanked in four of the last five.

Further down, Arsenal and Spurs are overlooked ahead of enticing showdowns with Sunderland and Newcastle. Danny Welbeck (3% of votes) and Alexis Sanchez (1%) face a Black Cats backline that shipped eight to Southampton last weekend, whilst Christian Eriksen (1%) and Nacer Chadli (0.8%) will be looking to take advantage of a Magpies defence that have kept out their opponents just once in the last six.

To do Moreno -> Baines, which route would you go ?

    A: Sterling -> Eriksen

    B: Siggy -> Diame / Moses

C: Fab or ADM -> Oscar / Eriksen

Hey guys, so ive done an impulse wc after a week from hell last week and need to make a lot of ground up already. Assume this is pretty standard but any feedback on this would be very handy if you got a minute 🙂

    Forster, Myhill
    Wisdom, Kaboul, Baines, Dummet, Chambers
    Tadic, Fabregas, Albrighton, Sigurdson, Hazard
    Aguero, Welbeck, Pelle

    1.1 itb

Thinking of upgrading fab til sanchez...

What would you be doing with 2.1itb in GW10? Any ideas welcome! 🙂

I'm thinking along these lines as several options for the next few weeks:
    - Siggy>Oscar/Chadli/Eriksen

    - Welbeck>Costa/Sakho

can someone explain how price drop works?
I got Costa at 10.5, and his selling value now is 10.8. His actual value is 11.1
Would the sell value stay at 10.8 until his actual value reaches 10.8, or will it drop to 10.7 when his price goes down to 11?

    1. Les Bleus
      • 14 Years

You make a 0.1 profit for every 0.2 rise if that makes sense.

    2. Kerz
      • 11 Years
      11 years, 2 months ago

You only 'get' 0.1 profit for every 0.2 increase on price (rounded down on odd increases). So re. Costa, if he drops from 11.1 to 11.0, his selling price will fall from 10.8 to 10.7 because it's rounded down. If he falls against to 10.9, his selling price will remain at 10.7.

I am in a different style of league where I own Abel H, and RVP.

Abel has 3 goals to RVP's two in about 260 minutes (3 less games) of pitch time. With the scoring system, Abel is outscoring RVP on a points per game basis - 8.72 to 7.07.

RVP has to do something against Chelsea, who's defense is much better than Liverpool's, who Abel faces this weekend.

I have started RVP every week. Is this the week I go Abel, or am I getting too cute. Unlike FPL, I can make changes leading up to each matches' kickoff, so I risk nothing by starting Abel, I can replace with RVP if Abel does not start.

Sorry for the curveball, non FPL question but I have been mulling over this decision all week.

    Cheers

I guess I'd rather start RVP but that might be heart over head...

My team going into week 9 at the moment:

    Guzan
    Clyne, Baines, Lovren
    Silva, Siggy, ADM, Chadli (V)
    Pelle (C), Costa, Welbeck

    Bench: Begovic, Williams, Larsson, Coloccini

Already used my FT for Ulloa -> Welbeck and have £1.4m in the bank.

-4 for Silva -> Sanchez a good call or just wait till next week?

Haha, I'm weighing the same transfer. I don't think I'd be inclined to do it for a hit, but I'm a pretty risk averse player.

Neither am I really, this is my first Season!

I've already done one transfer at a cost a few weeks ago and it was a horrible fail (jumped on the Ulloa bandwagon just before the wheels came off)!

As Sanchez played last night could be tired this weekend.....that's me talking myself out of it!

With one transfer earmarked for selling Costa which move do you like best for my second transfer?

    A: Silva to Sanchez
    B: Terry to Baines
    C: Save

Decided on Elliot & Chester -> Foster & Chambers for my 2 FTs.

Safe to do it now or shall I wait til tomorrow? Any of those likely to go up or down in price tonight?

Are you buying Fab at his current price or do you have him at a discount? At their current prices I'd rather have Sanchez but I could understand holding onto Cesc if you got him at 9.0.
