Romelu Lukaku flexes his substantial Fantasy football muscles to wreck the Newcastle defence and leave us re-assessing our forward lines yet again. Meanwhile, the withdrawal of Hatem Ben Arfa and a transformed second-half showing from Newcastle has his owners hovering over the panic button.

The Game Changer

Lukaku simply ran riot in the first half with the Newcastle back four unable to cope with his pace and power. Having transformed and won the game at Upton Park from the bench, this evening, the Belgian dismantled the Magpies with a brace and an assist that put the game out of reach.

We shouldn’t be surprised by Lukaku’s impact. We saw last season that, when he is given pitch time, he can deliver, with 17 goals from just 20 league starts at West Brom. Jose Mourinho may feel that his game is not refined enough for the Chelsea squad but Lukaku has nonetheless proved to be hugely effective on the Premier League stage.

Fantasy managers now have to carefully consider their front lines. Lukaku at 7.6 and rising in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will clearly represent outstanding value if he can replicate the strike rate shown at the Hawthorns. On tonight’s evidence, there’s every chance he can achieve that and more, putting further pressure on the three slots in our squad.

The Underused

It seems almost folly to discuss yet another option up front but we shouldn’t ignore Loic Remy’s late goal which left the Goodison nerves jangling. Three goals in three starts underline the Frenchman’s impact that, while less explosive than Lukaku’s at Everton, has been no less effective.

Available in the same FPL price bracket, Remy’s performance will likely be overlooked but, having been shifted to a central role in place of Papiss Cisse tonight, it’s clear that Remy will, quite literally, be central to their aspirations this season.

The Selection Poser

Hatem Ben Arfa’s withdrawal at half-time took everyone by surprise and yet, minutes later, his replacement Yohan Cabaye, scored from range to hand the Magpies an unlikely lifeline. Despite attempting to focus play through Ben Arfa in the first half, Alan Pardew took the decision to replace him with the more combative Cabaye for the second period and the change appeared to pep up the visitors as they came close to an unlikely comeback.

The reason behind the change is uncertain. Certainly Alan Pardew gave no indication of an injury in his post-match comments, leaving Ben Arfa’s owners frustrated at the curtailed pitch time and somewhat anxious that the mercurial winger may have fallen out of favour ahead of the Gameweek 7 trip to Cardiff. We await further noises from St James’ Park.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I already have a front line of Giroud / Rooney / Lukaku, but really feel I need Liverpool going forward.
Suarez would be my man, but would have to release Rooney due to cash flow, otherwise it's Sturridge for one of the other 2.

Suarez would be a real differential in my mini league...

    Thoughts?

Avoid Liverpool mids for starters, if you're going to ditch anyone it will have to be Giroud - although I still feel like he has a lot of goals in him, so I'd just hold for now

Thanks for the opinions, I've just dumped Rooney for Suarez.

Liverpool are the form team over United.
Giroud has zero competition so really had to stay.
and Lukaku to Sturridge would be a waste of price rises, and of little use in my mini league.

I'm with you RM9. Hope it works out.

    Current midfield

    Brady, Michu, Ramsey, Barfa, JWP

I will want Theo when he comes back. So i have 3 options

    a) Sell HBA now and get a Spurs mid or Whittigham and sell Ramsey for Theo
    b) Sell HBA and sell JWP for Theo (likely leading to rotation or benching dilemma)
    c) Keep HBA 1 more week, save the FT then get Theo for NOR (when he should be back)

Just did it. I'm a Utd fan and I'm sorry to say they're a different prospect this year. I've been patient with RvP but I think the haters are right; he's not worth 14mill. Suarez will play every minute of every game for a team with improving form and his fixtures are equally as good. Remember last year he stuck with RvP until his ban, for me the transfer is a no-brainer.

A quick guide for everyone who is new to FPL (or simply lazy - STOP):

    1) Price changes:

    visit http://www.totalfpl.com/pricechanges

    It's that simple!

    FAQ:

    Is Fiso reliable?

No, Fiso is not reliable, just use TotalFPL.

    Will xxxx rise tonight?

Visit the link. Don't be lazy, nobody likes a lazy person. If you want to forecast if someone will rise before the night is up (providing nothing unusual happens) - In GMT for example work out the difference between 2am and now (E.g Midday would be 10 hours, 13:00 11 hours etc), then divide the % rise by the number and x it by 24. If this would take them over 100% then yeah they will probably rise (best guess)

    2) Bonus points

    Go to your points page

Click the game you are concerned about

    Click detailed stats

Find the highest 3 in the BPS column. Where multiple people score the same, they will be awarded BPS equally until the 3 BPS allocations are used.

    For example:

    20 A
    19 B
    18 C
    17 D

A,B,C get the BPS (Duh! :))

    20 A
    9 B
    9 C
    9 D
    7 E

    A B C and D get the BPS.

Hope this helps people, or at least reduces the number of silly posts.

Bookmark & link to anyone who asks one of the above questions in future 🙂

Should we give Soldado more time for his good fixture run or bring in Lukaku now before price rise? Then I would have 9,6M for Mirallas's replacement... And it would be -4 hit.

    For example:
    Soldado->Lukaku
    Mirallas->Oscar
    -4p

    Goalkeeper Assists

With 2 assists for goalkeepers this weekend, I've decided to do a bit of statistical research into how often they've occurred this season and how likely they are to occur again.

    Guzan - 540 minutes played - 0G 1A
    Howard - 495 minutes played - 0G 1A

For the sake of credibility, it is worth noting that these are the only keepers in the game to have obtained an assist. What is clearly significant however, is that Howard has played 45 minutes less than Guzan, making it clearer than ever that Guzan is getting into more attacking positions this season. One advantage that Howard has over Guzan however, is his superior goal record – notching his first goal in a 1-2 league defeat against Bolton a few seasons ago.

Another statistic worth taking into consideration is the fact that both keepers are American. It would appear then, that the same instinctive willingness to attack which runs through certain Americans, like Obama for instance, also runs through this pair. Looking at further statistics, it can also be noticed that Americans populate 50% of the EPL's list for goalkeeper scorers. Alongside Howard, fellow Yank Brad Friedel also notched a screamer against Charlton in 2004.

With two assists for goalkeepers in one weekend it is quite clear that we are witnessing some form of exponential growth in this department. I for one, will have a keen eye on my keeper Mignolet's heat map this weekend, to determine if he carries the same attacking potential as the league's American goalkeepers.

Why wait till tomorrow when he'll be 0.1m more?

I've just done that exact move

    Scotty's Army.

Many may wonder who he is, and where he came from.

    Simple, he is a magician.

Appears when he gets a good score (owned Suarez + Sturridge this week) and disappears when he does poorly.

    😆

Ok, I need to get two defenders out, and two in:
    Zabaleta / Mert / Coleman > Terry / Walker / Sakho

L'pool & Chelsea have excelent fixtures for a while, Tot has two home games in the next 3GWs. Zabaleta is... well, a disappointment. Mert only have one CS in six GWs but I have to get him out if I choose to bring Ramsey (although ok fixtures), and Coleman is so-so.

Repost it again in 5 minutes and see if anyone wants to answer you then 🙄
Never ask why, if people give reasons then great but being asked for them s just rude.
