Suarez- Will He Start the Season?

Despite his exertions for Uruguay in this month’s Copa America, it seems Luis Suarez may well be ready for Liverpool’s opening game of the season at home to Sunderland.

The forward has been given a three-week break by his club but reports have surfaced in this morning’s papers suggesting he will cut short his holiday in preparation for the start of the 2011/12 campaign.

Suarez, voted Player of the Tournament for Uruguay as they swept aside Paraguay in Sunday‘s final, has already had a substantial rest period over the past few months; while at Ajax, he served a seven-match ban for biting an opponent in late November last year and had a fortnight break prior to the Copa America. Fears of burn-out, therefore, seem slightly off the mark.

While there has been no official line from either club or player on the matter, the story, nevertheless, carries significant weight for Fantasy managers as they continue tinkering with their squads ahead of the season opener on 13th August.

Liverpool’s starting trio of matches reads (SUN, ars, BOL) and Suarez, priced at just 9.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has already shown in the second half of last season just how integral he will be to Kenny Dalglish’s side next term- a look at our Members Area confirms we have similarly high expectations for Suarez in 2011/12. For those looking for early Liverpool forward investment, Andy Carroll, at 10.0, looks the better bet until the situation offers more clarity.

My first post! What do people think about having Gervinho and RVP? Risky? If they played for different teams they'd be straight in my team without thinking. Thoughts welcome..

I'm not sure I'd get two strikers from the one team. Bad policy that.
If Gervinho was classed as a mid I'd strongly consider him - then still probably not get him at 9.0 as he probably wont be on set pieces.

If Routledge joins Swansea, I'm going to stick my neck out and say he's better value at 5.0 than Sinclair at 6.0 (even considering penalties).

He's been excellent in the Champ the last few seasons, and Sinclair only picked up an end product from about December. As good as SS was, I think Routledge is the better player.

Well just watching him for us I think that the Championship is his level, I agree he does well there but looked pretty poor in the Prem.

So I no Chelsea coverage at all and I'm a little worried about it. However this is my thinking...
I don't think that Lampard is gonna be the force that the hype suggests. He had an adverage season last season by his high standards and I think that type of form will continue. The fact that his favoured position is being given to other Chelsea players by the manager pre season says to me that the manager wants him in his side but feels he has better options when it comes to where he wants to play.
All the strikers are a shadow of themselves and for me represent a gamble until consistent form is shown.
The defence while predictable is over priced and think there are better options elsewhere.

Having said all of this I think that Chelsea will do well Im just not sure and I don't think it's clear to anyone who the driving force behind any good form will come from.

    Anyone else agree with that?

Yeah Auto captain on Form and then pick a second choice keeper as captain on the first day. The keeper subs and your highest scoring player is auto captained. Only works for GW 1 after that there is no cheat.

Lampard was plagued by injuries last season and still managed an incredible 130 points with very few games played. Also with just 3.6% ownership with a very nice run of fixtures where Chelsea can amass a lot of attacking points. Lampard with his penalties, his shooting outside of the box ability, is passing, is bound to attract bonus points and prove a big differential for the savvy fpl manager.

You pay for what you get this season. 12.0M players are essential to their team. This is what makes this seasons so hard but much more competitive. You gotta take your picks.

As for Torres, he is a class player, and for whatever reason since the latter end of his Liverpool career he has not been on form. But I have learned from my time lurching on FFS that form is temporary and class is forever. Its choosing the time for when he will explode that will determine if your risk will pay off.

    Anyway just my 2 cents.

I agree with you completely. If Lamps looks to have any semblance of form and seems integral to VB's plans in pre-season, with Chelsea's fixtures he has to go in.

Torres is a def no for me - far too expensive, not on set peices and a massive rotation threat. Even when he starts he is likely to get dragged off after an hr given the striking options in reserve

I have him in my team and he is claiming that Lamps is past it! As for Torres, you don't go from being the most feared stiker in the prem to a has been over night. I think he will come good, I am just not sure if I am going to be taking risks at this stage of competition....I think Torres is a wait and see, although by that point it maybe too late.

Ok for what it's worth I think defence is far too expensive, possibly have to drop one of Baines or Ivanovic

Mignolet not a guaranteed starter with the acquisition of westwood and gordon's availability uncertain

Dempsey a little too pricey for me - made a large quota of his points when playing up front last season due to injuries. He made an average of 4.89 points per game, whereas someone like duff - who is 2 mil cheaper - made 4.36 per game

      K. Davies: Bolton's run of games are horrific
Suarez: yes, if playing from week 1
Hernandez: wont feature for the first few weeks

Ivanovic is soo much better then Cole. Im not buying the rotation rumour with him, hes easily one of their most consistent, reliable performers.

    Hi Guys,

Please take a look over my team, any advice would be much appreciated 🙂

    Al- habsi (mignolet)

    Kompany Luiz Dunne Hughes (Simpson)

    Malouda N'Zogbia Silva Taarabt (Ferguson)

    Suarez Bent Holt

I know theres some Q's around Suarez starting season but could swap for Carrol?

A lot of this team is a gamble.

Luiz to start? The rest of the defence seems sound.

Malouda only really performed first half of last season. Will he turn up this year?

Nzog v pricey not sure how villa will gel and Bent seems very pricey for what he is too.

Obv suarez is a big Q?

Cheers Jason , good feedback, yeah I know what you mean about Luiz and malouda but am desperate for some Chelsea coverage!

I think bent is guaranteed Goals and is also on Pens so may stick with him?

Who would you suggest changing them for?

Bugger this! I want Suarez but I NEED my big guns to at the very least play and unless i get a confirmation in no uncertain terms that suarez starts its too much.

    GIVEN (RUDDY)
CASHLEY KOMPANY A HUGHES (BARDSLEY SIMPSON)
MOSES LAMPARD YAYA TAARABT (N DYER)
    HOLT RVP CARROLL

Still not surre about Moses but not many better alternatives at that price. Still feel dirty without tevez in my team

IS there any cheap rotation options with Wolves? Looking at RJ or Elokobi.
FUL, QPR, NEW, wba, SWA, WIG in the first 11 weeks look like a decent cheap option.

Yes I have thought them also, but my current plan is survive without any MUN players untill I use my wildcard gw 10. If I change my plans, I think Young is the best pick from MUN's midfield. I'm going to do Cahill -> VDV in gameweek 6, when Everton's fixtures gets tougher. And yes I know, I have planned everything way too far and many things may change.

Get rid of Wilshere either for another 6.5 mid like Duff, Ether, MGP or downgrade and improve your defence.

With the new bonus system Cahill may not be on the BP every week
