El capitan, De kapitein, kapteeni, la capitaine, der Kapitän. The captain.

There’s more than one way to boil an egg, skin a cat and choose a captain for your Fantasy Football team. Here’s how things look to be shaping up with this week’s Captain poll…

Carlos Tevez
The Argentinian bulldog of a man demonstrated his mettle last weekend, providing the decisive edge that put one over on Chelsea; this weekend he’ll be leading his club up against Newcastle who have been in varying shades of form so far this season. All these roads, and many more I am sure, have joined together to make Carlos Tevez the current leader of our poll with 27% of the vote, at the time of writing.

Steven Gerrard/Fernando Torres
In terms of sheer voting numbers, the Liverpool contingent are actually the most backed team so far in our poll – but a clear split in people’s choice between the midfield skipper and the Spanish maestro, mean that they’re duking it out – ever so closely – in second and third right now on 19% and 17% respectively. The Reds have been anything but fruitful so far this season, but as normal, the allure of a “big club” (or at least big players at a normal club, the way things are shaping up) with a home tie against Blackpool is hard to ignore. Given the Seasider’s defensive record away from home (10 goals conceded in 4 games) attacking returns for Hodgson’s men is expected.

Didier Drogba
A home fixture against Arsenal would pretty much negate the idea of someone being a prime candidate on our poll – but for one man. That man is, of course, Didier Drogba of Chelsea. The Ivorian points scoring record is staggering. Since the start of the 2009/10 season in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) he has started 37 games and scored more than the compulsory 2 points on 30 occasions. He’s also got a penchant for putting the Gunners to the sword, having scored a brace in both of their respective fixtures last season. Walking away with 25 FPL points from 2 games against a top four side is no mean feat, which is why Drogba continues to flourish and is currently on 11% in our poll.

Nani/Berbatov
The United pairing are flying and claiming a decent portion of our polling community to date as a result. The constant loss of team-mates to injury of the past few weeks can often be a penchant for disaster, but it has allowed both Nani and Dimitar Berbatov the freedom to shine and establish themselves as the cutting edge within Alex Ferguson’s squad. The trip to the Stadium of Light won’t be an easy encounter for United but, with the back four likely to come under pressure, attack may well be the best form of defence, leaving Nani and Berbatov as the key to earning three points.

The spice of life…
It’s variety, in case you were wondering. If the four horseman of the fantapocalypse (above) aren’t attracting your armband this week then – while most would perceive you as crazy – you’re probably one of the few considering the likes of Peter Odemwingie and Rafael Van Der Vaart as curveball selections. Home fixtures against Bolton and Aston Villa may well bring the bragging rights this weekend.

If you’ve yet to commit to your vote, why not head back to the frontpage and lay your most decisive marker for the week ahead and, as usual, come back here to share your choice with the knowing world and perhaps even dabble in some justification. I’ll start us off… I’m going with Torres; for old times’ sake.
