Fantasy managers are on red alert this evening after Sergio Aguero was forced off after just six minutes of City’s 1-0 home win over Everton. Clearly distraught, the Argentine left the pitch in tears amid fears he’s set to spend a spell on the sidelines and post-match, Manuel Pellegrini could offer little to reassure us.

When quizzed on his star striker’s injury, the City boss could only offer:

“Sergio has a knee ligament problem and we will see tomorrow how serious it is. It is not good news and we will see tomorrow when he [visits the doctor] but he won’t be able to play next week. We must wait for the doctor to see how [bad it is] but the important thing is he won’t be fit for the Roma game. We will see tomorrow, but at the moment, we’re not sure [about the length of the injury].”

City travel to Roma on Wednesday in the Champions League and we can certainly expect an early-week prognosis from Pellegrini, affording us time to re-assess our three-man frontlines ahead of the weekend.

Clearly, if Aguero has indeed suffered ligament damage, our worst fears will be realised and could force him out of contention for some time. The South American has lit up the Premier League with 14 goals and three assists and proven the most reliable captaincy contender around – with a goal or assist in 10 of his 15 appearances, Aguero’s explosive potential has seen him serve up hauls of 19, 13 and 16 points in the last eight Gameweeks.

In spite of his displays for Chelsea, Diego Costa, by comparison, has produced a top score of seven points from Gameweek 5 onwards. Whilst the Blues striker is the obvious alternative if Aguero is ruled out, his inability to earn bonus makes him a less appealing captaincy contender. Indeed, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez suffering since moving out wide and Eden Hazard yet to score away from home, Aguero’s possible absence would make the armband conundrum that little bit more difficult in any given Gameweek, as our heavy-hitters struggle for consistency.

Up front, Aguero’s withdrawal came on a day that eight of 14 teams failed to find the net – underlying the paucity of options for our three-man frontlines right now. Charlie Austin’s fine form continued only for the R’s frontman to be sent off against Burnley, leaving the likes of Wilfried Bony, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie the chance to stake a claim for consideration over the next couple of days’ action. Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic could prove unlikely heroes for City but bearing in mind that Aguero has played a part in 65% of his side’s goals when on the pitch this season, the pair have big shoes to fill.

Perhaps we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves but Aguero’s previous when it comes to injuries has many owners understandably on edge. Given that City now face Leicester, Palace, West Brom, Burnley and Sunderland in successive matches, we’ll hold fire for now in the hope that Pellegrini’s initial prognosis was wide of the mark but exit plans will be tentatively penciled in as we eagerly await the next update.

No idea who to replace Kun with for a hit... Dzeko? Rooney? Bentekke? Costa (I have Hazard)? Or I could not take a hit and play Duff...

I think I'm going Bony, Tekkers or Lukaku and using the rest of the money to upgrade my squad (for rotation, etc).

I'm keeping Austin too. Just feel I need to upgrade my fifth mid (Boyd) and my back up defenders when rotation starts to kick in.

Posted this earlier but wanted to reach another crowd.

I want to point out that while we all look forward to these double gameweeks, it can come at a cost, especially for the clubs playing in Europe. We anticipate many goals and assists but sometimes we fail to weigh the physical toll put on these athletes. 5 intense games in a period of 14 days along with their daily training routine is proving to be too much for even the most the athletic players. We expect performance every game, but yet give no time to arguably the most important part, recovery.

3 out of 7 games ending 0-0 may be indicative of being drained or worn out.

Watching Chelsea take the first step back this season, maybe due exhaustion.

You may be able to argue the same for Arsenal, who got run over by a mediocre Stoke side nearly 10 seconds into the game.

I've been watching Sanchez for 9+ years, and he looked incredibly weary today. He wasn't making his usual runs off the ball or chasing down defenders like he normally does. The miss after taking on three defenders and the keeper was just a last second lapse in concentration, most likely due to fatigue.

Even Hazard looked a bit vulnerable today, as he lost possession of the ball several times which is not like him at all.

Although, San(c)hez didn't turn out so bad after all, I honestly feel for Aguero owners and captainers. I rather be behind the couch every week he plays than to see him go down like that in tears. When you see someone of the caliber of Aguero go straight down without being touched, just proves that his knee completely gave out on him. These are by far the worst injuries and I can't picture him coming back this calendar year. I am assuming the doctors were not able to perform an MRI due to the extensive swelling caused by the injury. They will probably have to drain his knee before any determination can be made.

Of course he is not alone.

Baines. ADM. Rooney. Aguero. Jovetic. Kompany Silva are just a few that come to mind.

Its no coincidence that all these bodies are showing clear signs of wear and tear.

What a terrible week indeed. Good luck with your transfers all.

This has probably be mentioned heaps on here but just woke up, disappointing news about Aguero from a Liverpool supporter (from a non-fantasy perspective), losing the best player in the league. is there any clear indication that it will be jovetic or dzeko that will start in kun's place?
    or
if no clear indication, best bet is jovetic right?

I'll be doing the first two. Fabregas to Hazard depends on your individual circumstances.

Is Costa price protected or not?

Have exactly the right amount to do Chadli & Aguero to Yaya & Costa but would obviously rather wait.

Aguero and Chadli > Costa and Downing? (-4)

    Only problem is, no City.

So go Yaya & sakho as an alternative? Still leaves you 0.7 itb

was going to wait. Aguero sort of helps me out because I could spread his money to strengthen but would rather have The little master for obvious reasons.

Most people have more pressing problems than Austin - and will just bench him for next week
