It’s time once again for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article this Thursday dinnertime. As always, we bring you the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and the watchlist before taking a look at the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 24 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Tottenham vs SunderlandMousa Dembele
Bournemouth vs NorwichCharlie Daniels
Newcastle vs West HamJonjo Shelvey
Chelsea vs EvertonLeighton Baines
Man City vs Crystal PalaceSergio Aguero
Southampton vs West BromJames Ward-Prowse
Stoke vs ArsenalPetr Cech
Swansea vs WatfordAshley Williams
Liverpool vs Man UnitedDavid de Gea
Aston Villa vs LeicesterDaniel Drinkwater

Two goalkeepers, two defenders, five midfielders and one forward picked up the awards this week. Bournemouth’s marauding full-back Charlie Daniels comes in at just 3.7m in the Sky game and has racked up more points (71) than any of his team-mates so far. The downside, however, is that Daniels is listed as a midfielder and therefore ineligible for clean sheet points, though as he won’t be docked points for goals shipped, still presents a valid option at such a cheap price – indeed, he is currently the fourth best value midfielder in the game with 19.2 points per million. Former Fantasy favourite Leighton Baines comes onto our radars and the timing could barely be better, with the Toffees set to embark on a kind run of matches (SWA, NEW, sto, WBA, liv, avl, WHM, sun) over the next eight.

Gameweek 24 Bonus Points

Only three goalkeepers picked up bonus this week. Adrian, Jordan Pickford and Petr Cech were the men in question, with the later also picking up the MoTM gong and extending his lead in the overall bonus ranking. The Czech shot stopper is on 16 for the season, two ahead of Jack Butland.

In defence, seven players grabbed bonus, six for tackles and one for passes completed. A pretty low figure compared to the average Gameweek and indeed no player came close to grabbing both. Cesar Azpilicueta, Erik Pieters and Simon Francis are top bonus magnets with 16 each.

In midfield, there were 13 beneficiaries in total: 12 for tackling and three for passes. Everton’s Mo Besic again picked up both, as did the current bonus leader Cesc Fabregas – he’s on 36 points so far, eight clear of the second-placed Lucas Leiva.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
VardyLeicester7.35.1%
OzilArsenal8.44.9%
LukakuEverton8.84.6%
KolarovMan City7.24.1%
KaneTottenham9.33%

Three of the top five are forwards, here with some surgery clearly taking place up top. Jamie Vardy, Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane all look set to feature this week and still have decent form so it’s a risky strategy. Mesut Ozil and Aleksandar Kolarov have been out injured, though the Gunners playmaker has already been passed fit to face Chelsea on Sunday.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
GiroudArsenal9.25.9%
AgueroMan City105.7%
IghaloWatford6.55.5%
PayetWest Ham6.24.6%
OzilArsenal8.44.1%

Again three forwards feature, with in-form Sergio Aguero and Olivier Giroud the top targets. Odion Ighalo is a result of the Monday night fixtures and his owners will be hoping he returns to his earlier season form for the visit of Newcastle. Dimitri Payet’s ownership continues to rise, whilst Mesut Ozil features in both ins and outs this week rather bizarrely.

The average amount of transfers remaining amongst the top 100 Sky managers currently is 7.66, whilst the top 1,000 average is 9.51 and the top 5,000 is 10.12.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options for the next six fixtures. These will be looking at three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Notes

Sergio Aguero’s 40-pointer as skipper and Harry Kane’s 10 points were the only hauls of note in a slightly above average week. My triple Watford defence continues to toil but with Newcastle at home up next I’m prepared to give them one last hurrah before possibly replacing a couple.

Heurelho Gomes to Jack Butland is an option I’m weighing up, given the Stoke stopper’s heroics this season. I don’t like spending transfers on keepers but they are, on average, much cheaper than defenders. Furthermore, the signing of Costel Pantilimon is also a slight concern.

As for the defender replacement, I’m looking at either Eric Dier or Danny Simpson to come in for Craig Dawson or Craig Cathcart or maybe even both options. This would, of course, be a massive commitment, given the three transfers required and could backfire – I’ll hold fire for now, though, given West Brom’s decent fixtures.

Captain Plan
Just the one captain for me again this week due to the way the fixtures have fallen and I’m likely to pin my hopes on Sergio Aguero once again – not only did he look back to his best last week but locking the armband on him means I’ll go into Gameweek 26 with the City striker as skipper away to Sunderland.

I’m ignoring Sunday’s fixtures personally but Romelu Lukaku is clearly the stand out option in this matchday – the only drawback is that Everton don’t feature until matchday two in Gameweek 26.

If you want to keep up the two captain per Gameweek plan without using a transfer, then a Swansea or Arsenal player is your best bet, with Olivier Giroud my tip.

    Bottoms

    Dear FFS website users,

I need some advice on my defence... I wish to bring in Jagielka and Dawson/Evans

Who is best to take out???

    Butland / McCarthy
    Bellerin / ward / Toby / Simpson / moreno
    Kdb / mahrez / alli / ozil / payet
    Aguero / lukaku / Kane

    0.8 ITB

Ward - good defensive record until 3 games ago 2 of these were against city and Chelsea
Moreno - bought at 4.6 and has good 4 fixtures
Simpson - bought at 3.9 can't afford to take him out
Toby - bought at 5m keeping for the season hopefully
Bellerin - good points recently but an expensive defender who could make way

I think a lot rides on city getting their act together away from home. West Ham are shipping chances, and we know Aguero is capable of putting those chances in. The big question for me is whether Spurs/Everton are a more reliable side than city away right now. My opinion, though, is that they will improve on the road and West Ham are conceding significant chances and this could well be the game city turn their away form round

Wijnaldum haven't scored away so far and has back to back away games. Hoping that will change though πŸ˜‰

He was originally instructed by his lawyer to deny the charges. Then he changed the lawyer who took a new look at his case and told him that he's got no case whatsoever and should be very humble and plead guilty and pay the missing taxes and accept the fines or he'll go to jail.

Or that's how I understood his statement.

His explanation that he's not well-informed of tax issues but depends on lawyers and agents and such, is not implausible.

The Arsenal vs Leicester City game has been moved from Saturday the 13th to Sunday the 14th.

Nice of Sky and the FA to take into account the many fans who have booked flights, trains, accommodation and purchased tickets for the original Satuday fixture like myself.

Didn't Sky have an advert a while back saying football is all about the fans? All about the $$$$. Absolutely ridiculous changing the date of the fixture just 3 weeks before the game.

Beware, it looks like you're publishing member data. I know that you can get the stuff elsewhere too, but all the language (chances created instead of key passes, etc.) and that time period (4GW) suggest you're using the member area data, and that will not be liked. You should definitely refer those stats to some Opta-licensed site unless you've bought data from Opta yourself, which I doubt you have, because I tried to do it and they refused to sell to an individual writer.

              Let me quote them:

" we do not provide data for personal usage. We only work with professionals."

I guess if I had a plan to make money with it from the beginning, they would have sold it to me. I tried to explain that I see others who have started by giving their analysis out for free and only with time started to make money with it (my plan as well, I have no intention to make extensive analysis without getting paid for it), but somehow they didn't warm up to my approach. Maybe I should put up an enterprise first and then ask to buy their stats. Maybe they then would sell their data to me as well.

Got rid of the statsitcs side for safety, don't want to get banned or warned.

Yeah, good move bro. I think you would have got your membership cancelled rather than got banned from the forum.

Anyway, I'm sure you can come up with a more personal take than just their shooting stats. FFS offers that already. Your doggy colleague up there proposes you rather invest your personality in it, that might be the right way to go. Many here would read stuff like that.

The point is that if you get it from here, then basically Mark is violating his deal with Opta and then you're violating your deal with Mark and I can imagine he'll have no choice but to cancel your membership to block your access to their opta data. Since they only publish it to members. So, be very careful of what you write and how you explain it. I got my post here deleted for less than that (and took all data from the fecking whoscored.com).

If you can somehow put it like "all data courtesy of squawka" or something, and they provide this data (I think they do), then it should be legally ok. I guess. Because Squawka comes up with public data. Whoscored.com is another one, but if I was the judge I'd say you didn't take that 4Gw period of "chances created" from whoscored.com.

Happy to help. And I'm the No Camp, so don't take it badly that I only come up with the negatives. Take the positives from somebody else, they exist too.

Sorry for crushing feedback. Fwiw, I read your posts on this forum. I just wouldn't click a link and read a longer version if it doesn't offer any extra value for me. And that first post didn't.

You think I should scrap the blogs and make longer posts on here? (It's okay I want feedback)

Nah. Blog is okay, if that's the way you want to do it. But I'd bet you'd get more readers from this forum by posting on this forum. Anyway, check my one stylistic tip above. It may prove to be very valuable.

It's good. Take both the good and the bad feedback with a pinch of salt. Some like to suck up, some like to constantly seem superior.

        Stupid comment
Camp in particular has went out his way to give advice that will be helpful if he keeps it up, which I hope he does.
He asked for feedback, gets constructive feedback, mine was given from my own perspective so it can't be wrong, and you say the feedback is pointless.
Your comment is less helpful than any other one.

Nice blog. Always nice to read people's thought on their teams.

A few comments regarding my own experience.

      1) I think the blog is a little bit too focused on only the issue of the captaincy. Of course it can prove to have a very big impact on teams this week, but I still think a broader view/discussion of you team could be nice. Maybe you are just trying to keep it short.

      2) I disagree with your use of stats. I think you are trying to use the stats to fit back up your own decision - specifically regarding the Crystal Palace conceived goals.
You mention that Palace have convceived 9 goals in six, which of course is correct. You just fail to take into account that 4 of these were against City away and 3 against city at home. The Hennesey part is of course interesting, as he certainly hasn't been at his best the past few games. This said I agree that Palace probably won't keep a CS πŸ˜‰

Like your blog and your writing though. Doesn't mean to criticize at all, I just personally prefer a blog to regard any matter as unbiased as possible and delve into the discussion a little bit more than you do in this particular post.

Keep up the nice work and I will look forward to reading your blog again.

No worries. Guess what I a trying to say is these two things:

          1) Make it longer and more detailed - people are going to want some more I think. Your writing and thoughts are a good read, so give the readers some more πŸ˜‰

          2) As I was trying to say above, I prefer blogs where I can read your discussion about for example Kane/Aguero and actually land on a Aguero decision myself without completely disagreeing with you. A more "on one side and on the other side"-style blog would accomplish this.

          Just my personal opinion.

          Good luck
