Community

The Community Round Up

Despite having a double Gameweek looming, the community was more preoccupied with the fitness of our players on international duty and replacements for some notable long-term injury victims in goal. The failure of some top stars to live up to their lofty valuations was another concern as was the effect of player price in our managerial decisions. In our Members Tables section, we take a closer look at the double Gameweek options for those willing to take a punt. As ever we also catch up on the latest ups and downs in our community tournaments, including the launch of an exciting team-based competition.

The Community Articles

Our community article section was dominated this week with the announcement from the FFS UEFA group of their latest team based tournament for the community. Check in on the latest updates from those looking to recruit members to this competition, which is themed around the Cricket World Cup.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Double Gameweek has not gripped the community this week, with slender pickings among the ranks of relegation-threatened QPR and Aston Villa. In our discussion on Gameweek 31, Ruth NZ revealed he is to go commando and avoid all players with two matches that week.

Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke is one of the better options for the forthcoming double Gameweek but the community is divided as to whether even he is worth shipping in. Barryyuen thinks he could be a good differential for those without QPR’s Charlie Austin, while Somalion believes Villa are going to let people down in Gameweek 31.

For many, though, there are more pressing concerns in goal, with popular picks Fraser Forster and Ben Foster ruled out for the season. In our discussion on goalkeeper options Doolittle recommends West Brom’s cut-price reserve keeper Boaz Myhill, while La Roja is looking to draft in Southampton reserve keeper Kelvin Davis.

Another priority is checking on the fitness and air miles of our players on international duty. Fortunately Zasa was on hand with this guide to the most-owned players’ itinerary.

Many are also looking to shake up their midfield, with previous favourites such as Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Raheem Sterling failing to deliver in recent weeks. In Saniul’s discussion on whether Juan Mata is viable option, Walsh was among those to sing the praises of the Manchester United midfielder.

A key factor in so many managers’ decision to ditch Alexis Sanchez is the fear of benching a player with a premium price tag. This was a theme Sheikh Holmes #GWSDoos picked up on in his discussion on how much price effects our management decisions.

Despite his budget price tag, Harry Kane continues to remain a strong captaincy favourite and seemingly unbenchable. It was no surprise to see him mentioned frequently in Jay1042’s discussion on the first players on our team sheet next season. There were further options for next season discussed in D1sable‘s look ahead to the summer.

A key change this season in posts has been around the bonus point system, with far less criticism of the FPL’s allocation during 2014/15. The system’s successes this year as well as proposals for further tweaks next term were the focus of this hot topic.

Finally, Beric popped by with a latest update on the health of community veteran Doosra, who is showing signs of recovery. To pay tribute to our missing community member Innsie unveiled his Doosra poem.

The Members Tables

For those looking to take advantage of QPR and Aston Villa’s double Gameweek I’ve constructed a pair of tables looking at their best assets. These have a global filter and are sorted by shots in the box, a key indicator of goal scoring promise. My QPR table can be found here, while the Aston Villa table can be accessed here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

In the FFS Old Farts Club league Dan Clark continues to lead, while Ross Gillard retains top spot in the Top 1,000 Any Season league. Greenwindmill continues at the summit of the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league and has also taken the lead in the main league of the Long and Winding Road competition.

Not sure that the article answers this particular question but you obviously have your own interpretation of 'better' which is fair enough, it is very subjective. I'm not claiming Spurs have spent wisely but you also have to look at what you comparing. Being in Europe both creates revenue but requires a bigger squad at additional cost

              Point taken.
Its just that Southampton and to an extent Swansea have given small clubs a blueprint to follow, which allows them to be financially stable and compete with the top half of the table.
Even based on performances i would say that soton are better-not that spurs aren't performing but they are damn inconsistent and switch off in every third or fourth game. Soton more consistent.
Star power and player profile wise, spurs are better. Historically too.

The article was one i had written and wanted to share, nothing to do with southampton or spurs being better.

i agree with Swansea in particular. With the chaos at the start of this season at soton I'd suggest the owners should consider themselves very lucky that it all clicked so well. Spurs have been badly managed for years. But I expect them to finish above soton by end of season and for future seasons as well.

you are correct with that assessment-they were also lucky to get Koeman but i can't seeing them do this every season-more like fiorentina-yoyo between top and mid table

                    • 9 Years

Southampton aren't yo-yoing between top and mid-table. They are just varying between upper mid-table and lower mid-table. They won't finish above 6th, probably 7th. And they aren't anywhere near as good as Spurs fundamentally as will be evident next season.

In addition, Southampton and Swansea have not "given small clubs a blueprint to follow". Basically they have been selling their best players and replacing them from their youth or with astute buys. Smaller clubs have been doing that for a long time. It works for a while, then they get relegated.

The underlying stats have convinced me - Glen Murray is the truth. But do I bring him in for Kun or Giroud, and this GW or next? I'm wildcarding in week 34 so it's just a short term punt.

Giroud has Liverpool and Burnley, then blank.
Kun has Palace, Man United and West Ham.
Murray has Man City, Sunderland and West Brom.

Home game for Arsenal, Skertl away, Giroud in form...well, makes it difficult to decide. Bringing Austin probably means taking hits later...so that lessens the 'dgw advantage'?

        1. Sunny 😎
          • 11 Years
          9 years, 1 month ago

The problem is that bringing in Austin means spending a FT and then another one to take him out. So that means this one transfer will cost us 2 FTs.

I'd rather take out Aguero for him if I have to, Giroud is in pretty good form. But not sure if spending 2 FTs on Austin is worth it. I could instead sell Bellerin with one of my FT which will be used on Austin and set my team up for the long haul

Exactly so, that's what I am thinking currently as weel. The problem is, that if Austin gets his coversion rate up in those two games, makes a couple of goals (look at his shooting stats...)+gets bp's and at the same time a lot of people captain him, you have a problem. The captaincy question is one thing consider as well...the ownership in top 1k and top 10k will be probably be quite high. In this scenario you really need Giroud to play well, and your captain (Kane, Hazard, etc.)to get points as well.

            1. Sunny 😎
              • 11 Years

Yeah, I haven't checked Austin's top 1k ownership stats yet but if they are high then I'll probably bring him in. I saw his shooting stats and that's what scares me and as you said if he gets his conversion rate up, he could be in for a haul.

But I still won't get rid of Giroud for him. Aguero who is out of form looks like a better option to ditch right now.

Try Baird as the first choice, but sure if he plays at all. In that case you take the 'cameo'risk. Bellerin might be playing, but fixture is not that easy. Ok, no Sturridge, so a cleansheet is possible when Arsenal is playing at home.

Are either of these moves worth it with the team below? Or just save FT? 1.6m itb.

    Foster Green
    Terry Kos Ivanovic Rose Lescott
    Hazard Mane Eriksen Silva Boyd
    Aguero Austin Kane

Boyd > Phillips/Sinclair or Aguero > Benteke (depending on fitness - 1 week punt). Way behind in my MLs.

    C both above

    Panti (foster)
    Ivan Bertrand Hutton (ballerin cresswell)
    Mane eriksen hazard silva (boyd)

Just seen your actually query above. I probably would go with Schlupp especially with 2 frees if there aren't many pressing moves you need to make. Bellerin's place is certainly looking dodgy.

Sterling seemed quite upset when the interviewer was going on about Kane scoring on his debut when he himself had just scored his very first England goal.

    Unlucky.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Best ever international football moment.

Harry Kane's debut goal after just 78 seconds is one of the best debuts in England's international football history. It was certainly his favourite international football moment, but what is yours?

Nah, I think the Baggies have a much higher chance of a clean sheet than Saints. The 2 QPR players are there for the double chance at getting something and will be a bonus of they do.
