The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Six – Ghost Ship

Ghost Ship – a Fantasy Football team picked for the first Gameweek and then left to drift without a crew or rudder for the rest of the season. It would stand to reason that such a vessel would hit the rocks and sink without trace. Sometimes, however, they can navigate an unlikely route to glory.

Tell us about. This latest episode is a timely one given the time of year and it’s a “Ghost Ship” lineup, “managed” by the most unlikely member of the team to be up amongst the top ranks that takes up a good proportion of our time, leaving Granville and myself pondering the meaning of it all.

Around all that, we both manage to find the motivation to bring you the regular topics with the concept of “chasing points” coming under discussion, alongside “all aboard”, the weekend preview and a long tale of Granville’s injury list. Ouch.

    Pretty settled on this WC team, unless anyone finds a glaring mistake?

    De Gea, Begovic

    Cameron, Olsson, Cuellar, Santon, Baines

    Maloney, Gera, Cazorla, Bale, Mata

    Ba, RVP, Rodriguez

    Imo you can take a risk on one player with a WC, and De Gea is mine! Lovely fixtures, great price, I think he may have that no.1 spot.

    Rod is my sneaky route to SOU fixtures, playing well and should start till Gaston is back.

      Word of warning on Gera, people expecting Morrison to reclaim is role in attacking mid and Gera may well be axed.

        I heard on the grape vine (so not sure how reliable) that Gera would hold the spot. Hmm something to consider though. Rotation is a pain.

          Gera might get a role on the wing but with Yacob back, he'll come straight back into CM, allowing Morrison to come forward.

          It was only really due to injury that forced Morrison back. They expect Yacob to be fit again which shoyld push Morrison forward. That said, if you've no worries about bringing on a sub instead you can always risk it.

            An easy option would be to find the money (santon to Hughes) and upgrade Gera to Taarabt who rotates well with Maloney like Gera.

            But that could be a case of switching one rotation risk for another 😀

      Goalkeeper isn't really a position where there is a huge variance of points therefore I think you should downgrade De Gea and the upgrade one of Maloney, Gera or Rodriguez.

      That's a waste of Bego's fixtures, get rid of De Gea and upgrade one of your 3 cheapy attacking players. 2 max i'd say.

        They rotate well enough for this period :-), only once really do they both have a good fixture from a defensive point.

        3 cheapo's is a worry though, but not sure who I fancy in the 4.5-4.0m goal keeper range long term.

      De Gea is a waste of money in that United defence. If you buy him you are stone mad.
      Get a cheaper keeper, you already have begs.
      Use the money to swap Gera to Morrison. Gera will be dropped again soon - guaranteed.
      Clarke is a big fan of Morrison so he will play in the hole when Yacob comes back in.

      Is Ba fit? Could consider HBA if he isnt

        Ah come on, De Gea and the United defense ain't that bad. Nice fixtures from GW11 on-wards and one of the few teams capable of getting a few clean sheets in a row.

        I see the appeal of a cheap keeper with Begos fixtures now, but long term I can't see it working out. The 4.0-4.5m range is pretty bleak in the keeper situations.

        I can see the point about Gera though, may have to reconsider him.

        Ba is 50/50, but I got him early when he was 7.6 I think, so not going to sell now unless he is ruled out for a long period.

          Cool, In that case I'd keep Ba too.
          You'll be sorry with DeGea tho. He's 5.6 and falling like a stone for good reasons. Namely, United being unable to defend properly (Sot, Ful, Spurs, Stoke - so many examples) and also De Gea could be rotated again at any wknd. Good keepers in this game DO NOT get rotated, especially at 5.6m!
          When Vidic is back and DeGea nailed on I'd say maybe but until then its dead cash and Begs on the bench......

              I agree although there are some gems in the UK still. The Inbetweeners is one of the finest comedies I've watched in a long time. Still, it's no Only Fools and Horse, The Royle Family or Father Ted (yes I know that had all my Irish lads in it and Irish writers but was still a UK production.)

      Replace Wilson with Nelsen and play Nelsen this week instead of Gorkss. Demel will be back soon so keep him.

      Maloney - Sterling not urgent unless you want to play Sterling this week ahead of Michu.

      I'd also do Caz - Mata. I fancy them both to score points this wknd but prefer Mata for the season.
      Caz has never been a goalscorer and his finishing is shocking by comparison with Matas.

        I think Cazorla's stats really do scream consistent points over the season...Bale is more direct and perhaps more explosive...If Bale's next 3 were any easier I'd find it quite a simple decision...but Caz has 2 home fixtures and Bale has two hard away fixtures...

        I do have faith in Caz but it might ultimately be a detriment!
