Saido Berahino bags a brace as West Brom sweep aside newly-crowned champions Chelsea at the Hawthorns. Chris Brunt is also amongst the goals, whilst Cesc Fabregas sees red as the Blues lose for only the third time this term.

Blues pay the penalty for complacency

Chelsea fell to a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion as their 16-match unbeaten run came crashing to an end. Despite suggesting he would field a number of young players at the Hawthorns, Jose Mourinho made just three alterations to his starting XI, drafting in Diego Costa, Gary Cahill and Nemanja Matic in place of Kurt Zouma, John Obi Mikel and Willian.

Costa’s inclusion came as a slight surprise given that Mourinho previously stated he would only field the Spain international again this campaign if the Blues were in desperate need of his services. The Portuguese boss clearly deemed him fit enough to start and was vindicated when Costa came through his 63-minute stint unscathed. Spearheading the champions’ attack – with Loic Remy shifted out to the right flank – Costa looked rusty on his return and couldn’t fashion a single attempt on goal.

Mourinho resisted the temptation to rest Eden Hazard for the Baggies encounter, maintaining the Belgian livewire’s 100% appearance record in the league. Hazard drew a blank for the second successive fixture following Chelsea’s title win, yet the London club’s home tie against Sunderland on the final day should convince owners to keep faith with the PFA Player of the Year.

Cesc Fabregas’ 30% ownership were left bemused when the deep-lying playmaker kicked the ball into a congregation of West Brom players – hitting Chris Brunt on the back of the head – during a break in play. Fabregas was awarded a red card for the bizarre incident and will now sit out the Black Cats tie in addition to the first two matches of next season. His absence could persuade owners to reinvest the funds from his sale and recruit one of Manchester City’s high-priced in-form midfielder (Yaya Toure and David Silva) ahead of their home clash against Southampton.

The Blues have now conceded four times and scored once since clinching the title and with Mourinho admitting his side have eased off since securing the trophy, some may even consider swapping out their Chelsea assets, with the Blues showing little motivation in last night’s lacklustre display.

Berahino nets brace in Baggies triumph

Having been recalled to the side in place of Victor Anichebe, Saido Berahino netted for the first time in eight starts, including a second-half spot-kick. Chris Brunt scored the hosts’ third of the night with a rasping near-post shot that Thibaut Courtois arguably should have dealt with better. The Northern Irish midfielder is enjoying a strong finish to the campaign, with one goal and four assists in six starts, and is clearly enjoying his move back into midfield, with Joleon Lescott fielded at left-back again.

The Baggies’ defence continues to impress under Tony Pulis’ governance, following their fourth clean sheet in five outings. Impressively, the midlands side have also kept out United, Liverpool and Palace over that period. Tony Pulis’ men face an uphill in their attempt to secure another shut-out on the final day when they travel to the Emirates. That being said, the fact that the Gunners failed to score in their past two home encounters offers some reason for optimism. On the flip side, Arsenal’s recent formidable defensive record at home (two goals conceded in five) does limit out interest in Berahino despite his upturn in form.

Cech to Arsenal a done deal according to the Secret Footballer.

He has also said that Spurs new club shop in Stevenage doesn't feature any pictures of Lloris, only Vorm. Could be Lloris to United if De Gea moves to Madrid.

I have also heard that Arsenal will be in for Sterling with City also keen. Talk of a part-exchange with Liverpool for Walcott, but Liverpool not keen on another injury prone player.

I hope he's getting paid well to sit on another bench.

Chesney will go but Ospina has earned his spot.

Dave Kitson allegedly, but I guess an ex-pro with connection in the footballing world could be reliable. He called the Defoe deal to Sunderland, Odegaard to Madrid and Neil new Norwich boss in January.

Interestingly in January he also said that Schneiderlin would move to Arsenal this summer.

Hi Guys. Squeaky bum time. Currently 14 points clear in ML, with this for next week:

    GIVEN (Panti)
    Terry SHLUPP DUFF
    Hazard SILVA Ramsey SANCHEZ
    KANE AGUERO GIROUD

Caps are players my rival and I share (although he has Vlaar/Schmiecel to my Villa/Leicester)

Any clear transfers? Giroud to Tekkers seems sideways, as does Kane to Vardy...

He has Coutinho/Ozil v my Hazard/Ramsey - worth covering him?

    Would appreciate any thoughts...

Steven Gerrard must of said to Raheem Sterling .. " Son if you want to win the league then take my word for it and leave Liverpool "

Makes sense that the he would want to move to a club that can challenge for the title every season and not just a Europa League player.

Can you think of any title challenging side that would benifit from having him? I cant.

He should stop being selfish and actually try to win things with Liverpool. On the back of this season he's not even good enough for Liverpool never mind a club who can win a top league -

      Juve
      Bayern
      Roma
      PSG
      Barca
      Real
      Atletico

Sterling definitely wouldnt have sucj stats for a top 4 team as he wont be nailed on

Anyone else need a miracle to catch up their rivals? I'm 44 points behind with 5 to play (of which 3 are diffrentials: Sanchez/PvA/Wickham). So basically I need a Sanchez hat trick.

I seem to bench the wrong players quite often (Rose this week). What team would you field for the last week? Who would you bench?

    Keep: Migs | Davis K.
Def: Terry | Kolarov | Belerin | Rose | PvA
Mid: Hazard | Sanchez | Silva | Cazorla | Walters
Att: Vardy | Aguero | Wickham

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Yesterday we looked at options to replace Kane and good Gwk striker punts in general. Today I thought I'd ask about midfield punts.

Who have you got that you want to replace? Too may Arsenal midfielders for example?

Which midfielder would you like to bring in? A reliable heavy hitter like Silva? Or a punt like a Puncheon or Bolasie with a good fixture.

Feel free to leave your tips for midfield punts here.

I'm desperate to lose Sterling, what a horrible DGW pick he was. Haven't looked too hard yet though, I'm sure there are others taking up valuable spots and giving me nothing.

Silva is a possible replacement but Southampton aren't likely to get smashed in my opinion so I'm hoping a 'clever' left field option emerges.

Looking at shipping one Arsenal player, probably Giroud. But depends on general opinion on who's likely to be rested. Choice is between Hazard, Bolasie, Puncheon and Young I guess. Hazard would need a hit though - or swap for Sanchez if unlikely to play

Coutinho for me, frustrating to own recently and can see Stoke keeping Liverpool out.

Would love to buy Silva but 22 behind ML leader who owns him so can't, will probably go for a United midfielder as Hull away seems a solid fixture.

Fixtures to me are the key to punts, really good ones hold the potential for even the poorest in form to jolt to life, it's guaranteed though, they are called punts for a reason.

Swansea mid (Sigurdsson/Montero) or United mid (Mata/Fellaini/Young) look best to me.

Palace seem erratic and a lot of their better performances under Pardew have been away from Selhurst Park. So I wouldn't go for Puncheon/Bolasie/Zaha.

somebody needs to sit Sterling down and play him back a video of all the thousand scuffed, sliced or under hit shots he has amassed this season. I swear Ive seen hit a ball cleanly maybe only 3 times. Everything about his technique is wrong, the main problem being that he's too in front of the ball and therefore unable to get any real purchase on it whatsoever. I cant recall too many players that are so strong in most areas and so incredibly deficient in this one in particular (and its not just shooting, crossing and his final ball is poor for these same reasons). Take the money and run us what id say, let him rot on citys bench or reals b team. Jordan Ibe will be a way better player anyway.

100% agreed mate, we should have beat ManU at OT, Sterling had about 4 one on ones with the keeper and put 2 wide of target! If he re-signs, they really need to work hard on his composure.

Sterling isn't that great. He's a player who developed quickly and got to PL standard early, that is it. I was saying this last season as well, when a lot of people ignored the impact Suarez had on him.

I think he's good, with his searing pace, his biggest attribute, but he has a serious lack of composure in front of goal. That can improve, He frequently gets into big chance goal scoring positions but consistently fluffs his lines. Playing week in week out, will help improve him.

        1. Somalion

Attitude is what I dislike about him tbh. I'm fully in support of what Carra was saying, if he's wanting to win trophies and earn massive money, he has to put in the performances in big matches. And, as Carra said, he was nowhere to be seen in the CL or the semi fungal with Villa.

As for his attributes, he can play at PL standard. Pace is good but not something to rely on as it fades, especially with injury. His finishing is woeful. But then he's had a lot of game time this season, and a good deal playing up top, and his finishing has remained woeful.

Pool should ditch him imo, better off in the long run.

Aye, it is tough because I really don't think he's good enough to start every week for a team challenging for the league and the Champion's League.

I suppose City could do with another winger, so he could suit them maybe. Arsenal and Chelsea would have no real use for him. Don't think United would either, or at least I hope so because I really wouldn't like him at the club. So then really unless City are interested, I don't see how leaving Liverpool will be a good thing for him. Pool should milk it for all its worth.

                10 years, 7 months ago

I agree he's still got some way to go but staying at pool' means he'll likely once again be the main guy & at 20 & still far from reaching his potential that's just not fair, people keep banging on about his finishing, well he shouldnt even be up front, it's not his natural position any more than walcott was a winger at the same age, he turned out alright didn't he given time?

he needs the pressure to be taken off him, not increase it, with pool' failing to qualify for the CL it 'll be even harder than last season to sign top players so it'll be all on him to produce, at a top side he can be rotated if he's not in form, he'll be allowed to develope without the huge pressure of carrying a club like he will at liverpool... plus he'll be playing with better players which will improve him as a footballer.

Ozil and Kane to Silva and Cisse. Thoughts?

Historic gametime is limited for Cisse but they will need to go for it on the final day and his stats in the 18 mins he played were actually pretty good.

Worried about losing Ozil at home to WBA but Silva would block a rival
