The Fantasy Flutter with Paddy Power – Gameweek 7

Last week’s big treble didn’t quite pay off as we fell shy of the target on two legs out of the three. The £100 payout seemed good value as free-scoring Everton netted three and a besieging United bagged two but, alas there were no quails eggs and Champagne for us; we’ll just have to settle for a can of Stella and a Ginsters instead. Or maybe a couple of cans, as, true to our word, last week’s banker came good and put some cash back in our pocket. Steven Fletcher netted again, maintaining his record as Sunderland’s only scorer, winning us our stake money back with a quid to spare. Still in profit, then, let’s see what Paddy have for us this week…

League leaders Chelsea have looked a step above the rest ever since taking home the Champions League trophy at the end of last season. Fernando Torres is doing just enough up front, new boys Oscar and Victor Moses have shown glimpses of potential to justify their lofty price tags, and future world-beater Eden Hazard has racked up six assists in as many games. Okay, so the Belgian has gone off the boil but, with Norwich at the Bridge, fresh from a Carrow Road spanking at the hands of Liverpool, we fancy Hazard to enjoy a renaissance. Paddy are offering 5/2 on a Hazard goal with a Chelsea clean sheet and we’re staking our first £4 on this.

Gareth Bale was a little slow to settle amongst the new summer signings at The Lane, barely making a mark on the first three games. Since then he’s netted twice, forged three assists and helped himself to three Fantasy Premier League maximum bonus hauls in a row. With a favourable home fixture against visiting Aston Villa, a Bale goal with a Spurs cleanie at 4/1 is a worthy shout, and we’re willing to wager a couple of quid.

Swansea have been quite the opposite from Spurs, with goals and glory early on in their campaign, but have since suffered three straight losses leading up to their Liberty Stadium bout against Reading. Michu was pivotal to their early success and will be looking to reopen his goalscoring account again on Saturday. Having netted four quickfire goals to attract early Fantasy investment, Paddy’s price of 9/2 on a Michu goal and Swansea cleanie seems a worthy punt. £2 on brings us back the same return as last weeks banker.

Our Goal-Assist-Cleanie treble this week is a shade shorter than our last effort, but the probability is much more in our favour. Robin Van Persie features again to make a mark in his trip to Newcastle, alongside Eden Hazard to gain an assist against Norwich and title holders Man City to keep their first clean-sheet of the season against the Black Cats. Van Persie might well be the Achilles heel here again, with Newcastle having won to nil once at the Sports Direct Arena so far this season already. This treble is offered at 15/2 and might not be tempting enough for some, but with £1 to spare we’re gonna let it ride.

I was in the same boat, I pulled the trigger because I also have ba and it felt like too much newc cover, plus they have sun away next game and hba is a hothead so there's a chance if its heated he could see red, the only downside to bale is that he will only have 48 hrs rest, but he's a fit lad and for this reason I'm captaining jelly

Can you really trust Tottenham or Bale(as streaky as he is). I would really go with to more subtle approach and bank on that 1 goal or assist from RVP than go big or go home with Bale.

Im kind of a United supporter, so I am not a good man to answer this 🙂 But I think looking at the averages than Ba is currently on 3.2 shots per goal with last year during his first half of the years hot streak he finished it on 4 shots per goal. So I think he is due a small dip in form in the next 2 difficult fixtures. You can not not play him But I would not captain. Have gone for hazard over Ba in my personal team. In your case id maybe go Bale- but that is close.

Currently have (c) on Hazard but i had it on Bale all week... Still very very torn
The way I'm currently looking at it is that Norwich's defense is very sloppy, sloppier than Villa's by some margin... I was hoping bale woudve been rested mid week but he played 90 mins... while Haz played half and hour and has an Extra day to rest(3 compared to bale's 2 resting days)
    Am i thinkin straight mates?

Am I insane to seriously consider Ba as a captaincy option.

Scored 2 against Utd last season and considering how history repeated itself last weekend(Suarez hattrick vs. Norwich), what do you guys think 😉

He'll score 1 goal at the most. I don't see him bringing in a massive haul this weekend.

I reckon Papiss will explode instead.

Don't get me wrong, I have Ba and have enjoyed him since GW2. However, I think the points haul will come to a halt this weekend.

But if your gut tells you to captain him, do it.

a wee bit risky imo. do other players in your league have him? if not then i dont think its worth the risk. Bit early in the season for a gamble like that

Why do people say stuff like "first to respond gets my choice",or "who should be my C",best of five.Surely the idea of the game is to select your own team, using tips from sites like this one.If you need every other sod to pick your side ,what's the point? That is of course that your over 8 years old !

Haz, but cant say im feeling good about it. Dont have bale, other options were Tevez(cant see many goals vs Sunderland) Jelly(dont think hell explode 2 weeks in a row) and also Michu but just no.

Looking at averages it seems Hazard is due a goal from open play, but that is not how these things work always 🙂
