The international break beckons, the Fantasy Premier League wildcards will be fluttering and after today’s games, there’s little doubt where you can find the first profit-making bandwagon.

Rafael Van der Vaart’s two goals against Villa at the Lane today won the game and will surely fetch him his second maximum FPL Bonus Point haul of the season. The Dutchman has arrived in the Premier League, hit the ground running and has established himself as not only a creative force but also a direct and devastating threat on the oppositions goal.

So the Van der Vaart “transfer in” is a no brainer. Well not quite. Gareth Bale appears to have hogged the limelight around here in the last 24 hours and he suddenly becomes a consideration again when it comes to coveting his influential team-mate.

Can any Fantasy lineup afford to have two Tottenham players, let alone two of their midfield? Those Fantasy Managers who have resisted the charms of Bale or even shipped out the Welshman over the frustration of his ever-changing role, can turn to Van der Vaart without hesitation. Bale owners however have a conundrum to consider.

During a kind run of fixtures having two Spurs players would be palatable but Redknapp’s side face three away games in the next four, one of which is at Old Trafford. Their home fixture meanwhile has them facing Everton – a side who have conceded just two goals in four away games and who sealed the season-starting win today at Birmingham. That won’t be easy.

Between these four fixtures, Spurs will face a Champions League tie at Inter for undoubtedly their biggest European tie so far. The fixture falls after Gameweek 8’s trip to Fulham and before the home game with Everton. Even if we felt that Van der Vaart was a rotation risk (it doesn’t look that way), he is suspended for the San Siro visit after his red against FC Twente in midweek. That will surely mean that the Dutchman is protected from being rested for both the Fulham and Everton games. The same perhaps can’t be said for Bale, who could either be rested at Fulham, or find himself at left-back once again away from home.

Is this enough to seal the fate for the 50% Bale and see thousands make the switch to jump aboard the Van dar Vaart bandwagon? Bale’s 1 point return today and his failure to notch a goal or an assist in his last five league starts, isn’t a statistic that helps his cause.

This is the knee jerk – so in-depth thinking isn’t allowed. For now there’s no doubt that Van der Vaart has become a hugely influential figure for Redknapp’s side, who having started four out of four league games since his arrival, looks to have his role well and truly cemented. Right now that role appears to allow him license to support a lone striker and provide a constant menace to opponents.

Van der Vaart will surely play the next two matches at Fulham and against Everton. Based on showings so far, he will take free-kicks, he will notch around 10 efforts on goal, he will earn Bonus Points if Spurs can win those matches. With an international break now beckoning, he will surely rise in price at least twice between now and Gameweek 8. It’s hard to deny the Dutchman’s draw.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

But they didn't get the 15 point return which you got. Think of it as a good thing. I had a strikeforce of Drogba - Carroll - Tevez right from the start, and I'm now happy that so many people are copying it. It means I made good choices 🙂

Its time for you to remove him after getting profit on him. Look at his next 4 fixtures. He has 3 away fixtures and he has been poor in away games so far. Dempsey is far better option than him for next 4 weeks.

So it doesnt get lost on the last page.....

Not done a RMT for a while and as its fairly quiet.

    Robinson (Foster)

    Konchesky O’Shea Elmo (Foley Williamson)

    Malouda Dempsey Gerrard Nani (Etuhu)

    Drogba Tevez (c) Caroll

    —————————————–

    Considering for transfers

Dempsey —> Etherington and Gerrard —-> Fab and maybe even Caroll —-> Elmander

or changing formation and going 3-5-2 with

Etuhu —> VDV and Gerrard —> Arteta and putting Caroll on the bench.

    What do you think?

I would have done it just to save the money. He's not even a regular for the Dutch team, so the chances of him picking up an injury there are fairly low.

really no valid argument, skully, for you to wait on playing the WC if you plan to use it prior to GW8 kickoff. every day you wait you lose 100s of 1000s!

if you're saving it for later in the season, then fair enough. but the injuries will come at the end of the international break, not after it, so having played your WC you'd be in a position to switch them out, penalty-free.

I'm looking at the top 10 teams at the moment and I'm looking to design my team around theirs. I need VDV, thats for sure. So I'm going to do Alex->Elmo, then Bale->VDV. Then maybe in a few weeks, upgrade Murphy->Coleman, so I can interchange between the defenders depending on fixtures. So it will look like this:
    Hart (Carson)
O'Shea Gohouri Elmo (Foley and Coleman)
    Adam Malouda VDV Nani (Albrighton)
    Tevez Drog Berba

    Thoughts?

    Robinson Carson
    Konchesky Coleman Elmo Gohouri Perch
    Fabs Malouda Nani VdV BenArfa
    Drogba Tevez Odemwingie

Very happy with midfield and attack. Defence isnt bad with 2 wingers + konchesky.

BenArfa and Odemwingie rotate perfectly for the final attacking slot, the rest play every match. On the same reasoning I plan to get in Krul for Robinson soon.

if i bring in Krul i have 0.5 to spare that i could use. defense is overated to be honest. look at the top scoring defenders... apart from Cole the top scoring players are Elmo (OOP) and Alcaraz (plays for Wigan!)... there is always value in defence if you rotate cheap options so they play at home or play OOP defenders...

i would always rather play a cheap defender at home than an expensive defender away from home..

You're probably right, but there is value in having at least one City or Chelsea defender. Also, with 3 4.0 defenders in there, injuries can really stuff you up if one or two get injured because of a lack of options.

On the whole though, you are one to watch. That team is pretty deadly, and it wouldn't surprise me if in a few weeks you are in the top 1000. I just have to make sure you don't overtake me!

But I have a wildcard to play, so I'll try to weather the storm as best I can 🙂

I thought seeing as 1mill+ people have him, I would think he would need in excess of 300,000 transfers out in the next two weeks to see him drop 0.2, and that would be unlikely. Maybe I need TM's input on this one.

Must have Midfield in fpl atm:

          VdV---Nani---Etherington---Dempsey---Albrighton---????if any

also to get a decent Midfield in your WC, would sacrifice expensive ones aka Gerrard---Fab and Lamps to fit them all?

The only way I can see to get in VDV is to sacrifice one of the famous five. Based on injuries I would probably choose to get rid of Fabregas (or should I say not get him back in in game week 10). Worth it? The choice would basically be Fabregas and Barton OR VDV and Arteta (or Young or somebody else for up to 8.7 mill.

I'd get VdV in looking at your situation.

You still have your WC to get Fabregas back, and the chances are he'll drop before the next deadline.

I was thinking of wildcarding now to cover the international break. Hahnemann, Enrique, Konchesky, Albrighton, Barton, Gerrard (filling in for fabregas) > Krul, Boateng, Coleman, VDV, Arteta, N'zogbia. But that would mean i wouldn't be able to get Fabregas back without downgrading Drogba. What do yous reckon? I would never consider being without Fabregas if he is fully fit for the season. But that's a big IF!!

          Don't WC now.

You don't need to, and you've held back from using it this long. Get VdV in for Gerrard, and then WC to get Fabregas in when he starts firing.

At least that's what I plan on using my WC for.

Yeah. This wild card dilemma is killing me. I know my team doesn't need the major surgery. My head says that I should only use the wildcard if I need to switch 4+ players because of injury or loss of form. But the WC would give me something to do for the next two weeks!

Sounds like the common thought is that VdV no is practically indespencible and that Bale is history.

I plan to either do nothing, save the transfer and hope Bale performs, or do a swap for Bale to VdV (and Shawcross to Jara for cash).

I guess it will come down to finances again, if VdV starts climbing fast he'll be difficult to resist.

This VdV thing is nuts. He is absolutely guaranteed to play twice for Holland in the next two weeks and he has had some bad injuries in the past. Buying players just after they've had a big week is insane anyway and doubly so if they play for Tottenham.
