Mourinho Back at the Bridge

As expected, Chelsea have confirmed the re-appointment of Jose Mourinho on a four-year contract. The Portuguese manager will return to Stamford Bridge after finishing his stint at Real Madrid only yesterday and fills the vacancy left by Rafa Benitez’s departure to Italian outfit Napoli.

The club’s Chief Executive, Ron Gourlay, announced earlier this afternoon:

“I am delighted to welcome Jose back to Chelsea. His continued success, drive and ambition made him the outstanding candidate.It is our aim to keep the club moving forward to achieve greater success in the future and Jose is our number one choice as we believe he is the right manager to do just that. He was and remains a hugely popular figure at the club and everyone here looks forward to working with him again.”

Mourinho will be presented to the press officially on Monday June 10 and his return to these shores will certainly add a little more spice to the Premier League as the Blues plot to overhaul both Manchester clubs at the top of the table. We’ll have more on Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge in a forthcoming “Moving Target” report later in the week.

      Yeah of course. It's not about whether players move clubs or not. It's about their current transfer value and whether you think it has the potential to rise even further or is high enough as it is to contribute significantly to your overall squad value.

    A few questions @thecouncil

    1) The value of the player is taken into consideration on what date exactly? So on the last day of the transfer window, transfers happen but the value hasn't changed. What happens here?

    2) Value based on transfers and transfers alone?

    3) When does value change?

    4) We're looking at a squad of 15 with the highest value correct, not the highest change in value?

      2) There are other contributing factors that determine player value such as age, form, length of contract. It's up to us to figure out the inner workings of Transfer Markt.

      Real world transfer amounts are not directly mirrored on Transfer Markt either. Hulk was bought by Zenit for £48.4M last summer, this resulted in his price rising from £32.5M to £39.5M. That should act as a rough guide for potential risers.

      3) Value won't change on specific dates from what I understand. All we need is for the rises to occur between the day we buy the player and the end of the game in August. If players rise outside of these periods it's just bad timing.

          In answer; You may have read in my article 😎

          “Market values normally change during or after the the Summer and Winter transfer periods, Exceptions do occur. Participants of big international tournaments will be evaluated after those tournaments and in cases of proven high fee offers or just extreme changes in the situation of a player.”

          So we expect that big signings will be updated pretty quickly, but the more mundane will take longer as well as updates on all non-transferred players. This is why we cannot give a specific date for the results of this tournament, but only that the values will be taken AFTER updates have been completed.

          And yes Zep there is a forum for this on TransferMarkt, see if you can find it as it is useful.

            The game ends August 30th. What if like you say transfer value updates are done in dribs and drabs and different players are not updating until days after August 31st. How long will you wait? Until every player bought in the game updates?

    Can I address the young man with Lawro as his display picture one moment please? I've noticed you're beating the Aspas drum a lot. I really like the look of him too - think he looks like a more direct version of Coutinho. There's something slightly Thierry Henry-like about him. Do you think there's any chance he'll be listed as a mid? How do you think he'll be priced? How much would you be willing to pay? Are you convinced he'll be nailed on or will you wait to see?       I really rate him, the Spaniards really like the look of him too and feel like we've landed ourselves a bargain in him, I don't see the Henry comparisons myself, I feel he's more of a Tevez style, I think there's a small chance he will be classified as a Midfielder but I believe it's likely he'll be a striker, I feel that he will be nailed on, especially with Suarez and Downing leaving and Sturridge injured however I think he will play right inside forward, which isn't necessarily a bad thing FPL-wise as he's left footed, he has an eye for goal, is a decent dribbler, has pace, good technical ability and awareness, I think he's sneaking under the radar and he will definitely be in my team next season as long as he's priced 8M or under 😀

      Most teams would have formed their core by the first round of all positions....so the later you release the players, more difficult it is for other clubs to grab the player released. Also, they are releasing them in the later rounds for some obvious reason, ie. they foresee a decrease in market value for the player. To penalize that, adds a strategic touch to the game. 🙂

      Thanks to our testers though. Initially we had them as 0 > 5 > 10. They spotted this as too much and brought them to our notice 🙂

    Since I reckon the first game is the most evenly balanced of the lot, I think I'm gonna triple up on both Israel and Norway then transfer out the worst performing of the 3 for my Spanish, Dutch and German subs...

      They are one of the hardest to predict, since the manager seems set on playing everyone for 45 mins...

      My guess is that the players who started this friendly match v Slovakia would be the first choice, but that is just a guess, he could easily have started with half his first choice on the bench to be played in the second half...

        If you're looking at Israeli players I would only look at Biton and Dasa, not even worth a glance at the rest, especially if you have to end up keeping one or two of them.
        I'd go for Smolov (RUS), harder teams to play against and cost a bit more.... but he is nailed on both the team sheet and pens, plus he bangs in a fair few goals. Never underestimate mother Russia.
