A imo, Baines is looking great & could be a great short term punt

I'd leave some wiggle room for a Costa ---> Aguero move next week
Silva out would also be in the works

Just get rid of Eriksen man. As long as Chadli is in the team, he won't do too well from an FPL perspective.

Good point, this might be a great week to get rid of Silva for AdM

Touche, in any case, both Silva & Eriksen churn out to be ppor FPL prospects when both Aguero & Chaldi are out on the pitch.

The former marginalized to the wings & to his usual role of assisting the assister. While the former declines in form when Chadli's at the ready. Granted there's less field notes for the latter, but it's still a pattern.

I think Eriksen can do more damage imo

    Hutton, Chadli, ADM

    Bertrand, Downing, Sterling

This gw can be thrown away to the bin.

The bell curve is so narrow, almost everyone got 45-50 points or very close to that.
Only if you had less than 35 or more than 60 you actually have a reason to be sad/happy - and from what I saw there are very few of those.

Not really, unless you are talking H2H matches.

For overall rankings, this looks like a throwaway week (AdM or Rooney could change that) as we wait to see how people go about with Aguero in their teams.

It's been the case for months now, can't see why people would keep him.
Ings, Berhaino, Kane all outscored him this week.
They're all sub 6.0m players. Some are almost half his price 😯

      1. President John F. Keninnsie
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 3 months ago

I think the fear of not owning him is what puts people off selling him. His high ownership (and memories of earlier this season) mean we're all hesitant to ditch. However, fortune favours the brave and, although it doesn't sound too attractive on paper, Austin is clearly the better pick when taking price and stats into consideration.

In my opinion, their last six matches comparison is skewed by Austin's hattrick. That isn't going to happen everyday.

Austin has scored 13 goals (including a hat-trick) so far, Costa has scored 15 (including a hat-trick). Austin has picked up enough assist and bonus points to still be outscoring him in FPL and costs 5m less. I can't see anything skewed here, not after 21 games of the season.

You can't trust QPR (Therefore Austin) though.

            • 10 Years
            9 years, 3 months ago

If QPR score it's very likely to be Austin though. The same can't really be said for Costa. Penalties also swing it in Austin's favour. Also, Mourinho has a tendency to tighten up in the second half of the season - he'd take a 1-0 or 2-0 win any day of the week.

QPR will be in a relegation scrap for the rest of the season. They need points. Points come from getting results. Results come from getting goals. Goals come from... Austin 😉 Seriously though, QPR's attacking tactics really make Austin a great pick. He's the top scoring striker for a reason.

I do think that QPR are going to fall down the table in the coming months, I don't think Austin will keep up his consistent scoring. He hasn't scored a goal from open play since his hat trick almost a month ago. QPR have lost all their games away this season and have been dominated in all of them. They also only have 1 home game remaining against a team in the bottom half of the league this season (NEW GW 37) Their tough fixtures begin now.

They don't need to win games, just score goals. Costa scored a goal in a 2-0 win and got no bonus points (yet again), Austin scored a goal in a 1-2 loss and yet picked up 2 bonus points. Like I said, the season is 21 games old, do you expect them to fall over suddenly?

            Two separate entities imo
One would've said the same about City when they were looking dire, but Aguero still managed to carry the team.

Apples to Oranges imo, there's a good argument in any case because obviously Austin's form & QPR's form coincide. Yet, Kane scored today in what looked like an abysmal affair.

And good away games, so no problem. Austin has scored against Chelsea, Arsenal, Southampton and City regardless.

QPR will score in most home games. Also, Austin's away record isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Yes QPR can't win on the road but that's more down to their leaky defence as opposed to their lack of goals.

Exactly. And no-one ever says the same thing about Costa even though only he has only scored 1 more goal than Austin away from home - 9 of 13 at home for Austin, 10 of 15 at home for Costa.

Given my dodgy defence this week, can Aguero wait a week? Best option here?

    A) Silva & Austin -> Albrighton & Aguero
    B) Debuchy & Costa -> Reid/Luis & Aguero
    C) Debuchy & Austin -> Baines & Ings
    D) Debuchy & Chambers -> Baines & Wasilewski

    Plan to WC next week

    Bank 1.4m, 2 FT

    Hart
    Terry, Hutton, Debuchy
    Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, Eriksen, Downing
    Costa, Kane

    Elliot, Austin, Hutton, Chambers

    Guzan, Gilks (Weak)
Zabaleta, Cahill, Wisdom, Naylor, Clyne (Have had 4/5 of these from the start)
Hazard, Sanchez, Siggy, Sterling, Downing (Will def be keeping Haz, Sanc, Siggy)
Austin (6.1), Costa (11.1), Kane (Time to bring in Aguero- I want to stick with Costa so either Kane or Austin out)

    2 Ft's, 3.0 in account.. 2 WC's if that is any help.

    1. Aguero/Boyd in for Austin/Sterling..
    2. Aguero- Costa and 1 more FT (Maybe change Cahill/ Zaba to Baines) Short term Punt Before WC.
    3. Something else..
    4. Unleash My 1st WC.

Thinking of Option 2, with Baines in..

As for Arsenal, with almost everybody fit now, we are looking at

    ----------------------Szczesny
    --Debuchy--Koscielny---Mertesacker--Gibbs
    ---------Coquelin/Flamini---Ramsey
    --Walcott---------Ozil/Cazorla--------Sanchez
    ---------------------------Giroud

That's a darn good team, honestly.

I completely agree, Chambers just isn't good enough to be regularly filling in. He's one for the future. I quite like Laporte, similar to Koscielny in ways. But perhaps Winston Reid would suffice until the summer.

Morning DZ, moved up to my highest ever rank of 39 yesterday! 😀

Looking forward to hearing from you all regarding this team:

    Foster

    Ivanovic/Skrtel/Zabaleta

    Sterling/Hazard/Di Maria/Alexis

    Austin/Costa/Kane

    (Fabianski/Boyd/Wasilewski/Hutton)

    1 FT, 1.3 banked

Planning to wildcard after game week 23. Keepers don't rotate well for the next two game weeks. Worth doing Fabianski to De Gea for free this week?

Ok, Costa vs. Austin people here's one for you!

So, it's GW38 you've got a 3pt lead in your ML rival, now do you...

    A) Give the armband to Costa home to Sunderland

    B) Give the armband to Austin away to Leicester

Note: The answer is Costa & its Costa most weeks because Austin has scored away to Southampton, Arsenal, & Chelsea... Oh, & don't forget his goal vs. City at Loftus Road.
    He's near impossible to predict.

Now, assess their value again when you can double Costa's PPM vs. Austin's.

Oh, in before... *I'd just captain Aguero, duh!* or *I captained Austin for his hattrick so your argument is invalid.*

Sure, great so did I but in the end, it's Costa's ability to *never* blank home or away that makes him so valuable to us...
Because, ultimately it's more important not to blank each week than it is to hit a home run with your captain.

You are such a w&*nker Gilly Billmore.
Never a nice or constructive thing to say & honestly it reflects in your overall rank...

If you tried to actually contribute rather than attempting to craft a *Gotcha* comment, I bet you'd get a lot more out of this site.

        Example from last week:
I bring up moving the start times of football matches, like they to in North America, to better suit the TV audience & you reply:
*They're not aired in England idiot... So, what's the point?*

I in turn, reminded you of the millions of people around the globe that tune in every week & then, strangely I don't hear another word from you on the subject... 🙂

Similarly, outside of calling me *dumb* without anything to back it up... you got something constructive to say on the Costa v. Austin debate or you just going to continue being a c0ck?

Wow, I'm the w*nker and there you go bringing overall rank into the debate (of which we have very similar histories, but sure enough because you're doing well this season you bring it up)

Way to ignorantly paraphrase me too (of which numerous others made the exact same comment). Would've replied to you had I realised you replied back but the page turned and I didn't notice.

I've been making my case *constructively* on this site for the past few weeks and didn't feel the particular necessity to repeat everything that Innsie and Fitzy were discussing above (which I agree with wholeheartedly). The mere fact they're being compared at all speaks volumes when you can get one of them for 5m less.

The majority of people think Hazard is a better captaincy option than Costa. The reality is not many people are going to captain Costa if Aguero is fit and/or if Hazard maintains his form. Costa is 5m more expensive than Austin, who has the added bonus of penalty duties, as well as being the main attacking outlet of a side that is set up primarily to score his goals. When you look at the upgrades that Austin over Costa allows to the rest of your team, there's one clear winner in my eyes.

Also, compare their stats in the members area. There's nothing in it, so why pay 11m when you can have similar (or slightly worse) returns for 6m?

Hazard is still not an *away* captain's choice.
A *few* goals recently away from the Bridge don't change 2 1/2 seasons of that trend.

As for the bonus, sure I get it but, a goal a week with the *potential* for a hatrick is pretty hard to pass up...

        Also, why not both!
My front line of Aguero, Costa & Austin has served me just fine, thank you very much! 🙂

PS. Nothing wrong with having Hazard & Costa too, yeah?

I'm comparing the ability to have confidence in giving an armband to a player.
        Home or away most weeks.
Costa gives us that, Austin does not.
        That's it, that's all...

Why do you see Costa as a viable captain when he's playing away? He's only scored one more goal than Austin has away from home, and only has 4 more points from his away games despite playing one more game than Austin.

One goal & four points > One less goal & four less points

            Whatever, let's get this straight...
            I have NOTHING against Austin!
            I bought him in GW13.
I captained him for his hattrick vs. WBA.
I didn't sell him for Kane this week b/c I *knew* the stats he'd been producing & that he had a great shot to score vs. BUR this wknd.

I just feel that Costa's value rises with the armband factor.

Much like Aguero, Suarez, & RVP they all have a terrible PPM relative to a 5.5mil defender but, when we factor their ability to have the captaincy without even looking at the fixture most weeks it needs to be worked into the equation...

In the end, why not both?

            1. Fitzy.

"One goal & four points > One less goal & four less points"

As I said, Costa has played one more away game than Austin to get that 4 points. I still fail to see Costa as a captaincy option except on rare occasions where he'd get it by default because of some other circumstances.

Ok I get it, you clearly you see this as only a black & white matter.
                No Costa ever; only Austin.

Conversely, I see some shades of grey...
Costa & Austin can both help my team on their own way.

With that said, I'll end this here.

I would be extremely unlikely to captain Costa. I tend to favour those with a greater likelihood for explosive returns. I don't consider 6pts to be good value for a captain. Now because I don't see Costa as a captaincy option he no longer justifies his price and for that reason he isn't particularly essential. Not a bad option if you want regular returns but I'd argue you can get more by using the cash elsewhere

        > I would be extremely unlikely to captain Costa. I tend to favour those with a greater likelihood for explosive returns.

They have a similar amount of points & a hatrick each so, there's not much between them there.

        > I don't consider 6pts to be good value for a captain. Now because I don't see Costa as a captaincy option he no longer justifies his price and for that reason he isn't particularly essential.

Never said essential or that I'd prefer to NOT own Austin in favour of Costa.
(In fact, Costa, Aguero & Austin served me well for many weeks)

Ultimately, a Chelsea striker offers a consistency that a QPR striker cannot.
So, if it came down to my ML crown in the final week, I'd be most comfortable giving the armband to a striker from the better side.

TBF I wasn't making a comparison with Austin. I'm unlikely to captain Austin too for the points you described (although I did captain him for his hattrick). And even if I did captain him he's at least more likely to get bonus points so if he scores it'd likely be at least 8pts.

I'm making a statement about Costa's captaincy credentials. I can say with total confidence that he is a bad captaincy choice in any given game week.

Firstly. If you have owned Austin for the remainder of the season rather than Costa then the lead in your minileague will be far higher than the measly 3pts you are looking forward to. But yes lets continue with such a ridiculous assumption reducing your question to the one week where the argument may fall in your favour.

Now you have a 3pt lead, and you are suggesting captaining Costa to get the likely 6pts. So you are relying on your rivals captain getting 7pts or less. Again we make the highly dubious assumption that all else is equal. Given that if you have Costa you have scrimped elsewhere and probably dont have Terry for his GW38 hattrick, but nevertheless lets continue.

Now if I was your rival I would captain Austin just to piss you off. GW38 away to Leicester with both teams relying on the three points. With such a crucial match the whole QPR team steps up and Austin bags a brace. I take the 13pts and go home laughing to take the mini league cash price.

Fortunately I also buggumarked this post so you can enjoy an entire year of reminiscing.

There is your full answer you;ve been begging for above. Sure the simple answer of "your post makes no sense" would have sufficed, but hey I'm feeling generous.

So, I'm going to skip to the end b/c your rant gets rather specific towards the middle there. (Piss me off? *giggle* You're cute when you're getting all worked up about the Fake Football)

Anyway, let me dumb this down a shade for you:

I feel part of Costa's value is overlooked in that we feel more comfortable giving a Chelsea striker the armband most weeks over someone from say, QPR.

        Final Note:
        I've got nothing against Austin!
I bought him GW13 on my WC & will keep him in my Jan WC squad too.
I captained him for his hatrick vs. WBA.
I played him away to Arsenal.
I even kept him this week when many sold, b/c his underlying stats remained strong despite his recent run of blanks.

So, bookmark this too while you're at it too because, this isn't an *either or* discussion we're having.
I see value in owning each player...

Everything about this post was pro-Austin post...until the conclusion. I'm confused!!

You highlight "Costa's ability to never blank"...by comparing him to a player who has scored vs Southampton, Chelsea, Arsenal, and City!? A player who can score against those teams is a strong candidate for not blanking.

He's had 5 big chances and only converted 1, so those last two blanks were unlucky to say the least.

        Also while we're at it.

        Aguero 4 blanks, 6.6 ppg.

        Costa 4 blanks, 5.7 ppg.

For now I happily own both, but be cautious to captain either!

Costa's teammates are better, and Austin burned me last week 😛

      I added them up 🙂

in the 16 GWks where they both start.

Times captaining Costa was correct: 8
Times captaining Austin was correct: 8

The only thing you can conclusively say from these stats is that you should own Charlie Austin.

        points scored:

        Austin: 87

Now look back & see how many times you gave Costa the armband & Austin the armband?

Add up the *actual* amount of points they scored for your team...

Now, I lucked out & captained them both for their respective hatricks but, idk if I've ever given the armband to Austin over Costa in a 50/50 type decision?

eg. Like the fake scenario I brought up earlier...
If you had a 3pt lead going into the final week of the season; would you feel more comfortable giving Chelsea or QPR the armband?

        Ahh, but hindsight is 20/20.

How many of those weeks would you have felt *more comfortable* giving Austin the armband over a striker from Chelsea?

In the end, that's the point of all this:
Costa has much better teammates, will therefore be a part of more goals & is therefore, easier to captain. (I saw you touched on this in an earlier post so thank you.)

They've got the same amount of points but, it's simply easier to give Costa the armband so that should be noted when we're discussing his value.

PS. I'm very happy to own both as well. 🙂

Morning all. Thoughts on the team?
    Foster
    Terry Clyne PvA Hutton Baird
    Hazard Sanchez Cesc AdM Boyd
    Kun Kane Austin

    2.5m ITB. Should I..
    A) Hutton -> Premium def
    B) Boyd -> Siggy/Chadli
    C) Austin -> Giru/Pelle

        My WC team actually.

Was planning to WC on GW 23 too but too many rises and money seemed tight so pulled it last night.

But yeah previously I still had Sterling (Baines and Ings) as my pre WC punt

    Guzan, Gilks
    Zabaleta, Cahill, Wisdom, Naylor, Clyne
    Hazard, Sanchez, Siggy, Sterling, Downing
    Austin (6.1), Costa (11.1), Kane

    2 Ft's, 3.0 in account..
2 WC's if that is any help.

    1. Aguero- Costa ( can get back later in WC). Can change either Zaba/Cahill to Baines for punt.
    2. Aguero/Boyd- Austin/Sterling
    3. WILDCARD- 1st of 2.

    Ranked around 1000 atm..
    Was 150 before Christmas tho!!

    RMT? 😉

    Foster, Panti
    Terry, Alderiweirald, Hutton, Wisdom, PVA
    Downing, Silva, Sanchez, Hazard, Boyd
    Costa, Aguero, Kane

    0.2 ITB

0.1 of Silva --> ADM. Who do I downgrade?
    Thinking Hutton --> Cameron?

      It's a trick question

Elmo has played more than 90 mins every match but was subbed off in gameweek 7 after 92 mins.
According to sterling he was "tired".
