Our weekly members article focussing on the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again tonight. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Man City’s home encounter with Palace has persuaded over 21% to back Yaya Toure with the weekend captaincy. The Ivorian has notched three times in his last five, and with Sergio Aguero injured, has dead-ball duties to fall back on – indeed, he’s scored and earned maximum bonus in each of his previous two at the Etihad.

Robin van Persie’s ascent up the Fantasy standings earns him second spot. It’s four goals and two assists for the United forward over the last four Gameweeks, and with three sets of double figures accrued in recent outings, over 13% have opted for the Dutchman who rolls up to Villa Park with his confidence high.

Charlie Austin’s home form has persuaded over 10% of voters to back the QPR top scorer. So far this term, he’s averaged 6.5 points per appearances in front of his own fans – with five goals and two assists in his last four at Loftus Road, Austin – who has also scored against the likes of Chelsea and City in recent matches – faces a Baggies backline that has been breached only seven times on their travels.

With 7% of the votes so far, Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are also very much in contention for Monday evening’s trip to Stoke. Certainly, both will need to step up their away day displays – Hazard has just two assists on his travels all season, whilst Costa has netted in just one of his last four road trips. Bearing in mind that Mark Hughes’ side have just one clean sheet in 13 Gameweeks, though, the Blues’ main men will be optimistic of prevailing at the Britannia.

Tottenham’s home encounter with strugglers Burnley has earned Christian Eriksen plenty of new backers. The Dane has racked up three sets of double-figures in five and has played a part in five of his side’s last six goals – as a result, he earns 6% of the votes cast so far.

Judging by the Poll, there are a number of candidates who could prove to be real differential options this Gameweek. West Ham trio Stewart Downing (3%), Diafra Sakho (2%) and Andy Carroll (1%) play host to Leicester, whilst Wilfried Bony’s eight goals in ten has convinced just 4% to offer him the armband as Swansea head to struggling Hull.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Any reason not to do Siggy to Silva for free?

No City cover at the moment. Might even captain Silva if I get him.

I have so much in the bank that I can even do Marney to Silva for free. Will need to bench one of Siggy, Downing or Austin every week though.

With potential rotation this month, you think having a strong 8th attacker is a better option?

After careful calculation I've found out that I will be busy on Saturday eating sheep heads and drinking beer and hangover on Sunday, so therefor I will captain Sterling so I can watch my captain.. Not any standout captaincy-options in my team so will go for a punt this week.. good to go?

    Panti
    Terry Azpi Cresswell
    Sterling(C) Yaya(VC) Sánchez Hazard Downing
    Austin Bony

    Subs: Krul Giroud Wisdom Dummett

Really keen on getting Silva this week. Who should he replace in my team?

    A) Siggy to Silva - Leaves me more than 2 million in the bank to upgrade defense

    B) Marney to Silva - Leaves me nothing in the bank. Will need to bench one of Austin, Siggy or Downing every week. Will hopefully cover for rotation this month.

      No way.

Downing in good form in a top 5 team.

Sterling in poor form and in a top 10 team - and more expensive.

WHU also have good strikers at the moment to score from Downings service.

Sterling has not played well in the PL recently.

Downing plays Chelsea and Arsenal after this week.

          Clyne's schedule gets impossible.

Sterling plays Burnley Swansea and Leicester.

also have Arsenal and Swansea in next 3 and wouldn't be surprised to see Burnley and Sunderland frustrate them

Punt on Sunderland player ? They doble up on Newcastle last season and Newcastle is not in great form at the moment (conceded 8 goals in last two matches )

Was thinking the same like it more when he try to dribble his way past two or three defenders and fall to ground for winning penalty last time around.

I am really struggling who to captain this week, I do have Costa and Fabregas but I feel Chelsea will struggle, my only other options are Mata, Nasri, Lukaku and Clichy?

    Help!

Ah good! Atleast everyone in my squad plays now! Squad depth key at this time of year!

Last week my defense gave me a grand total of 0 points! Azpi, Caulker, Duff didn't play. Chester and Naylor both got 0 points!

Just a copy paste on what seems like a decision some are mulling over in Costa v RVP:

We know Chelsea's current level and we know that Costa provides at that level. What if they dip in form?

We know United's current (low) level and we know that (recently) RVP is providing at that level. What if they turn up now that injuries are dissipating and players are returning to the fold?

A lot of questions and could go either way. Costa is definitely safe for regular points but are you happy with the points per million lately? RVP is risky and we (United) have been poor. It's a gut thing I think (also like to genuinely root for an FPL player now and again 😉 )

better to have a 343 and play all your players every week and have a bench that will always play 90 and get you at least 2 points
