FFS Cup

FFS Paddy Power Cup XI and Members Cup V – Entry Now Open

Fantasy Football Scout is pleased to announce two new Fantasy Premier League cup competitions which are set to take place over the season run-in. First of all, we roll out the eleventh instalment of our open-to-all cup competition, sponsored by Paddy Power. This is your chance to join our previous winners – donnellyc, Jonty, Gribude, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints, sleepingmaster, Mch, Wild Rover, Tdubb05 and our reigning champion CMIFLFC in our hall of fame.

We’ve also opened entry for the fifth instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Members Cup, as Trigg looks to defend his title. Fuzzy Dunlop, Kippax Kikkers and Acquafresca were our other previous winners of this tournament.

If you’re familiar with our competitions you can get your entries in right now via the links below. If you’re new to all this, read on for an FAQ on the competitions.

Enter the Paddy Power XI Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup V via this entry form.

How do the cup competitions work?

Our cup competitions are very similar to the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the manager highest in the overall standings will progress.

When do they start?

The qualifying rounds for both cups will take place in Gameweek 28, with the first rounds running on Gameweek 29.

Fantasy managers can enter their teams from now right up to Wednesday March 11, when we’ll stop entry and will be drawing the first round ties from the qualifiers.

There will be 512 qualifiers for the members cup and 1024 for the Paddy Power Cup XI – depending on the number of entries. All our previous winners gain a bye into the first round draw where they will join the top scorers from Gameweek 28.

FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions. The same rules apply in the Members Cup

How do I enter?

Enter the Paddy Power XI Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup V via this entry form.

In both cases you will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry and you’ll be asked to confirm your FPL team id at the point of entry – please be sure to click the link to verify that your team is correct before confirming.

To check that you’re entered correctly, please scan the list of current entries.

The Paddy Power Cup XI entry list can be found here.

The Members Cup entry list can be found here.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying rounds of both cups will be published on or around March 11 and then weekly from that point on.

What is the Gameweek Schedule?

These Cup competitions will be played out according to the following Gameweek schedule:

Yes, because your FPL team ID will have changed, we will need to record you entry again. As a previous winner, you will be given a bye to the first round proper.

Do I need to be registered with Fantasy Football Scout?

We ask you to supply a FFScout username so we can feature you, as a member of our community, in any articles associated with the tournament. Ideally, you will already have a username with us but this is not essential to enter (although it is for the Members Cup) – you must, however, supply a username for the purpose of the tournament so you can be identified in articles. You must not change this username throughout the course of the tournament, should you do so without permission, or should you enter multiple teams or if your FFS account comes under moderation for any reason, we reserve the right to remove you from a tournament.

Brady of Hull. One assist only on the last match but get out with 3 baps. Maybe still on penalty.

9 goals at home. 2 home fixtures. Does he fail twice? Slightly better than Giroud considering 2 gameweeks. On top of that Giroud can still be rotated.

Swaying towards no. It's effectively only a -2 but not as if easy fixtures. Also depends who you dropping for him. Deffo wouldn't drop Giroud

  7. GW28 - What's Your Thoughts ?
    President John F. Keninnsie
    • 10 Years
    9 years, 3 months ago

    My views on GW28:

    Spurs:
First things first - Tottenham have 4 matches in 9 days (away at Fiorentina, cup final against Chelsea, then the DGW games against Swansea and QPR). You'd expect the 'star players', Vertonghen, Eriksen, Kane etc to play both of the first two massive games, so it's really not out of the question that they might miss a DGW game. Can they play 4 games in 9 days?

Will they be on a hangover from advancing in the Europa League or winning the cup? Will they be down and unmotivated after a draining defeat or two? Time will tell. In saying that, Kane is a must. He'll be captained by the majority of people. Taking his price and form into consideration, I don't know why anyone would not pick him anyway.

Eriksen is definitely a strong candidate for a spot in our midfield. 9 goals this season is impressive for someone who used to be known mainly as an assister. I assume he'll have very high ownership for the DGW so it may be risky to go without.

However, as I said above, there's always a chance of him being rested, as we saw against West Ham. That game showed his importance to the team but if you think he might be rested in one of the games then it might be a clever move to go without him. The rest of the midfield - Chadli, Lamela, Dembele and co, should all be avoided. As far as the defence is concerned, I'll personally be going without a Spurs defender. Vertonghen and Walker are expensive and I wouldn't want them after the DGW.

Rose seems quite popular but there's a strong chance that Davies will play one of the games. My bet would be on Davies playing against his old club (Swansea) in the league. Lloris will surely play both games but I'm personally a fan of spending less on keepers as the cheaper guys usually get more save points and allow you to put your funds in higher-scoring positions. I'm also not too keen on spending a couple of transfers on goalkeepers (I wouldn't want Lloris for the rest of the season). Also, Spurs are hardly watertight at the back.

    QPR:
A DGW against Spurs and Arsenal doesn't offer too much cause for optimism for a relegation-threatened team. But these games come at a handy time for QPR as both of their opponents will be in the middle of a fixture congestion. I discussed Spurs' busy schedule above, but Arsenal are another team with games coming thick and fast.

The QPR game will be Arsenal's 3rd game in 7 days, and they also have an important FA cup game against Manchester United 5 days later. QPR will have opportunities, and they'll definitely look to take advantage of their potentially tired opponents. As far as the players are concerned, Austin is a good option. He's the main main, on penalties and is involved in the majority of QPR goals. I'd expect the R's to score in at least one of the games, and it's likely to be him.

As a cheap 5th mid, Matt Phillips is a decent shout. He seems to be favoured by the new manager and has three assists in his last three games. However, with favourable fixtures in GW28 for the template mids, it probably isn't worth picking him if it means benching a heavy hitter. I've seen Yun mentioned by quite a few. He's only 3.9m and is nailed on. But, thinking realistically, QPR won't get a clean sheet against Spurs or Arsenal. The minus points he'll incur from goals conceded will pretty much nullify his DGW. I'd expect 2-3 points over the 2 games for the South Korean and his fellow defensive teammates.

There's very little upside in picking a QPR defender with those DGW fixtures, although Yun may be a decent '5th defender bench-every-week' type of guy over the rest of the season.

    Single GW teams:
Looking at the rest of the fixtures in this week, Liverpool (BUR), Manchester City (LEI) and Southampton (CRY) all have excellent games on paper. Loading up on these players could be a sneaky little tactic. Skrtel, Kompany and Southampton defenders all have a great chance of out scoring the likes of Rose and Vertonghen.

Sterling, Mane and Silva could outscore Eriksen. Sturridge could easily bag a brace. Captaining Aguero might not be a bad idea either. Arsenal could score a few against QPR too, with Cazorla, Ozil, Sanchez and Giroud all looking like great GW28 options.

Although Spurs have 2 favourable fixtures, it's important not to get DGW players just for the sake of getting DGW players. Don't ignore the other profitable fixtures in the GW as these games will likely be the ones that give you a chance to gain some ground with a couple of differentials, assuming most active players will have Kane and Eriksen (and Austin for some).

Also, remember the players you get in will be in your team in GW29. Spurs are away at Old Trafford and having 2 or 3 players playing there might lead to a poor GW the week after. It'll take one transfer to get a DGW player in, and one transfer to get them out. Of course you may plan to keep your DGW players past the DGW, but the likes of Spurs defenders aren't good long-term prospects IMO. The big question is will it be worth spending 2 transfers on Spurs/QPR players just because they have an extra game for one week? You tell me...

I disagree on the Spurs defence.

I know they haven't kept too many clean sheets up until now but if they're going to start its going to be now.

Swansea (h) and QPR (a) has potential for a clean sheet. Granted United probably doesn't (although they kept a clean sheet last time out against us). Then after that these are the next four:

      Leicester (h), Burnley (a), Villa (h), Newcastle (a)

Definitely potential for a clean sheet or two in there. Rose is a decent price too and has attacking threat.

Sound analysis - if already owning Kane , to me it really boils down to:

      - Bring in Eriksen or not
      - Bring in Austin or not (both would be for a hit for most)
      - Captain Kane or Aguero

      1. President John F. Keninnsie

That third point is going to be massive I feel. Aguero at home to Leicester would be a dead cert for captaincy if there wasn't a DGW. That fixture's got explosion written all over it.

I'd keep Couthino. But for me it would be for Øzil or even Sanchez(!), as I already have three attacking Arsenal, so a bit less clear cut.

don't agree that Kane vs Aguero is easy - Kane might easily get limited minutes in one of the DGW fixtures.

Yeah I had a feeling someone would mention that about United. And Spurs are known for their inconsistency, easy home games on paper are exactly the type of games where they'll slump to a 0-1 loss from a sloppy goal just to frustrate their FPL owners 😉 Seriously though, I think people are underestimating their hectic schedule and the toll it will take on their players.

Thats a fair point alright but that will be for the DGW and like you said it'd be pretty risky to go without Kane or Eriksen. Defenders are a bit of a lottery though at least Spurs will give you two bites at the cherry for a cleanie provided your player plays both.

Im keeping an eye on the single GWers too but with Sanchez, Giroud, Silva and Aguero already I think Im well covered if they produce the goods.

Nice. Going with Erik and Kane for sure
Giroud to Austin for free? This is confusing me. Might do it for the fun. A giroud rest at some point?

For me, Austin is a better choice then Giroud all day long, not just for this GW but for the season. He's on penalties, he's the main man, has no risk of rotation and is fresh from no European football etc.

            Austin points per game 5.4

            Giroud points per game 4.2

You've said what so many are thinking here. I've only 1FT going into the DGW after sorting out defensive issues with Wasil/Baird and now PVA has popped up too. I only currently have Kane.

I could transfer in Eriksen as you say for Walcott, but then I'm going without City/Liverpool mids for those plum fixtures. Ignore Eriksen, go with ONE DGW player and bring in Sterling/Silva/Nasri instead?!

      Cheers for the post

It's tough isn't it? I really wouldn't be surprised if Sterling out scores Eriksen, but it all depends on how willing you are to risk going without someone who will be very highly owned and has the potential to do some damage. Silva is an interesting one and I'd like to see the impact Bony will have on him when he's starting. Nasri could be a nice under the radar pick...

I do have a wildcard in my pocket which could really be nice, but worried how GW33/34 is shaping up if the FA Cup semi finals have 3 prem teams, there will be a lot of blanks and the DGWs potentially right. Like this 27/28 cluster but worse.

Giving away my best ideas. Bah. 😉

Regards Eriksen the thing that will probably decide it for me is whether Spurs get through to the next round of the Europa League. I like Spurs' fixtures after the DGW and if they are clear of EL commitments I'll bring in Eriksen and keep him for a while - probably till my wildcard in 33/34.

If they beat Fiorentina I may well give him a miss because Thursday-Sunday tends to affect teams and also increases the chance of rotation. It's this rather than the DGW itself that will make my mind up I think.

I think if you look at the team Spurs put out against Fiorentina in the first leg, you could come to the conclusion that Europa League isn't their priority. They could rest a lot of players again on Thursday, so I don't think they will be tired for their league games.
I expect to be seeing Adebayor, Soldado and Chadli getting a few games.

That's true. If Kane or Eriksen start in that game then I'd really struggle to see them playing all of the next 3 after that. That lineup against Fiorentina will be interesting for sure.

Lack of Liverpool is my main concern for GW28 but one I'm unlikely to address, just have to hope Burnley can repeat their Stamford Bridge/Etihad performances.

If Eriksen starts against Fiorentina and Chelsea then I'll go without him. If he starts only one of them then I'm pretty sure I'll get him. He's definitely got the potential to hurt non-owners over 2 games, IF he starts them both...

Ah, I cant imagine him missing the Chelsea game but that doesnt mean he wont play the next two. It's a tough one. My real issue is fitting him in, then removing him after. I plan on Austin & Kane (C). Having said all this, just watch my ditch Cazorla for Eriksen >:|

Great post Inssie! This truly deserves a thumbs up for the effort and the write up! I fully agree with you. I won't be stacking up on so many Spurs and QPR players. Could just go with 2 Spurs players or maybe just an additional 1 QPR player without taking a hit (Been saving 2 FT for awhile).

I think what everyone is missing is the Single GW teams as you said could produce favorable returns. I won't be captaining Aguero but I'll sure be keeping him over any DGW player. And in the long run Spurs DGWers and QPR ones aren't really good to keep once their fixtures turn.

Brilliant article once again! And its good that you summed up all the keypoints! DGW could be a bonus but we have seen so many instances that it ruins one's season. It's good to think like a causal sometimes instead of trying to stack as many players as possible!

No problem! It's nice to log on and see such insightful posts! Planning more for such DGW though it is good, usually ends up in disaster. And in this case due to all the fixture congestion it might not be the best to stack up so many players!

Only thing with Aguero is, he'll probably be subbed early if they're up by three, especially now they've got Dzeko getting into form + Bony. So may get less than 60 minutes, maybe just one goal and limited baps.

      Hey Hutton...

We just generate one email for entry to each cup so the content is the same - aside from your entry ID which should be different.

As a rule, if you get an email per cup - you're in.

Mine says the same but I think you should read it as FFS Cup in general. And not the Scout Cup.

With a lack of experience when it comes to FPL - where is the smart money here?

    Panti
    PVA, Baird, Clyne, Bellerin
    Moses, Di Maria, Sanchez, Sanchez(Villa)
    Defoe, Aguero

    Elliot, Hazard, Kane, Terry

    1FT 5.8ITB

I am not keen to take a hit - so do I use the FT on Sanchez(Villa) / Baird / PVA and play 10?

Or keep FT for 2 next GW and go for the doubles?

This is a weak team but I have the feeling that many folk are in the same boat.

Why did I think Newcastle were playing Hull this GW?!

So, maybe Gil / Sinclair / Delph worth a shout for Colback to get 10 men out?

True, true, but Newcastle injury and suspension hit.

Pick a midfielder from Hull, Stoke, Villa or Newcastle for this GW < 5.8m

Villa lost 6 in a row. I myself can't see them losing v newcastle. maybe 0-0 or 1-1. there are better picks out there. I got in Moses last week.

Moses on the short-list, but I always seem to pick up the 2 pointers when I delve in to the Stoke squad!

          😀
And I'm going with Kun only because my rank is sh*t and dont really bother how much I'll fall in next few weeks. Maybe 95% of top 1k and around 90% of top 10k will go with Eriksen/Kane 🙂

If I go with a Spurs' player it'll be Eriksen. No. of shots conceded out of the box by both teams and no. of shots taken from outside the box by Eriksen, perfect match! 🙂

Yeah. Well im 170p clear in my ML and ranked around 3k. Have been between 2.5k and 6.5k for 10 weeks now and feel i need to take a risk otherwise Im gonna fade away and finish somewhere between 6-10k.

That being said, I will probably still bottle it and go for Kane.

    morning all

3 players out this week (Hazard, Terry and Kane) but have 2FT.

Thinking of Hazard--> Silva then if sanchez has another bad week transfer him out and Hazard back in. I've got Carloza so have arsenal cover.

    Good plan?

    Transfer sense check please. 2FTs

    Current team:
    Forster,Heaton
    Clyne, Moreno, Ivan, Zouma, PVA
    Fab, Sanchez, Sterling, Downing, Walters
    Aguero,Kane,Sturridge
