James Tomkins and James Collins both return from injury to appear in Mark Noble’s testimonial. Wahbi Khazri and Lamine Kone are expected to be fit for Sunderland’s clash with the Baggies, Gerard Deulofeu notches for Spain Under 21s, whilst Rafa Benitez hints at more minutes for Newcastle’s forgotten Dutchman.

Hammers duo step up recoveries

James Tomkins and James Collins both took to the field for Mark Noble’s testimonial match after recovering from injuries. Tomkins played the first 45 minutes, whilst Collins was afforded the final nine minutes of the match as the pair look to step up their fitness ahead of a plum home clash with Crystal Palace this weekend. Sam Byram, meanwhile, is still nursing an injury and failed to take part.

The Scout Says: Assuming Tomkins is given the all-clear for the Eagles’ visit, Slaven Bilic could well decide to station him at right-back if Byram misses out again. Such a scenario would allow Michail Antonio – who has played at right wing-back and right-back recently due to the injuries in defence – to reclaim a spot in the Hammers’ attacking quartet. Considering that the former Nottingham Forest wide man has averaged 5.2 points per appearance and comes in considerably cheaper than Dimitri Payet (5.4 compared to 8.3), Antonio’s progress will be keenly observed prior to West Ham’s two doubles in Gameweeks 34 and Gameweek 37, with Manuel Lanzini – at 4.9 – also on our radars in light of his goal at Goodison last time out. It’s worth noting, however, that the London club play Manchester United in their FA Cup quarter-final replay on 13 April, setting up a schedule (four matches in 12 days) that’s ripe for rotation.

Black Cats optimistic on new boys

Having both withdrawn from international duty after picking up injuries in the Tyne-Wear derby, Wahbi Khazri and Lamine Kone are both expected to be back in the frame for Sunderland’s home tie against West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

The Scout Says: With the Baggies’ visit and a trip to Norwich on the Black Cats’ agenda across the next trio of Gameweeks, the short-term schedule looks crucial for Big Sam’s side. Khazri’s propensity for Fantasy returns was illustrated by a haul of 19 points against Liverpool and United over Gameweek 26-27 before a run of four straight blanks, with Jermain Defoe (two goals in as many matches) offering the in-form route into an attack that’s fired 17 shots on target in their last four matches – only four teams managed more. Although Sunderland don’t enjoy a double in Gameweek 34, their successive home encounters in Gameweek 37 (CHE, EVE) encourage us to keep tabs on their prime assets.

Deulofeu dazzles for Spain

Gerard Deulofeu scored the only goal for Spain’s U21 outfit (a stunning solo effort) as they ran out out 1-0 victors over Norway.

The Scout Says: With regards to Everton’s wing options, Aaron Lennon (four goals and one assist in six starts) and Tom Cleverley are Roberto Martinez’s favoured pairing at present, but the likes of Deulofeu, Kevin Mirallas (back from suspension) and Oumar Niasse (having scored for Senegal over the break) are all pushing for starts. Certainly, the Toffees’ back-to-back doubles in Gameweek 33 (wat & cry) and Gameweek 34 (SOU & liv) may lend itself to rotation on the flanks, given that their trip to Liverpool in the second double arrives three days before an FA Cup semi-final encounter against either West Ham or Man United. Given his security of starts, Ross Barkley furnishes us with the safest route into the Merseysiders’ midfield, though 11 blanks in his last 12 are hardly reassuring. Although he’s flattered to deceive of late, only two midfielders mustered more shots (12) than Barkley over their previous four outings, which suggests that a slight calibration could trigger strong returns.

Benitez talks up De Jong

Rafa Benitez intimated that Siem de Jong will enjoy more playing time under his stewardship, having been impressed with the Dutchman’s two cameo outings since arriving on Tyneside:

“At this time, you need experience, you need people that can understand the game and they can play the game under pressure. That is the most difficult thing, to play the game under pressure. Some players are good players but struggle under pressure, but he will be important for the rest of the season.”

The Scout Says: Looking at the output of Newcastle’s midfielders since Benitez took up the mantle, Moussa Sissoko (5.6) posted the most impressive statistics, ranking top for attempts (five), top for shots inside the box (five) and second for key passes (four). Conversely, Georginio Wijnaldum managed zero attempts and two key passes, which in part can be attributed to his deployment at the double pivot last time out, with Benitez fielding Ayoze Perez in “the hole” behind a lone striker. Should De Jong (who has managed a single assists in an injury-hit season) oust the latter, he could prove a surprise option ahead of the Magpies’ double Gameweek 34 (SWA & MCI) . Despite the fact that the Toon tallied two goals in their last four fixtures, Benitez’s influence is illustrated by the fact they charted sixth for shots inside the box (18) in their past two match-ups.

Blind hopeful on hamstring

Daley Blind sustained a stiff hamstring while training for Netherlands but expects to be passed fit for Oranje’s trip to Wembley:

“My hamstring is stiff. I didn’t want to take any risks in view of the upcoming games. We have to see how it goes. But I don’t think it’s that bad.”

The Scout Says: Blind’s classification as a midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League starves us of a path into the Red Devils’ rearguard, ensuring that Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the only safe selections. At a price of just 5.0, Marcos Rojo – who has been handed four consecutive starts – is beginning to establish himself as a candidate for Man United’s double Gameweek 34 (AVL & CRY), though there’s always the fear that Ashley Young’s imminent return to the fold will increase his rotation risk. Regardless, Louis van Gaal’s men have conceded three fewer goals (seven) than any team at home this term, which makes Man United’s backline a more alluring source of investment than a lacklustre attack that’s mustered just seven goals in their last six outings.

Thanks to the poll on the previous post. This is my team.

    I'm in the WC36 and BB37 camp.
How does this team look for GW34 (NO hits).
I'd have Robles and Lukaku for GW33.

    HART. (Robles)
    KOSCLELNY. BELLERIN. SAKHO. (Wollschein. Huth)
    FIRMINO. PAYET. OZIL. Mahrez (Alli)
    AGUERO. LUKAKU. Kane

I'd appreciate any thought to this team?
I can get Smalling in over Koscielny, but still undecided regarding that one position.

    Cheers

Very similar team and the reason I'll be holding out for a later WC too. I've got Lanzini ahead of Payet and Sanchez ahead of Ozil but I prefer yours. Slight difference at the back as I'll pick Rojo ahead of Kos.

Tried to do various different WC33 teams but the strength of my team as it currently is compared to WC33 teams from 32 through to 38 looks better with a later WC.

Good luck, gonna be horrendous watching thousands overtake after they BB in 34. Here's to hoping the 37BB pays enough dividends to claim our spots back.

    Rate this GW32 wildcard team:

    Robles Elliot
    Smalling Rojo Koscielny Bellerin Sakho
    Ozil Firmino Coutinho Payet Barkley
    Kane Lukaku Mitrovic

People always seem to ignore DGWs and get punished

I don't want so and so as team A is poor

DGWs always throw up surprises, Hull defenders, how many people went big on the Aston Villa/QPR DGW last season? Not many. In fact many didn't even captain Austin for a DGW. Meantime anyone who went big was rewarded. A person I can not name had Benteke (c), Austin and Phillips and got into the 150s with his total that week.

tl:dr? In short don't be so dismissive of DGWs, you never know what they will throw up and remember these guys get 4 points just for showing up

    Fantasy Football Scout

Double Gameweeks - Can We Learn From History?

Double gameweek players have the potential to offer Fantasy managers huge points returns. Rooney's 64 captaincy hau and even Benoit Assou-Ekotto's 20 plus pts haul all show how expected and unexpected these points can come from.

What key double Gameweek events from seasons past have shaped the way you think about double Gameweeks?

Have you been caught out by drafting in poor double gameweek players that you've strugged to ditch? Or have you regretted taking points hits to take advantage of the potential points explosion? Or have you regretted ditching a single gameweek player who has punished you for your lack of loyalty?

The key take I have from last season's AVL / QPR DGW points bonanza was never write off poor teams with A LOT to play for.

A key lesson I've learned is that hits are very much worth it. That's motivated me to wildcard for GWK 34 and then for GWK 37 take a hit or two if I need more double players.

Also, thankfully for me as a dullard, boring players are gold. Those assists and bonus here and there for Ozil or Milner are great for a double Gameweek. Punts offer the chance of more, but also a low score as well.

Remember Fantasy football and real football are not the same thing. Fantasy football is about getting points. Real football is about watching exciting players. sometimes the two are one and the same. Often they are not though.

              🙂

I know he comes in cheaper than the other Liverpool options but I don't think Milner is the best way into points from that Liverpool midfield.

Prior to his sending off in GWK 29 his scores were 11, 2, 5, 8, 13. That would give a doubles tally of seven minimum or 21 maximum if carried into the coming fixtures.

He may be boring but he's more than capable of a double digit double gameweek score.

Crucially as well he's just 6.5m....which frees up a lot of cash to invest elsewhere, especially when key defenders for GWK 34 are so pricey.

Another thing I like about Milner is that because he's boring people dismiss him. Great for his 3% of owners when he racks up his fpl points. 🙂

I tried to squeeze Milner in, but with Reid over Clyne I was 0.2 short which would mean going Coutinho over Firmino

The only sub 4.6 defender that would appear nailed is Olsson

              are you keeping any SGWers?

Kane and Mahrez currently. Key reason for keeping Kane is that aside from Aguero and Lukaku no other GWK 33 or 34 strikers appeal - even those from a double gameweek. Mitrovic may tempt me...but then I think 'what am I doing transferring out the Prem League's best striker for Newcastle striker'.

I am selling Kane, and gambling on Martial, who I will probably sell in GW35 for Defoe

I have Mahrez still there atm but I can get Milner ahead of him and swap Clyne for Reid, or swap him for Wijnaldum, but not sure either of those appeal

well as an Old Trafford season ticket holder I'll be at both those games. What could be better than cheering some Martial goals and getting FPL points at the same time?

Rooney clouds a lot of thinking in our attack in terms of who he replaces. I know with 100% certainty that it won't be Martial

Biggest memory is last season when I had triple Sunderland defence for their 2 CS. Also had Mane fastest Hat trick ever but he was a single gameweek player i think. Safe to say it was a good week 😀

I was 23 in the world and 1st in top 10k that week. Doubt I'll ever have a week that good again!

I once made Nicky Shorey my captain when he was playing a DGW for Reading. Got me a whole 4 points and I managed a OR of 25th that year. If it wasn't for that rush of blood to the head could have being better.

I have captained Baines before for a DGW aswell and didn't work out so my lesson learned is don't captain defenders for DGWs.

It's obviously not a rule. But in my experience I've almost always been let down by the bigger players and not the smaller ones. We all know that somebody from Watford, palace or Newcastle is going to own it. These things just happen and it's a very unpredictable league
Personally I believe committing to a genuine wildcard gamble (ie all but one of your squad double players) gives you the best chance of finding these nuggets.

    GW 34: 13 DGW'S & Kane + Mahrez. Bench Boost

GW35: 11 players (including Dier, Fuchs, Mahrez, Alli, Vardy)
    GW36: WC in 14 DGW'ers (for 37) + Ozil
    GW37: 15 DGW'ers (BB)

    GW34 team will be:
    De Gea
    Bellerin, Delaney, Dawson
    Mahrez, Ozil, Payet, Firmino
    Aguero, Lukaku, Welbeck

No hits planned. What do you think?

Not commenting on individual players, but the overall plan looks good.

I could take Bolasie over Firmino? And then maybe a -4 in GW34 to sell Bolasie for Firmino

I fear the lack of Kane.
Sensible gamble with Welbeck given you have 11 guys

    Pick 1

    a) Mahrez - sun + WHM + 4 pts
    b) Bolasie - NOR + EVE + ars + mun

      B) for me. Bolasie *might* be my GW 33 (c)

B if you can wait a week and monitor Bolasie performance in GW 22....If Bolasie is still showing no form best to go with Mahrez who is in form

Hello fellow dgw planners. Thinking of pulling the 'late WC strategy'. 2 FT, 6 dgw34 players, no dgw33 players in currently. Any obvious flaws with this plan?

GW 32 TRANSFERS: Siggy -> Payet, Williams -> Ward
GW 33 TRANSFERS: Kane -> Lukaku
Gives me 2 dgwers for 33 in Lukaku and Ward, allows me to keep triple leicester assets for sun game.
GW 34 TRANSFERS: Mahrez -> Sanchez, Vardy -> Deeney (For -4)
    GW 34 TEAM:

    FOSTER
    OTAMENDI BELLERIN WARD
    SANCHEZ (TC) OZIL FIRMINO PAYET
    AGUERO LUKAKU DEENEY
    (McCarthy Alli Fuchs Daniels)

GW 35: Transfer out one of: Payet/Lukaku/Deeney/Ward for a one-week punt. Can field full XI without hits.
    GW 36: WC
GW 37: BB with 15 dgwers.

All this for one point hit. Biggest worries are obviously not maximizing DGW33 and having no UTD players for DGW34. Also not sure if I can count Ward as a DGW player in GW34 with those fixtures. Any suggestions on why I should/shouldn't opt for this strategy are much appreciated.

Can Butland's price drop wait until next GW? That would be very helpful.

Which of these would you rather have for coming GW?

    1) Hennessey(whm) + Ivanovic (avl) + Payet (CPL)
    2) Cech (WAT) / Coutois (avl)+ Williams (sto) + Payet (CPL)
    3) Cech (WAT) + Ivanovic (avl) + Alli (liv)

Currently on 2) with Cech (WAT)

    Thoughts?

    Alexis

CPL - Goal (conceding one) 8 pts
WBA - Goal + Assist (conceding zero) 13 points

That is 21 points. TC on that one so 63 points.

    I'll take it.

      I like that reasoning.

      Alternatively:

CPL - 103 shots on target, hits both posts and crossbar, 2 points
      WBA - cleansheet, 0 goals, 3 points

      5 x 3 (TC) = 15

I hope your right rather than me cos Ill be captaining him 🙂
