With Gameweek 10 now complete, managers are analysing the upcoming fixtures, dissecting form of players and searching for diamonds in the rough after a relatively low average point total week. With Aguero still out injured, you can assume many managers will be captaining usual suspects such as Alexis Sanchez due to their form and upcoming fixtures. But, who else are viables options for captaincy?
With Arsene Wenger hinting at resting Sanchez for over a week now it will be interesting to see how many minutes he gets in against a mid table Swansea side who interestingly enough have the same point total as Everton.
Olivier Giroud has the best goals to minutes played ratio in the premier league this season making him a key alternative candidate for the captaincy. He is definitely an option up front pending on whether him or Theo Walcott continue the trend of them swapping up front.
Harry Kane is coming off a stellar weekend where he put back three goals against Bournemouth. Could this be the spark Kane needed to re-ignite the his dominance of last season? It very well could be. Spurs are set to face last place Villa, and with a team who just fired their coach, you can expect Villa players to be hard working and energetic with new players wanting to impress the new manager.
Manchester United have a very promising run of fixtures in the next few game weeks. Many managers will be considering bringing in one or two United players into their side. Anthony Martial looked deadly against City playing on the wing and Wayne Rooney in the middle. With the heavy critisicm surround Rooney, Martial could move into the middle once more. A thing to keep in mind with Martial though is that he has managed seven shots in the box in six Premier League games since arriving at United. Compare this to 27 for Vardy and 19 all within the same time period and it doesnt look too impressive. On top of this, in the last six games United have had the least amount of shots in the box of any team (28), just one more than Vardy has managed by himself.
Wilfried Bony is another candidate for this Gameweek’s captain. With only 4% ownership, he could be the player that lifts you ahead in your league tables. The week prior to the 0-0 draw with United, Bony accumulated two goals and an assist for a 16 points total.
Another player in excellent form is Dimitry Payet. He has provided his team with a goal or an assist in eight out of ten games this season and coming up against Watford, you could see him continue his run of good form.
Graziano Pelle is another to consider against a dire Bournemouth defence.
Lastly, a revitalized Liverpool look to take advantage of a down in the dumps Chelsea side. Even though Liverpool have drew the three matches Jurgen Klopp has managed with low scoring games, I expect Christian Benteke and James Milner to have big impacts.
