Sometimes us Fantasy Managers are just too fickle. Surely few of us lost faith in Charlie Adam? We know his influence in the Blackpool midfield – his role of quarterback, prompting every move of purpose with careful possession, launching instant attacks with raking 60-yard passes. We also know that Adam sits on free-kicks and penalties – today’s brace in the 2-2 draw at Ewood reminded us just how vital that can be.

We had all the information then, and yet, going into gameweek 30, only 1% of our Captain Poll voters fancied backing the balding ball-hogger, with heavyweight temptations like Wayne Rooney, Rafeal Van der Vaart and Nani drawing the eye.

I’m just as much to blame. Shamefully omitted form the Scout Picks behind the gameweek Fantasy failures Ashley Young and Samir Nasri, it’s almost as if Adam’s potential had slipped from memory.

Had a two-game suspension and an FA Cup break really wiped my brain? Had I mistakenly marked the data storing Adam’s achievements for “recycling” along with last week’s Masterchef winner and everything my girlfriend has ever told me?

That can’t be the case.

No, I’m only guilty of being fickle – banged to rights; distracted by bigger names and transient thrills that threw a smokescreen over Adam’s dependable potential.

Charlie is back now. Today’s points haul a sharp elbow in the ribs for the 140,000 Fantasy Premier League Managers who sold him on in recent gameweeks. A slap in the face for a Scout Picks selector seduced by erratic chancers like Villa’s Young.

And yet, I can’t guarantee that Adam will be back in my affections just yet. Can I squeeze him in my own star spangled midfield unit when it’s Fulham away and Arsenal at home to come next? Maybe.

That Arsenal game is the first of four consecutive Bloomfield Road matches – a spell that will surely guarantee that Adam’s price will rise quicker than his calorie count in May.

A new Adam bandwagon is rolling then. My memory banks safely restored. Fickle nature restrained.

By the way, Clint Dempsey scored tonight. Remember him? Didn’t he win Masterchef?

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

His mind isn't there, is Ponting's. For memory, his last decent outing was the 2nd Inning of the Brisbane test, which didn't even matter. But I think the loss was pretty beneficial. We learnt a lot about the team. And I'm a Victorian and I'm doubting why White is there. IMO, he's in more danger of being replaced than Piggy Smith.

And I really don't want India. We're partialy screwed if we do get them.

Yeah, I was the 28th to register this season. My ID last year was completely different.

They have data going back to 2006, so I'd assume that's when it all started, but that was long before my team.

I've controlled myself to 5 this season. It helps by making sure you look more long term for your trades, not short term. Plus the mid-year wildcard helped.

I personally subscribe to making changes every week (35 so far this year, not including wildcards) to ensure I have the best team available that week and for the next few weeks(in my mind, just a shame it doesn't always work it on the pitch).

Long term thinking can be blown away by injuries, form and many other variables and weekly transfers can be so addictive and fun.

Couldn't watch the games yesterday, but just saw my recorded MOTD, very good. Pleasantly surprised to see Nani got 3 baps, didn't see him do too much in the highlights. Was so close to taking an 8 point hit to get either Young or VDV, lucky escape this time. Very much enjoyed Adam taking a break from burger-munching to have a great game.

The stats actually show that Adam didn't have a great game, at least not compared with his previous games. He just scored a penalty and a free-kick, although admittedly an unbelievable one.

Agreed, that's why I got him immediately back in, despite not having an obviously favourable fixture. It will be a massive shame, assuming he's still in the league, when his price is jacked up to about 9 million next season!

I watched the Man Utd game and I thought Smalling played pretty well. I think it's because Nani always seemed to have the ball is why he got the 3 BPs. He didn't necesarily use it well all the time, but he got a lot of it. Rooney had a very tough day at the office and it was hard to watch your captain struggle and not get anything!

Yeah sure, and there was a period this year when the Baines crosses to Cahill machine was working very well indeed. What I meant with that with Cahill and Arteta out Baines was in the frame for some increased set-piece duties, and he still could take some, but definitely less so. But fair point that it's only one part of his potential returns.

Tempting, but despite Young's patchiness, that Villa run-in still looks very nice, and he had at least one shot off the crossbar. Personally I feel nervous about my lack of Villa attacking cover. But easy for me to be casual about it as I have Lampard, so who knows.

Pollard won't obliterate him at all. He's such a flat track bully it's untrue.. I remember him facing Mendis - back when he'd just broken onto the international scene and teams hadn't seen much of him at all - and Pollard was absolutely all over the place. It was in the 20/20 World Cup so he was playing all these big shots, but wasn't getting close to any of them because he just couldn't pick Mendis.

I hope Utseya for his mentalist aggressive batting (wish he was in there earlier), but I've no idea really. As you say there is no standout performer either batting or bowling.

I can safely say that Utseya won't get it. He was Zimbabwe's worst bowler and only batted for six balls!

Yeah, shame though. Would have been a welcome points haul 🙂

looking at the scorecard it could be anyone. ervine for his score and strike rate must be a front runner though

Price over Utseya went well. 😉

luckily utseya didn't get to bat more. price's economy has been supreme all tournament even against the big guns. that's what swung it for me

Horrible to think that just a couple of more balls at the crease could have earned Utseya an extra 50 (100) points...

Could Saha be back in a few weeks time?

Well impossible to say now, but ankle injury on top of troubling hamstring and given his history... he may not reciprocate your love if you keep him.

Doesnt look good does it! I do the Telegraph game so thinking about swapping him for lampard today. Worried about the internationals though and whether I should wait until a fortnights time.

Sorry Phobic I'm not familiar with the Telegraph game so can't comment. But if it's a choice between Saha and Lampard I'd say you'd be making a good move 🙂

True but they will undoubtedly be more excited about a jiffy bag, you always think it would be something nice. So they will be unsuspecting until they rummage around in it

Zhirkov out of the starting eleven again today? Would have been a most interesting option if he was likely to get a run of matches.

Malouda started the season valued at 9.5m. He rose to 10.4m and now finds himself at 9.4m. Bit of a roller-coaster season!
