In under three weeks time, the biggest tournament in cricket will kick off in New Zealand and Australia. That’s right, it’s the World Cup. This tournament is held once every four years, with 14 competing nations divided into two groups of seven. Each country will play every other team in their group once, with the top four from the two groups progressing to the quarter-finals, and subsequently the semi-finals and final. New Zealand will kick off the World Cup against Sri Lanka in Christchurch on the 14th February, with the final set to take place on the 29th March in Melbourne, Australia.

Cricket and Fantasy sports fans in general can register for the World Cup Fantasy Cricket game here. Upon doing so, you’ll be sent a verification email which you must click on to complete registration and create your team.

Below is a list of the rules, including how scoring and transfers work, and at the end, you can find the code to join the FFScout league for the Fantasy Cricket World Cup game.

THE RULES

SELECTING AN XI:

For Tournament Mode and Match Mode, you have 1 million Credits to build a squad of 11 players. Each player has been assigned roles (batsman, all-rounder, wicket keeper, bowler), and a price (ranging from 60,000 Credits to 110,000 Credits). Players are priced based on their overall ODI record, experience and form. Care has been taken to provide a wide range of prices for each team, so that users can create valid squads for each match.

    • Squad Balance:
    • 4 or 5 batsmen.
    • At least 1 all rounder.
    • Exactly 1 wicket keeper (you can pick variable role wicket keepers as batsmen)
    • At least 2 bowlers.
  • Team Spread: Not more than 6 players from any one ICC Cricket World Cup team.

Once you have selected a squad, you can pick any one player from your XI to be the Power Player. Your Power Player earns you double points, so he can make a big difference to your score. Your XI will start earning points from the next match.

Remember, for Match Mode, you need to select a new XI for each match. You have to select your squad, and choose your Power Player before the first ball of a match is bowled. Winners will be declared for each match based on the points scored.

EARNING POINTS:

Players who are in your Fantasy XI earn points based on their actual performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup matches. The points are calculated as follows.

Example:  A batsman who scores 77 runs off 52 balls with three sixes and five fours will receive:
Base: 77 + Strike Rate: 2*(77-52) + Milestone: 25 (for reaching 75) + Impact: (9 + 5) points (for three sixes and five fours). His total batting points will therefore be 77 + 50 + 25 + 14 = 166 points.

  • Batting Points:
  • Base: 1 point per run.
  • Strike Rate: Number of runs – Number of balls faced. Doubled if positive, halved if negative.
  • Milestone Bonus: 10 points for 50, 15 more points for reaching 75, 20 more points for reaching 100, and so on.
  • Impact: Three points per six. One point per four and minus five for getting out for a duck.

Example:  A bowler with figures of 3.2 overs, one maiden, 18 runs and two wickets will earn:
Base: 60 points (30 points per wicket) + Economy Rate: (20 balls – 18) = two points. Milestone: 10 (for two wickets). Impact: 15 points for the maiden. His total bowling points will therefore be 60 + 2 + 10 + 15 = 87 points.

  • Bowling Points:
  • Base: 30 points per wicket.
  • Economy Rate: (Balls Bowled) – (Runs Conceded).
  • Milestone: 10 points for taking two wickets, 15 more points for a third wicket, 20 more points for a fourth wicket, and so on.
  • Impact: 15 points for a maiden over.
  • Fielding Points:
  • 15 points for a catch.
  • 20 points for a stumping.
  • 15 points for a run-out (to each player involved in the run-out).
  • 20 points for a direct hit.
  • Bonus Points
  • 50 points for being declared the official Man of the Match.
  • In Stages 1 & 2 (League Matches), 10 points to each player in the winning XI.
  • In Stage 3 (Quarter Finals), 15 points to each player in the winning XI.
  • In Stage 4 (Semi Finals and the Final), 20 points to each player in the winning XI.

NOTE:
a) All the above points get doubled for your Power Player.
b) Points earned by a player do not depend on his role(s).
c) Scoring rules remain the same across both game modes.

MAKING SUBSTITUTIONS:

During the course of the tournament, you can constantly make changes to your Tournament Mode squad to make sure that you always have a few players in every match.

Any substitutions you make will come into effect in the next match. Effectively, the squad you have at the start of each ICC Cricket World Cup match is the one that will earn points for that match.

  • Before Match 1, you can make as many changes as you want.
  • Between Match 1 and Match 21 (Stage 1), you are allowed to make 42 substitutions.
  • After Stage 1 ends, you can make unlimited subs to your squad.
  • Between Match 22 and Match 42 (Stage 2), you are allowed to make 42 substitutions.
  • After Stage 2 ends, you can make unlimited subs to your squad.
  • Between Quarter Final 1 and Quarter Final 4 (Stage 3), you are allowed to make 18 substitutions.
  • After Stage 3 ends, you can again make unlimited subs to your squad.
  • Between Semi Final 1 and the Final (Stage 4), you can make 10 substitutions.

NOTE: Transitions from unlimited subs to limited subs, and vice versa, happen when the first ball of a match is bowled.

Example: When the first ball of Match 1 is bowled, you move from unlimited subs to 42 subs. Similarly, you move to unlimited subs as soon as the first ball of Match 21 is bowled.

You can change your Power Player (from within your squad) as often as you want. Whoever you have as your Power Player at the start of a match, will score double points for that match. So, it makes sense to change your Power Player before every match.

STEALTH MODE

Every hotly contested league has a few crucial matches, when you’re making critical substitutions and trying to earn as many points as possible. In such cases, hiding your squad changes from opponents adds a massive strategic advantage.

Stealth Mode is a feature that lets you do exactly that. You can activate Stealth Mode in the Confirm Substitutions pane in the Change Squad page.

Once activated, other users will not be able to see your current squad. Instead, when they visit your page, they will see the squad and updated time for the previous match. There will be no indication that you are in Stealth Mode, it will simply look like you’ve made no changes since the previous match.

If you are in Stealth Mode, you can make any number of changes and none of them will be visible. Your new squad is revealed only after the next lock-in.

You can activate Stealth Mode for any five matches of your choice, from Match 2 onwards.

Scheduled Substitutions

There may be days on which you are unable to make substitutions because you may be travelling, stuck in a meeting or stranded on a desert island. In such situations, scheduling your substitutions beforehand is a big relief.

The Scheduled Substitutions feature lets you schedule changes one match in advance, by clicking on the “Schedule Substitutions” link on your home page. You can also review or cancel scheduled subs from your homepage.

You can only schedule subs for the match after the next one. So if the next match is Match 5, you can schedule squad changes for Match 6.

All Scheduled Substitutions for a match will be automatically performed after the lock-in of the previous match.

Warning: If you have subs scheduled for a match, you cannot make changes to your squad unless you cancel those scheduled subs.

You can also choose to activate Stealth Mode along with your Scheduled Substitutions.

The Scheduled Substitutions feature can be used any number of times.

In Match Mode, you choose a new squad for each match. You can make unlimited changes to this squad and the Power Player till the first ball of the match is bowled.

FURTHER INFORMATION

The best resource to aid you in your preparations is the ESPN Cricinfo website, which can be found by clicking here. On this site, you’ll be able to find the latest news about each team, and keep up to date with any injuries to players, as well as reading previews for each match. You’ll also find statistics to help you pick players, by clicking on a squad’s profile, thus being able to see such things as the number of wickets a bowler has taken in ODIs or how prolific the batsman that you wish to select is for their country.

Here  is also a handy link with all the fixtures listed to help you plan your original squad and potential transfers.

The code to join the FFScout league is: 3060, and you can click on join league via the homepage link  once you’ve registered your team.

Anyone else have the bright idea of keep Mcullum as their power player ? On the hope of the Scots scoring 200+ and Mcullum blasting 150 of them to win by 10 wickets ?

it's true, Afghanistan are not a complete minnow like Bermuda for example in the past, they're a decent side. However Bangladesh have some very good players, including Shakib who is one of the best in the world in this format.

The only worry is that they do have a habit of throwing in some terrible performances from time to time

morning all, hope everyone had a cracker last night. whats everyone doing bangladash tomorrow. i have done some research... obviously i am bring s al hasan...
but here are the other players i believe could be in the points.

Mushfiqur Rahim – wicketkeeper/batsman – price 90k. Bangladesh’s best batsman in 2014, Mushfiqur Has scored heavily and has often looked like the only batsman capable of getting his team out of a sticky situation. He will be without the pressure of captaincy having been recently replaced by Mashrafe Mortaza.

Tamim Iqbal – batsman – price 85k. Tamim will shoulder the responsibility of opening the batting and giving the team a flying start. Tends to flit in and out of form, but has often bounced back from poor form and will be hungry to shine on the big stage.

mashrafe mortaza is obvious pick, however i like Tajiul Islam – bowler – price 60k. Fancy a gamble? Need a cheap option? Check young Tajiul out. Only made his ODI debut in December, the 22 year old left arm spinner took a hat-trick vs Zimbabwe and ended up with 4-11.

      afghans...

to be honest no one really shines at me, but here is the best:

nabi captain – all-rounder – price 90k. Not to be confused with Nani, but will probably prove as useless as the Portuguese winger. Has led the side since 2013. The all-rounder is capable of stabilising the innings after an early collapse or launching a late assault from the middle order. He can also contribute an economical spell of off spin. Nabi was Afghanistan’s highest scorer and leading wicket-taker in World Cup qualifying.

hameed hassan has done well, got great stats and has done it against the international sides, but it was scotland...- During Afghanistan's tour of Scotland in August 2010, Hassan took his maiden five wicket haul in first-class cricket during the Intercontinental Cup match. In Scotland's first innings he took 6/50 and in their second innings he took 5/114, which also gave him his maiden ten wicket haul in a match.[7] Afghanistan went on to record a 229 run win.

be interesting to get all your opinions, i hope thats helpful.

thanks. ye thats probably sensible, i was just just going to play it save and go al s hasan, but also tempted by rahim and tajul islam looks class. i think banga should win pretty easily, however they do have aus after so dont get too many players... And i would only consider from afghans as i have said above hassan and nabi... maybe worth one afghan if they pull an upset off... i would of said double up on bangla, but we saw what happened with west indies and ireland... still feeling bitter after not going for stirling...

Yeah it's tricky. I'm gonna run out of transfers at this rate, doing too much. This and tomorrow's game are lotteries as it's hard to predict who'll do well, so your transfers can feel like a waste, but it's probably wise to get one to captain atleast in each game. I've got about 5 NZ right now and think im gonna keep them all and rotate the other spots if possible. Would sell Boult over Southeee i think

haha ye i know its easy to go trigger happy, ye true, ye always captaining one, just being cautious of using all my transfers. really, i would personally get rid of one as after eng game they dont play for 8 days and eng will be closer then people think in my opinion. ye was thinking boult, but then southee gives you more to spend, tempted by williamson as he hasnt been doing as well as i expected... but will hopefully improve...

I'd be a little cautious of Tajiul Islam (if like me you won't stay up for the teamsheets). The tracks in Aus & NZ won't spin as much as in Bang, and they already have some good spin options.

Those getting Shakib, are you keeping him for the Australia game in a few days, or shipping for Zimbabwe players?

Only asking because I have 9 players than play soon enough(5 NZ, 3 AUS, 1 ENG) and could do with rotating the remaining 2 slots for the ZIM/UAE game before shipping NZ players after the ENG game.

spent the morning looking at who shines.
ashraf, nabi and ahmadi look the best. will probably bring nabi in... whats everyone else thinking?

Quite a dilemma this. If I make one more transfer it means 2 more I'll do for the zim game as well. To hold on or gamble? Is this a chance to be smart and save or get some points that not everyone might?

Games like this(and Zimbabwe) are quite unpredictable I feel, could go magnificently or horribly wrong.
I'm saving the transfers for when the big sides play the minnows(AUS/BAN, SL/AFG, ENG/SCO), rather than when they play one another.

Would you be getting rid of Aussies at this stage?

I've got 35 changes so was thinking of removing an Aussie or NZ to get one more today and tomorrow.

Not sure how you've managed to keep Aussies in till now but all depends on the make--up of the rest of your squad.

No logic in getting rid of Kiwi's before their next game.

Next 2 games are hard to predict the best scoring players (anyone of Bangladesh's top 7 could make a good score or fail for example) so I wouldn't want more than a couple in each game.

Warner, S.Smith & Starc from Oz.
                    Roach & D.Smith from WI.

I'd probably keep Starc, though that's dependent on if you're wanting Ban/Zim bowlers and if you'll still have the min. 4 batters if you get rid of Smith/Warner.

WI's will give you a lot more games than Aussies right now.

Yeah that's the problem. I'd have to get Batsmen in if I keep Starc and Roach along with Southee & Boult.

Tempted to remove Roach instead of Warner/S.Smith as a result.

The classification is a bit annoying, especially as the allrounder/batsman seem a bit random.

Like how Maxwell can be played just as a batsman but Mathews can't be.

Think maxwells fair. Mathews bowled a lot prior to the NZ series and maxwell hardly used as a bowler until the tri series when the game was already up

Usually not more than 2-3 overs. As I said part timer which is why he has a variable role

He's bowled 200 overs in 36 bowling innings which is about the same rate/slightly lower than Mathews.

I guess it doesn't really matter. I'd totally forgot about the 4 batter rule until I tried to schedule a Zimbabwe bowler in for Mahmudullah. Just gonna go with Taylor instead.

35 atm, probably using 2 today, 2 tomorrow, won't need any for NZ/ENG. Leaving me with 31 transfers for 12 games. (Probs go hard on SL/WI players looking at the fixtures)

Can probably afford to go a bit more aggressive on the transfer now after a conservative start.

Mortaza or Mahmudullah? Already have Shakib (and no Afghan players)

Mortaza out of the two I'd say.

Due to Squad Balance, I don't think I can get Shakib in unless I get rid off one or more of:

Gayle, Moeen, Corey, Afridi, Finn, Boult, J.Taylor

Is it worth just getting Mortaza > Jerome Taylor and saving Gayle and Afridi for the Pak v WI game?

Could do Afridi + Taylor --> Shakib + Mortaza but I think Afridi will pick up wickets and score late runs against poor WI bowling.

Or shall I just ditch Afridi now and get Ahmed Shehzad for the PAK WI game?

Afridi will surely get wickets against that Windies batting line up, WI bowling though poor has enough pace to trouble Shehzad. So not sure that would work out well

Rather happy so far that i saved my transfer and got in only Shakib. Mahmudullah Tamim did average so far. Lets see what Mortaza does.

Whats the call for the Zim/UAE match?

Masakzada the obvious option? Who else?

Sean Williams - All rounder good batsman who bowls 5-6 overs every game
Brendon Taylor - Most experienced batsmen and keeper too. Decent form.
Panyangara - Opening bowler (We've seen with the Bangladeshi game, these weak batsmen are there for the taking. 2 wickets can be expected minimum when it comes to UAE)
Chibhabha - Opening batsmen. The Tamin iqbal of ZIM

        What are you'll thinking?

        Masakzada. Got to be.

Or Taylor for some catches points too.

What would you do with this?

        Umar Akmal
        Kane Williamson
        Gayle
        Samuels
        McCullum
        Shakib
        Corey Anderson
        Russel
        Finn
        Boult
        Mohammad Irfan

I will want one Zim guy atleast. To get rid of Shakib or someone else? Problem with getting rid of the Windies is they bloody have a lot of fixtures..

The way I go about it is I keep based on fixtures so to minimize transfers used. So work out who you can get most games out of. Plus loading up against minnows is a must

I'm deciding between Mask and Taylor. Maybe just Taylor due to catches. Who to captain between Pany/ Chatra/ One of Taylor/Mask?

Taylor is a better batsmen than maz. Shame hes below in the order. UAE not taking any wickets would be an issue

Is the plan to load up on Zimbabwe bowlers ?...Those wickets and maidens don't half rack up the pts quickly.

Probably the best plan, if you have the space for two of them. I can only have the one.

Rahim 🙁 At least it wasn't Mortaza as you say.

I can't get a Zimbabwe bowler/allrounder without getting rid of Shakib, haven't decided whether I wan't to do that yet.

Will be doing Mahmadullah to Taylor for sure. What about you?
