After taking a look at those teams with Strong fixtures to follow over the next four-to-six Gameweeks, we now assess those with tougher upcoming schedules. North east pair Sunderland and Newcastle face some testing times, whilst bottom two Burnley and Leicester also have little reason for festive cheer.

Newcastle

“frisking

The Magpies proved their mettle by putting an end to Chelsea’s unbeaten run last Saturday, but must now navigate a horrendous next six if they are to further their cause. Alan Pardew’s men face a tricky encounter with Everton at St James’ Park, as well as three of the toughest away trips around as they make their way to Arsenal, United and Chelsea.

With injury and suspension hitting hard, the Magpies are likely to struggle to rediscover the defensive resilience shown between Gameweeks 8-12 anytime soon, meaning that Daryl Janmaat will need to rely on his attacking raids down the right to earn his owners further returns. Further forward, those eyeing up striker Papiss Cisse after his weekend brace are advised to hold off for now whilst his minutes, and the schedule, look uncertain.

Southampton

“frisking

The Saints are struggling under the strain of expectation after their early season form, and the load could yet increase across the Christmas period. A trip to Burnley is next on the agenda and will at least afford them some respite, but beyond that things still looks unmistakably bleak – Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal make their way to St Mary’s in their next three home encounters, with a visit to Old Trafford lying in wait beyond that.

Without a clean sheet in their last four, owners of Ryan Bertrand and Nathaniel Clyne will have been weighing up an exit route, and that strategy is unlikely to change bearing in mind their imminent schedule. Graziano Pelle, meanwhile, found his scoring boots for the first time in seven appearances against United on Monday, but that return to form could be quickly curtailed, and the Italian will still be hard-tasked to reclaim the plethora of owners he has lost over recent weeks.

Stoke

“frisking

Saturday’s triumphant win over Arsenal brought a three-match losing streak to a close for the Potters, and a trip to Crystal Palace this weekend will offer them a chance to build momentum. That is sure to come in handy, however, as the fixtures then take a severe turn for the worse for Mark Hughes’ side, who meet Chelsea and Everton in their next two and also face consecutive match-ups with United and Arsenal in Gameweeks 20 and 21.

It would be fair to say that Bojan has finally found his feet at the Brittania, and the former Barcelona starlet – alongside fellow striker Peter Crouch – turned in a great advertisement for their budget forward services against the Gunners. However, both are now sure to be tested against some of the league’s tightest defences in the coming weeks, whilst the chances of the Potters’ own rearguard managing their first shutout since Gameweek 6 looks doubtful. Jon Walters’ recent renaissance – with three goals in four – may struggle to continue over that spell.

Also Be Wary Of…

Arsenal
The Gunners may have underlined their potential in last night’s mauling of Galatasaray, but managers should be cautious before jumping on board without a look at their next five fixtures, which contain three tricky away encounters at Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton. Owners of the suspended Calum Chambers will be even more tempted by the idea of getting rid of the young defender as Mathieu Debuchy returns to action, whilst the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck will have to be at their best for the Gunners to prosper over the festive spell.

Burnley
A 2-0 loss to QPR will have come as a bitter blow to Sean Dyche’s men, who had finally strung together a series of results prior to Saturday’s bottom of the table scrap. A potentially spirit-wrecking next four now awaits the Clarets, who visit Spurs and Man City on either side of home clashes with Southampton and Liverpool. With Christmas rotation on the cards, owners of George Boyd may be forced to call upon his services across those fixtures, though he is likely to struggle to replicate his timely Gameweek 14 strike. Up top, Danny Ings has fetched returns in three of his last four outings but his worth as a budget asset looks set for a stiff test.

Leicester
The Foxes are without a win since Gameweek 5, and their chances of turning that dire form around look slim over the upcoming schedule. Nigel Pearson’s side face a trip to West Ham sandwiched in between two home meetings with Man City and Spurs in their next three, and whilst Leonardo Ulloa has showed glimpses of his early season with a goal and two assists in his last three, the striker – who is expected to recover from a calf knock – will have his work cut out to maintain that form in the lead up to Christmas.

No way I would consider losing Caulker if I owned him. Especially not for a hit when you already have Azpil and Hutton to play this weekend in addition to whoever you get for Chambers.

I'd opt for neither. I would look at maybe Naylor or Cresswell.....or Koscielny, who I think is the man I am going to bring in for Chambers myself just waiting Wenger's presser to pass him fit as I anticipate him to.

dzeko is tempting but heard he wasn't that great tonight? bony's form/fixtures are appealing too but benteke playing with nothing around him so rightly put off him.. just fearing my lack of ars attack

I don't think Dzeko was anything special. Jovetic was very lively in his few minutes though.. enough to worry me if I was a Dzeko owner

Had to be Costa. Saves me having to worry about his insane ownership % and also buys time to observe the other striker options ahead of christmas

already have ivan and haz (easy capt this week for me).. JM's words about managing costa's game time over this month would worry me, along with his drastic dip in output. but the ownership part is the catch 🙁

What words? All i've seen is Mourinho saying that Costa needs MORE gametime to regain his match sharpness after resting so much due to the international break injury.. he also said that Costa got "his rest" when he was suspended...

i don't have a link but in no uncertain terms he said about 2 weeks ago that he would have to watch his dodgy hamstring/s and groin closely. add to that the form of drog and remy, makes costa a no go for me especially with 2 chels already

Yeah fair enough. I was really hesitant but I couldn't choose between all the other options and only need a 2 gw punt before getting someone like Benteke for the christmas fixtures, and he felt like the safest choice given that he has Hull stoke next and is owned by around 80% of the top10k... feels like i have nothing to lose by owning him, but everything to lose by not buying him!

Here is a brief KPI analysis of the Yaya-Hazard-Siggy-Sanchez-Downing midfield (which is what myself and many others currently have) 🙂

Comparing GW11-15 with GW8-11 (i.e. Downing, Siggy, Sanchez, Yaya, Hazard). This is what stands out:

    - Downing is slightly down, but thats because he played one less game (due to an injury).
    - Siggy has improved considerably (likely due to having QPR CPL in succession).
    - Yaya is shooting more but not getting in the box or getting as many clear-cut chances as before. Likely to change with better fixtures though, plus he's now on penalties.
    - Hazard has been steadily improving all season it seems, and now has monsterous stats in the last 4 compared to before. Captain material for sure.
    - Sanchez has been decreasing his numbers quite considerably recently. However, that's to be expected given that he played harder games in the last 4 compared to before (MUN wba SOT sto, compared to HUL sun BUR swa). Note that his averages are up compared to GW's1-7 at least.

Looking closer at Sanchez in particular, below are the games he's scored points in versus those he blanked in. Looks like a proper flat-track bully!

    Scored points in: CPL 5, lei 10, MCI 6, HUL 13, sun 16, BUR 16, swa 9, SOT 9, sto 5
    Blanks: eve 1, avl 0, TOT 1, che 2, MUN 2, wba 3

With this in mind I will give Sanchez the next 3 fixtures (NEW liv QPR) to turn this downward trend around, but if he doesn't perform he'll be out on thin ice ahead of 4 tough fixtures against whm sot STO mci.

    Anyone have anything to add/comment?

Nah, I just know that Yaya has improved recently. Whether or not that has to do with Silva being out is debatable.. but regardless of that, he still has penalties, FK's, and should play closer to the box now that the team can't only rely on Aguero anymore

With Kolarov back, he might take some FK's off Yaya.

I don't see it being that important. Yaya doesn't take FK's that are on the right side (for left footers) anyways. Kolarov only plays sporadically anyways

Yaya is the most sensible City attacker to own right now. He's hit a bit of form, rested midweek and is on penalties. With Aguero out I'm sure he'll have the liberty to go on more runs. Last season Yaya Toure scored less with Silva in the team but he still had a fantastic record. Until I know which City player (Nasri, Silva, Dzeko, etc.) is the best to get I'm sticking with Toure.

My only comment is yaya over priced and only the fact that people are all cashed up with aguero money to burn is why he getting any kind of look in. It's like cashed up bogans* spending over the odds on crap designer gear after winning on the pokies**.

There you go owners I couldn't have set that up any better for yaya to troll me on the weekend.

Not many gameweeks until the wildcard. Many people have cash to burn with bargains like Austin, Sakho, Sigurdsson and Downing emerging.

Thats not true for everyone. Doosra (the stats guru) has had Yaya for 3 GW's, and i got him 2gw's ago... i.e. its hardly just because of the injury to aguero for some people... though admittedly alot of casuals will do it because of aguero.

I do think he's worth it though based on his recent stats, especially so now that he's on penalties

But when he is not on penalties he is over priced imo. And now since Kun is out and he got the penalties and more responsibility he is right city pick atm.

Probably Eriksen for the next 3 fixtures. Oscar has great stats too, and Silva has fixtures.

My x'fers this week and the reasons why. No hit.

    Aguero > Dzeko.

A bit punty, but with City's fixtures a worthwhile risk. Also being cheaper than Lukaku and Benteke the spare money gives me route into a City defender the following week.

    Siggy > Yaya.

Siggy doesn't produce the points in away fixtures and his points for the recent plum home matches were IMO disappointing. His 50% ownership puts me off. As mentioned before, Yaya's 4 yellows and Silva's return may be negatives but I hope him being on free-kicks and pens outweigh the negatives.

I can see why you'd sell Siggy, though I think the best approach is to rotate him and Downing to avoid away games. It also covers for when players get rotated over the busy fixtures soon.

        You don't understand. 😐

Rick used to prefer Tadic over Hazard few weeks ago. He thought they will score similar (because they had similar stats) so backed up Tadic as he was £2m cheaper. He didn't believe me when I told this same thing Hazard is a class above Tadic. 😐

        2. rickardinho
          • 11 Years
          11 years, 11 days ago

When I made those statements, Tadic still had good fixtures (LEI avl iirc), as well as being miles ahead of anyone else in chances created. He was also more than 2.5m cheaper than Hazard - who had tougher fixtures and didn't have the stats (over the course of the season) to convince me to get him. Consider also that I had Fabregas at the time, and Oscars stats were very close to Hazards and HE was 2m cheaper than Hazard.

However, I did also provide some analysis (in a feudy discussion with Willis) that showed that Hazard's stats in his last 4 games (at the time) had improved somewhat. Hence why hazard has been in my team now for 3gw's (I WC'ed to get him in for Tadic in fact).

His current stats are lightyears ahead of any other midfielder though (50% higher than sanchez in 2nd place in many KPI's in the last 4 gw's for example)

    A) Play Hutton (wba) - Derby so decent chance of conceding/YC/RC

    B) Chambers -> Zab (-4)

If Zab was assured a start this weekend I'd definitely do B, not sure if he will though having played away in Rome today
