The Numbers Game – 2014/15 Review – Newcastle United

Newcastle can count themselves a little fortunate remain in the Premier League after their decision to part company with Alan Pardew midway through the previous campaign proved disastrous. Having won seven times and earned 26 points in their first 19 fixtures, the Magpies stuttered to safety under the guidance of John Carver, with three victories and 13 points accrued over the remainder of the season.

In this latest article for members, we assess Newcastle’s faltering campaign, running the rule over their squad in terms of goal threat and creativity ahead of the Steve McClaren era.

Arsenal for lacazette would be a big WOW move. Would screw up walcott as a fpl pick though

if theo gets hardly any game time 1st half of season then he should leave in jan. im surprised none of che, city, utd, liv have tried to get him. I know his injury record is rubbish but he'd be a good signing for all those teams and would probably start more games than he does for arsenal

yeah and then you'd get that stevie G thing last season; a legend on the subs bench which is not ideal. surely rafa will play de gea in la liga and CL. Madrid and barca recently have separate keepers for both but I cant see him being happy with no CL games

Yeah Howard's form suffered a serious dip last season, plus he's 36 now. Ospina's availability would be a good opportunity for Everton to seize imo, especially if he goes for £5-7m.

Does anyone know who I contact if I think I might have discovered a bug in the Monthly filters on the League page?

For anyone curious it seems like some point hits aren't considered when making the monthly score (unless that is by design?). I discovered this just today when I did some preparations for entering monthly money league for next season, thought there was some dodgy numbers, and realized that all my monthly scores added up gave me 16 points more than my overall score.

    1. Ginkapo FPL
      • 12 Years
      8 years, 10 months ago

Yup, you get "free" hits in the first week of a month if the hit was in the preceding month by the actual calendar.

    2. Marknlard
      • 14 Years
      8 years, 10 months ago

If the first gameweek of the month is on the 3rd (for example) then you can make as many point hits as you want leading up to that deadline and they won't be counted. But any points hits made during the month after the first deadline are.

Bit of a weird rule but that's the way it is.

what are the thoughts on Darmian to Man Utd as a potential RB? He can play at CB too so is it possible he will alternate between both spots. Where do you think LVG will play him providing the medical? Not paying too much attention to the rumour of offloading Raf till it actually happens.... if it does

He'll play in his most natural position, RB - Man Utd won't keep playing Valencia at RB for another season.

As a fantasy prospect where would you rate him? Doing research he can be a good goascoring RB and if United spruce up the defense he can possibly keep a few CS's. To me that is all dependant on De Gea staying and a strong CB coming in!

Can't see DDG staying but a CB will come in IMO.

I reckon he'll come in at £6m and, even though there may be alternatives in the United defence at £5.5m, he does seem to carry a decent goal and assist threat.

I wanted coleman and ramos to be the defensive signings. I don't know much about darmian but will check him out. I hope LVG doesn't tinker too much with the back 4. not that keen on our right back sometimes playing CB. he should just stick to his back 4 and perservere with it even if we concede goals early on. the sneiderlin signing will also help shore up the back

Ramos is still a possibility IMO. He's a good CB and DDG is looking likely out. If that is the case we might get him in the deal. I would love DDG to stay but if not we will have to look for him in the deal!

With a lot of discussions regarding potential changes that may occur in the FPL this year, what changes would you like to see?

For me, I would like that they add some other options to the scoring system. + points for completed passes, tackles etc.

I know we have the BPS system, but maybe it would be better to remove it and instead add points for good performances such as pass completion, tackles, dribbles etc...

Collecting albums, but mainly CDs (some vinyl). Have about 600-700, which will no doubt be dwarfed by proper collectors. All started 20 years ago - when I was 4 my Dad bought me Sgt Pepper and Pet Sounds. Education/brainwashing.

Ordinarily stay away from this sort of business, but reliably informed Preki isn't going to Leicester. Club want the fabled "PL experience." @RorySmithTimes

Who do people want as the new Leicester manager in terms of keeping their players as appealing FPL picks

Laudrup or Big Sam for the defence - neither will happen though.

Neil Lennon please. Knows how to organise a defence.

Another FPL when does it open type question.

When the player list does get updated, will it automatically ask you to create a team then? Or do you then have to go to FPL page to click pick team?

    So sad...

You have to go to the FPL page.

Another fantastic community article from The ShoeMaker

Here he looks in depth at the FPL pricing in 2014/15 to discover which price brackets offer the best value.

Looks like they're set to sign Ogbonna so you'd have thought he's a starter and will be partnered by one of Tomkins/Reid.

Europa League Qualifiers should reveal this to us by the start of the season.
