We conclude Sunday’s events with a floodlit clash between Germany and Ukraine in Group C.

Germany will undoubtedly be considered favourites to begin their campaign with a victory. However, question mark remains over Joachim LΓΆw’s side in a number of positions and their form on arrival in France is far from convincing. Defeats to England and Slovakia in pre-tournament friendlies has raised doubts in the German camp.

Their opponents will head into the contest with some confidence. Ukraine have won nine of their last 13 outings, with victories in their last four. A 1-0 reverse at the hands of Spain has been their only setback in this impressive spell.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      If the qualify from the group stages which I think they will, he could be back. I don't think he'll miss more than 2 games. He will be a big miss though.

        Captaining a defender at this point might not be such a bad thing, aside from Giroud none of my attackers have done anything (Matuidi, Gotze, Hamsik, Perisic).

              He had chances and looked dangerous, that's the main thing. I'm quite content having him. Who knows, Löw may start him next time, Götze didn't play well and Draxler hasn't had much football. But he's my wildcard, if he hits I am happy and if he doesn't he ends up benched. πŸ™‚

                Agreed πŸ™‚ Seemed to be extremely advanced up the pitch when he came on and was as hungry as we could have hoped! Ukraine were solid enough, their keeper made some excellent saves too. Kroos impressed me, feel like I was way luckier with the Ozil assist than I was unlucky with Schurrle / Konoplyanka. Muller was fairly absent worryingly..

                I just don't understand the love for Gotze, especially as a "false 9". I haven't seen too much of him in the Bundesliga and I'm sure he's a clever player, but he always comes across as too lightweight to lead the line for me.

              Alba CS very likely against Czech that's equivalent to 1 goal for morata and Alba has good attacking potential so I'd go Alba imo (My captain is Juanfran today I don't own Alba)

          He's never done it on a windy night at Stoke.

          He HAS knocked Real Madrid out of the champions league though. Great player, very underrated in England.

                Everything I've seen and read about says he is a phenomenal player. Apparently hasnt missed a stride in becoming juves star striker past year.
                However he is young, inexperienced and in typical Spanish fashion doesn't score enough

                  He hasn't become their "star striker" really. Mandzukic has started every Serie A game when fit and has scored more goals than Morata.

                  No doubting Morata's potential though.

            I'd keep a very close eye on Hazard later, seems a bit overpriced for me.. Could be so, so wrong though and looking through green-tinted glasses!
