Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero is the runaway leader for City’s trip to Burnley. Whilst the Argentine has surprisingly struggled in front of his own fans – scoring just once at the Etihad since Gameweek 10 – he’s been far more consistent on his travels, producing attacking returns in ten of his 12 road trips so far. Given that the Clarets have a single shut-out in 17 Gameweeks, it’s no surprise that over 48% have handed Aguero the armband, though David Silva, with just 6% of the votes cast, could be a real captain differential on the back of four goals and two assists in his last six appearances.

Alexis Sanchez (11%) takes second spot as Arsenal welcome West Ham to the Emirates. Back in the goals against QPR last time out, the Chilean has served up two double-figure hauls (10 and 19) in his last four home appearances and squares up to a defence that have managed a single clean sheet on their travels all season.

Similar to City’s Silva, both Eden Hazard and Harry Kane have earned 6% of the votes cast. Hazard has managed just three assists in his last five at the Bridge ahead of the visit of Southampton, though it’s worth noting he’s still served up four sets of 10+ hauls in front of his own fans and has already produced a double-figure return at St Mary’s earlier in the season.

Kane rolls up to Old Trafford in the midst of a remarkable scoring streak. The Tottenham frontman has notched in each of his last six away matches, with scores of 8, 12, 7, 13, 11 and 13 underlining his extraordinary form against a United side that have kept out their opponents just once in the last five home fixtures.

Further down the likes of Olivier Giroud (3%) and Mesut Ozil (2%) offer alternatives against West Ham’s porous backline. The Frenchman has served up some consistent scores of late, netting in all but one of his last six starts, whilst Ozil has earned double-figures in each of his three Emirates appearances (13, 11, 10) since returning from injury.

Jason Puncheon (5%) and Charlie Austin (2%) are also backed as Palace and QPR’s dodgy defences go head-to-head at Selhurst Park. Puncheon’s explosive potential has already seen him deliver nine, 12 and 14-point hauls in eight appearances under Alan Pardew, whilst Austin has scored or assisted in all four of his previous road trips – encouraging form against a backline with a single clean sheet since their new manager took charge.

'' After Real Madrid's poor performance in their 4-3 defeat against Schalke, Gareth Bale left the Santiago with fans caling him an 'a**hole' and a 'A Welsh prostitute' aswell as other names.''

God, how I would love to see this club going down. The fans don't deserve the success they have always had.

As Liverpool´s replay in the FA cup is exactly three weeks before a potential midweek GW34 fixture; what is the minimum time in advance that a rescheduled fixture has to be announced? Is it even possible that (should they go through) they will get a DGW34 or will it come too soon?

I find shots on target the most dubious stat...preferring local knowledge...A shot off target by Sanchez or Hazard usually is not the same as a shot of target by somebody like Townsend...

Hitting the woodwork, for example, is considered a shot off target...but is actually a good indicator of future riches...whereas a row Z shot is pretty crap and promises more to come.

I don't recall ADM ever being a standout option based on SoT. He did have that early run where a Shot off Target got promoted to Chance Created while a Chance Created was promoted to a Shot on Target (ie goal). As for Townsend, I seem to recall he had lots of shots last season but fewer on target. I just wish that I'd followed SoT earlier with regard to Cazorla.

Lescott probably edges the nailed on ness, but Dawson is cheaper and seems to get forward more

He was lucky with pens and fks last season so his price is over inflated. The next 3 fixtures look as good a time as any though.

For Che DGW are most people aiming for double defence with Ivan, Terry or Azpi and one of Hazard or Costa? Or one def, Hazard and Costa?

Depends how many yellows Costa is on and/or if he still looks crap.

Yeah his yc situation is tricky. I currently only have Terry and trying to decide if I should go Ivan and Hazard or Hazard and Costa or Ivan and Costa. Saving my FT this week and was planning on doing Austin to Costa for Hull gw 30

Getting rid of Austin before a home game with Everton? Costa is awful away

Yeah just thought it could be a hammering by Che now there out of the CL. Feel like I should be using my transfers getting in DGW players also. I know Austin has a double but he has a blank also in 33

    In DGW 34:
    A. Green (WHU, av )
    B. Pantilimon ( ars, stk)
    C. none of them and stay with Foster ( LIV)

Is it worth buying goalkeeper fro DGW 34 in your opinion?
my 2 choice keeper now is Hamer

At a decent rank (15,000) right now. Thinking about punting it on Kane this week. I'm aiming for a four digit or 3 digit rank. Does anyone else agree its worth the punt this week given that Aguero could be protected this week for Barca? Or is it better to wait for other opportunities. I also feel this is the right week as City would most likely be out after next week, so Pelle would use Aguero freely. Probably this is the last week Aguero might be a bit protected. Feel that the time is running away to get into 4 or 3 digits. I've played all safe and popular captain choices till now.

    Cheers.

The united back line looks really bad and the most likely goal scorer has to be Kane. Also Spurs have to win it if they need to have a shot for CL.
