Saturday’s events has proved the catalyst for a number of key changes in the Watchlist, most notably in midfield.

Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to sacrifice Dele Alli for the home clash with Crystal Palace has seen him topple from the reckoning. With Christian Eriksen giving way to Alli on 68 minutes, Erik Lamela enjoys a climb in the Watchlist as our current preferred target in the Spurs midfield. Given Harry Kane’s decline as attacking cover, this finds Lamela rank fifth in a significant rise for the Argentine.

It is Everton’s Ross Barkley that enjoys the most significant ascent.

We would normally remain cautious on Barkley’s potential but the current Fantasy landscape compounds the appeal of the Toffees playmaker.

Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are absorbing big funds in attack, resulting in midfield options in and around the 7.5 Fantasy Premier League bracket becoming key targets.

Barkley has started the season with a goal and an assist and should have come away from the Hawthorns with a second strike of the season after planting a close-range header wide of Ben Foster’s goal.

Everton and Barkley have made a confident start under Ronald Koeman and their fixtures are just exceptional.

Stoke, Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace present winnable Goodison encounters, whilst the Toffees will also travel to Sunderland, Bournemouth and Burnley in their next seven.

With the Romelu Lukaku option priced out by the Aguero/Ibraimovic pairing, it is clear that Barkley is the key draw. He is a factor on set-pieces and is currently presumed to be Koeman’s designated penalty taker having scored in pre-season with Lukaku and Baines on the pitch.

Both Kevin Mirallas and Yannick Bolasie offer cheaper alternatives. Mirallas has also started the season strongly and plays his part at set-pieces, but his security of start is called into question now that Bolasie is an option to Koeman, with Gerard Deulofeu also in the mix. Barkley looks set to remain a constant with the pitch time of that trio is currently difficult to predict.

Bolasie at just 6.0 in the FPL is, nonetheless, set to be an intriguing option. If he earns regular starts as expected, we will need to monitor his output and underlying numbers in comparison to his displays at Palace. Koeman is certainly pledging to get more goals and assists from his big money signing.

Elsewhere, Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and the returning Dimitri Payet look strong as midfield big-hitters, but Barkley has the potential to keep pace with them if he can maintain his form over his most obliging run of opponents.

Lower down the rankings, Andros Townsend’s stock is also boosted by strong fixtures. The arrival of Christian Benteke now offers the alternative in the Palace ranks and it’s arguable whether this dents Townsend’s appeal given that his supply now has a target.

Nathan Redmond holds his high rank despite a run of testing opponents to come – St Mary’s meetings with Sunderland, Swansea and Burnley still offer potential profit.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne currently remain on the periphery – again impact of the Aguero/Ibrhimovic pairing is limiting their popularity, at least until they begin to provide evidence that they can justify their lofty price tags.

Sanchez certainly has the fixtures to thrive, although he currently seems to be struggling having been charged with the central striker role by Arsene Wenger.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd stick with your plan of going with the better fixture. How many extra points will you pick up with a pricier goalie? Plus the save points and odd penalty save are nice dividends. Not to mention it WILL backfire some times.

Who is in your optimal five man midfield?

And given the cost of Aguero and Ibra is this a good season to cut down on midfield premium options?

Ultimately I'll be aiming for a five man midfield of Hazard, Sanchez, Redmond, Bojan/Arnautovic and a 4.5 by the time GW5 comes around.

Mine hasn't changed since the start... was pretty happy with it until the Mane injury but at least I got Capoue off the bench this week. Still hope he's back next Saturday

      Hazard, Mane, Lamela, Redmond, Capoue

...and yes, with 2 premium mids you need to look much more a value players in midfield rather than choosing the number 1 from each club

Hazard Ozil Redmond Ramirez Capoue is what I'm aiming for.

Two prime big hitters, two enablers who should get points considering their position/importance to their teams attack and the best 4.5 in the game.

I think for me no more than one heavy hitter (9m plus) but a strong focus on number 10s and of course a good 4.5 option.

Hazard for me is the best premium option. Chelsea is on the rise and Mahrez and Leicester look poor compared to last season.

Firmino - I'm keeping faith with him as an option in the lower premium 8.5 category. But could be soon to move on.

Redmond - Although I have tadic, Redmond's price tag is hard to ignore. I still rate Tadic highly though.

Barkley - as reluctant as I am to admit after shunning him last season he looks a very solid, consistent points scorer.

Capoue - a FFS success story. We saw the pre season goals and more have come. By far the best in the budget category.

      Just missed the cut -
Ramirez - I'm backing my man here to deliver more during Middlesbrough's kind run. This is a space though that in a few gameweeks could be occupied by Bojan.

I'm giving him a little more time. Those that ditched Gray or were too quick to back the WBA defence know that patience can be a virtue. I think we'll have a far better idea after the spurs match on Firmino. Will certainly look to ship for Barkley in the int. break if he's still failing to score.

I feel like losing City defenders and doubling on their attack is on the cards. Hazard is ticking over though I'd like more for the money, and I'm waiting for Ozil to be back in the Arsenal side. If I'm serious about those options then unfortunately two 4.5s who rotate look likely...

Probably your five except - based on the evidence of just one game I admit - Pogba over Firmino. United have got good quickly, will surely get better and Pogba will be right in the mix.

Maybe the second question could be posed as an A or B:

      A. Given the cost of Aguero and Ibra is this a good season to cut down on midfield premium options?

      or

      B. Given the cost of Aguero and Ibra is this a good season to keep those midfield premium options and go for an ultra budget 3rd striker (e.g. Diomande) as an enabler?

Currently I am A with Aguero / Ibra / Gray, but will probably jump when the underperforming premium midfielders finally get their acts together.

Assuming Aguero and Ibra as the hot essential assets at the moment, and a 6.5 striker as the third, I would choose these as my optimal five man midfield at the moment. Also, I'm investing quite high in defence, particularly looking at Man Utd, Arsenal(for the coming fixtures) and West Brom(for Pullis obviously)

      Capoue Lamela Barkley Hazard Redmond

Won't put a Kop as one of those yet after seeing their struggle against Burnley and tough 3 games coming up ahead.

With this lineup, can afford to switch Redmond, Capoue and Gray depending on their fixtures.

I'm sitting on Hazard Lamela Redmond Capoue and Firmino.

Firmino could become Ozil or Barkley next week.

Would still pick this middfield if I were to wc

I think Hazard-Barkley-Lamela-Capoue-Redmond is pretty well balanced, still gives you money to spend on decent defenders and Benteke or one of the 6.5 strikers.

There seems to be so much choice this year there doesnt seem to be anyone yet in the midfield thats screaming to be transferred in.

As good as Capoue has been he's unlikely to keep going and will probably be 2 point fodder most weeks. He's only had 2 touches in the opposition box in 2 games.

After a WC to get Ibra in my team my MF is now:
      Hazard, Barkley, Townsend, Bojan, Redmond.

WC still active so thoughts appreciated.

So far there's lots of inconsistency (Redmond, Deulofeu, Ramirez) and no obvious choices.

That means keeping faith in last season's performers: Mahrez, Tadic, Hazard. All look class.

I might punt on Bolasie, he looked lively and created two 100% chances in 30 mins. But his game time...

What do you guys think for a fourth midfielder, Jordan Ibe (looks dangerous on the ball and has two good fixtures coming weeks) or Gaston Ramirez (has impressed big time and have two good fixtures aswell)? To consider, I already have Negredo from Boro in my team.

Players like Pogba and Benteke are exciting transfer choices some are talking about.

However are 'boring' transfer options like Barkley and Rondon better? they have both form and fixtures, the golden combination for FPL points.

      • 14 Years

Imo Barkley and Rondon are quite clearly better options to get this week.

Hard to see Benteke starting if he played 0 mins vs Spurs and 0 mins in pre season. Madness to buy Pogba now.

Yeah but people didn't like Ozil because he always seemed 'lazy' yet he got points. At the end of the day a players style shouldn't prevent him becoming an FPL option, let FPL points be the only guide. Barkley is pretty good at getting points.

    New team looks like this

    Foster jaku

    Ibra kun grey

0.5 itb. Im happy with the "enablers"

    Foster

    Stones VVD Valencia

    Redmond Hazard Mahrez Ramirez

    Zlatan Ageuro Benteke.

    Beautiful?

Ramirez, obviously an enabler to squeeze in Tekkers. But he's a good enabler, on all set pieces and in the number 10 role.

Hazard and Mahrez can easily be swapped to say Ozil or Payet, Liverpool/spurs mid should one necessity emerge.

If Raheem keeps going the way he is he might be the one to get alongside Aguero. He's looked really good in first two games and at 8.0 is an option certainly for that 7.5/8.0 midfield spot.
