It’s a short, sharp Scribbles we offer this morning as the tension ramps up ahead of tomorrow’s big kick-off. Aston Villa hope to bring back on old face in Thomas Hitzlsperger, while Roy Hodgson believes in Owen Hargreaves’ fitness. Alan Pardew offers an olive branch to Joey Barton and Tony Pulis is looking for six new players as Stoke square up to Europe. Here we go, folks:

Jose Enrique is set to sign a four-year deal with Liverpool today. Kenny Dalglish’s search for a left-back looks to now be over and with one year left on his Newcastle contract, Enrique’s transfer is thought to be around the region of £6m. More importantly, as far as Fantasy managers are concerned, Enrique is priced at just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and can be expected to see plenty investment on the back of this move.

Alex McLeish has been linked with a move for Thomas Hitzlsperger. The Villa boss admitted yesterday he would need to trade players before making any further acquisitions but with the German available on a free, a return to Villa Park may not be out of the question. As Big Eck went on to say:

“Thomas’ name has been mentioned against a number of other players. If it came to a choice, we’d have to think about everything if we were able to get that choice. Maybe in midfield, in terms of experience, we are a little bit lacking.”

Roy Hodgson has offered Owen Hargreaves a contract at West Brom. The ex-Man United midfielder has seemingly proved his fitness to the Baggies boss and is now mulling over a move to the Hawthorns. Hodgson’s take on the situation is:

Look, we’ve done the test, we agree with you that the knee’s OK and you can play football. And of course if you’d like to come and play for us that would be lovely. But whether or not our offer is going to be interesting to him, that’s what I don’t know.

Stoke are in the market for six new signings, according to Tony Pulis . Speaking this morning, the Potters boss admitted he was looking to strengthen the club’s options up front before the end of August. With a bid in for Peter Crouch as well as Spurs team mate Wilson Palacios, it looks like being a busy three weeks ahead on the transfer front.

Both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri won’t feature tomorrow for Arsenal. The duo were left out of Arsenal’s squad for the trip to Newcastle by Arsene Wenger and their respective exits from the Emirates are edging closer by the day.

It looks like Joey Barton may still have a part to play at Newcastle, after all. Only a week or so ago, there seemed no way back for the midfielder after the twitter debacle that saw him criticise the club, but Alan Pardew is willing to offer him a chance if Barton can prove he’s willing to give his all:

Joey will determine whether he stays. I’ve told Joey that he won’t play for me and I won’t include him unless I think he’s pulling for us. If Joey turns around to me and says that’s what he’s going to do, then he will. He’s in the process of weighing up what he needs to do.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Yaya was playing more defensively in the 1st half of the Charity Shield, when Balotelli and Dzeko were playing and he was part of a central midfield 2. When Barry came on for Balotelli, Yaya was playing in a central midfield 3 got forward a lot more.

Well guys, my first and only RMT - Anyway I guess I won´t change anything.

Given / Schwarzer rotating as needed

    Huth
    Lescott
    Hangeland

    Young
    Moses
    Adam
    Silva

    Holt
    Gervinho
    Carroll

    Vukcik, Naughton, Orr

Now, let me explain my approach.

I believe that Livepool will start well against Sunderland. Carroll will be my captain. Even though Adam is going to play a bit behing he will be doing free kicks and I am sure he will get a couple of assists.

Young over Nani because everybody went for Nani.

Gervinho over RVP because Gervinho is cheaper and I will take the risk.

I don´t trust Chelsea btw. Will wait for GW2 (when I will bring Malouda for Adam and a cheap defender for Huth - which will be probably Rangel from Swansea).

I know it´s risky, but I hope to make a difference taking this approach or maybe crash and burn haha 🙂

    Good luck for everyone!

Personally went for Young, because hes on free kicks now, and he drew most fouls last season. With the new system,a scored free kick, gives an assist to the player who drew the foul. And Valencia is not fit, so he might be a good differential with Nani being the popular choice.

      AN ODE TO OWEN HARGREAVES

Owen Hargreaves he trains real hard:
It’s just that – well, his knees are scarred …

Ignore the knees and listen to the hype -

C’mon now, get his agent on Skype!
      The Parker deal is dead,

And Clattermole’s on red -
So let your fingers do the walking,

And get his agent talking …
      Now, Owen’s weekly pay -

      Well, what shall we say?
      For every ninety minutes run,

      Thats 50k we’ve done ...
For your juniors with wet ears,

All trembly with their fears …
      Can learn from his experience,

While your gates gain in pounds and pence!
Don’t bore me with manager’s timidity,

Lift your team out of mediocrity …
Remember all the kits you’ll sell,

AND GIVE HIS AGENT A QUICK BELL!!!

      with thanks to O Fenomeno ... 😀

Against Stoke, surely Drogba is the better option to Torres, what with him being big and strong, and can take a bit more of a kick than Torres. And plus the fact Drogba is usually immense on the first day of the season. (Hat-Trick last season, two goals the season before). OK they were against West Brom and Hull, but still, its Stoke this season.

Why go with Consensus. Nzogbia is boring, everyone has him. RVP liable to last at most two weeks. Campbell is a liability.

Whereas Silva is reliable, Bent has good fixtures and form, Carrol should be epic. And well Zamora isnt that bad.

I am tempted to place Dzeko in my forward line instead of Carroll.

Is Carroll a must have over Dzeko?

I know Dzeko is possibly going to lose his spot to Aguero or even Tevez (if he stays) but surely he is more attractive for Game week 1 than Carroll???

I am thinking about playing Dzeko for game week one at least and them possibly purchasing Carroll as a replacement.

    Thoughts?

    Given | Ruddy

    A Cole | Kompany | Orr (Baines, 4.0defender)

Moses | Taarabt | Sessegnon | Silva (Sinclair)

    Carroll | Zamora | Bent

1.0 in bank for transfers when chelsea situation becomes clearer in gw2, probably do Silva -> Malouda.

What do you think? Midfields a bit weak i know

I don't know if you really need Baines Kompany and Cole, could downgrade one to a defender that rotates well with the other two 4.0-5.0s and upgrade the midfield

      4. AJ-good fixtures
      5. Brown, more likely to play, i've chosen him myself ahead of titus

Thanks. I agree with all of those except Carroll vs Bent. I think Bent has better fixtures and Suarez will steal Carroll's points. Carroll has a better GW1 though.

Also Taraabt is tempting just because of GW1 fixture.

Answer: There is no correct answer to any of these questions. They are all 50/50 and it's just down to luck which way you jump.

Cheers. Not sure about DJ though - new signing in a newly promoted team, too much of a risk for me.
