This is the inaugural season of the Frequent Posters Cup, for those who have had plenty to say on the Fantasy Football Scout boards in recent weeks. From 120 eligible entrants, who all notched a staggering 281 or more individual posts in the 30 days prior to entry, the competition now reaches the last 32 stage. Here’s the story so far and last 32 draw.
THE STORY SO FAR
At a rough estimate, the 120 initial entrants combined a mind-blowing 90,000 posts in the 30 days prior to entry, which is around 25 posts per person, per day. Involving this collection of dedicated managers, who are keen to offer advice on such a regular basis, makes this competition arguably one of the toughest in Fantasy Football.
Qualifying started in earnest in Gameweek 28 and carried on through Gameweek 29 as we whittled down the list to 32.
Worthy mentions go to Hy Liverpool, who was the highest scorer in an overall low-scoring Gameweek 28. He was eight points clear of the next higher scorer – BabyB – who amassed 54 points.
Rhinos was the Gameweek 28 qualification round’s unluckiest manager, tying with nine other teams on 38 points and missing out on automatic entry into the next round on overall rank.
The top 60 managers from Gameweek 28 marched on into the head-to-heads in Gameweek 29. Among those to progress was Spineless Weasel, who had a poor Gameweek 28 but was given a second crack at the whip in Gameweek 29. His 100-point haul that week earned him a wildcard into the last 32. Cradders, Andy85wsm and Albrightondknight also came close to gaining wildcard status after similarly impressive Gameweek 29 scores.
Also in Gameweek 29, Thunder_Mike and Sepp Blattered were the highest head-to-head scorers, amassing 102 points apiece and knocking out F_Ivanovic and Dog God It respectively in the process.
The closest Gameweek 29 head-to-head match was between Prophet and Jay. Both scored 88 points, but Prophet’s superior overall rank meant he progressed.
In the highest profile tie, TorresMagic lost 89-82 to Jonty, while other big-name exits included Bowstring the Carp, RoysCallerAnne, Daniel, Every Dog Has Its Day, Balders, Epic Fail and BabyB.
The final place in the last 32 went to the 100 Club Wildcard winner (for those with fewer than 15 pages’ posting history who were nominated by one of the seven contributors with over 100 pages in their posting history [Jazz, Irish Madridsta, Balders, TorresMagic, Ayew Serious, Eden Hazardous and Doosra]). It was iCon (nominated by Irish Madridsta) who prevailed, beating Eunuch Jelly.
