Monitor – Dimitar Berbatov

Back in Gameweek 11, Dimitar Berbatov appeared to have sealed the deal. Having fetched a brace and assist in Fulham’s outstanding display at Arsenal, the Bulgarian looked an essential purchase as a third striker option, used in tandem with two heavy-hitters – most likely Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez.

Under the crafty stewardship of Martin Jol once again, and with form and strong fixtures in front of him, Berbatov looked primed to add to his impressive early goal tally. Since the disappointing home defeat to Sunderland in Gameweek 12, however, he has drawn blanks in every game, a spell that has coincided with the injury and absence of Bryan Ruiz.

With news of the Costa Rican suffering a hamstring setback which could keep him sidelined for another month, it seems timely to examine Berbatov’s form in more detail. In this latest article for members we check on how the absence of Ruiz has changed the Bulgarian’s game, whilst assessing the chances of an upturn in fortunes as Fulham’s fixture list continues to grant Berbatov a platform for returns.

Let’s start by rolling back to Gameweek 11 to examine just how prosperous Berbatov had been in his first six starts for Fulham. Despite missing matches against City and Southampton, the striker had been in outstanding form between Gameweeks 4-11, notching five goals and earning three assists on his way to nine Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points. The double figure return at Arsenal confirmed his class and seemingly “fixture-proof” status and, with an array of attractive opponents in front of him, all looked rosy.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I have gone with Jussi at the moment, but I have also left Cameron on the bench aswell so I can play Shorey, Cuellar and Williams. Just think WHU have a better chance against Liverpool.

Why do people think it is a good idea to keep Silva? Would it not be better to switch to Fellaini?

Someone give me some news on Andy Wilkinson. As long as it's good news, i.e. he's fully fit for the weekend.

If it's bad news, I don't want it.

    Hello Everybody.
I've just joined the site so excuse my newb-acity but after reading the above article I found no mention whatsoever of Brede Hangeland's absence during weeks 12-15. Before joining and reading the article I had just assumed it was that which was leading to Berbatov's dry spell, and so was looking forward to seeing him back in the scoring charts from tomorrow on.

The article seems very thorough, with a lot of stats to back up the argument, but surely Hangeland's absence has some weighting in Fulham's dry spell ??

As I say, I'm a football newb so feel free to point out any errors in my thinking.

Hi, Hangeland missing 3 games because of suspension would most likely have affected Fulhams overall performances and Bairds partial absence over this period has maybe added to that but the miss for Berbatov has been Ruizs injury as he was teaming up well with Berb and had provided 7 assists up to that point imo.
