Diego Costa scores twice as Eden Hazard bring home a one-point return. Leroy Fer strengthens his claim as a budget midfielder, whilst Stephen Kingsley seems to have convinced Francesco Guidolin he’s a worthy starter. Here’s the Stock Check following today’s events..

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Whilst Eden Hazard offered us nothing more than a yellow card, Costa maintained his momentum under Antonio Conte by netting both of the Blues’ goals at the Liberty.

Over 362,000 FPL managers turned to Costa as a result of Sergio Aguero’s suspension last week and today’s display means is the only forward to score or assist in all four Gameweeks.

Conte has failed to curb the Spain international’s penchant for falling foul of referees, though – this afternoon’s caution was his third of the season, continuing a run that has seen him booked in every league match that he has scored in this term.

Leroy Fer
Along with Etienne Capoue, the Swansea midfielder continues to bely his budget price tag, with this afternoon’s goal a third in the first four Gameweeks.

Granted, the upcoming fixtures continue to look dire but having scored against Leicester and Chelsea in back-to-back fixtures, Fer seems to have the form to prevail.

Capoue’s cheaper price (4.7 to the Dutchman’s 5.2) and kind set of fixtures from Gameweek 6 suggests he’s likely to remain the favoured fifth midfielder.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
Without a goal or assist in the first three Gameweeks, the Swansea playmaker had dropped to 7.3 ahead of Chelsea’s visit.

Sigurdsson’s spot-kick duties came to the rescue, though, and with a couple of bonus points also in the bag, his season now looks up and running.

Fer may currently be the form option, yet Siggurdsson is established Fantasy royalty and could be one to consider when the fixtures start to improve in Gameweek 9.

Stephen Kingsley
The Scot was expected to drop to the bench to accommodate Neil Taylor’s return but instead retained a role in the first XI thanks to a change in tactics by Francesco Guidolin.

The Swansea manager’s decision to begin with a 3-5-1-1 allowed Kingsley to start for the fourth successive Gameweek, stationed alongside Jordi Amat and Federico Fernandez in a back three, with Taylor utilised as a left wing-back.

Guidolin’s first-half decision to haul off Taylor and bring on Mo Barrow suggests Kingsley may well be ahead in the pecking order.

Regardless, with Southampton, City, Liverpool and Arsenal next, he looks set for a spot on our FPL benches for now.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it was his first blank of the season.

Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that if Hazard had delivered yet again today, the bandwagon would have kicked into overdrive.

Although a rare off day will certainly be forgiven by his owners, some would-be suitors may now think twice over bringing in the Belgian right now.

With the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Roberto Firmino and Michail Antonio all bagging double-figure hauls ahead of some great fixtures, Chelsea’s schedule – which sees them face Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester and Man United in the next five Gameweeks – could prove enough of a short-term deterrent.

The Chelsea Defence
Antonio Conte handed new boys David Luiz and Marcos Alonso a place amongst the substitutes, opting instead to keep faith in the defence that produced a clean sheet against Burnley in the previous Gameweek.

Branislav Ivanovic may have collected an assist for Costa’s acrobatic leveler yet the nature of Chelsea’s capitulation indicates their backline is very much a work in progress right now.

Given the aforementioned fixtures, Conte will be desperate to address his rearguard’s shortcomings. With John Terry doubtful for Liverpool’s visit with an ankle problem, the Italian may well consider a reshuffle against Jurgen Klopp’s in-form attack.

Neil Taylor
Hauled off just 40 minutes into his first appearance of the season, the left-back looked none too happy with his manager’s decision as Swansea reverted to a back-four.

Post-match, Guidolin apologised, conceding he should have replaced the Wales international at the break, though the bottom line is that Taylor now seems to have fallen behind the cut-price Kingsley as the Italian’s preferred left-back for now.

    Transfers for GW5

    Ozil -> Mane
    Negredo -> Benteke

With no european football, i think liverpool attackers are a must this season.

    Thoughts?

    1. Grand Thibauto
      10 years, 1 month ago

They are hard to predict. But dont be too quick to decide on ozil. They face hull next.

      1. MOULACTICOS
        10 years, 1 month ago

Yeah, they are hard to predict. But there is enough in their attacking threat. I wouldnt go with any of their defnesive options, as they tend to concede every game.

No european football, i reckon it's a no-brainer. Mane will start every game. Form and potential over fixtures for me.

For free? Looks solid. Thinking of ditching Özil too

      1. MOULACTICOS

yes for free, Ozil 9.6 and Mane 8.9 -> will have 0.5 ITB as well.

I have exact money to get Firmino and thinking of doing it tonight, despite Chelsea up next.

      1. MOULACTICOS
        10 years, 1 month ago

Yeah Firmino also good option, was concerned about his slow start, but seems to be showing some of last season's form.

I personally prefer Mane, reckon he will outscore Firmino this season.

  2. kalmoffit

Kane has SUN, mid. If that doesn't worry you, it's probably because your rival doesn't have him.

    1. Grand Thibauto
      10 years, 1 month ago

My rival has him too. But that shouldn't worry you since you should have Costa, Ibra(who I still don't rate), benteke

      1. kalmoffit
        10 years, 1 month ago

Ibra to Kane is on the cards.

        1. Grand Thibauto
          10 years, 1 month ago

Wait on that too. I may do Costa to Kane when costa's out of touch

      2. ElDaddy
        10 years, 1 month ago

How could you possibly not rate Ibra? The man scored 5 in 5 for United, what is it that he's doing wrong?!

        1. HellasLEAF
          10 years, 1 month ago

Spurs look they are spreading the scoring a bit though.

Kane not as essential to win them a match as before. Plus pricey, but still a solid option.

          1. ElDaddy
            10 years, 1 month ago

Obviously Kane is a great option in the coming weeks I do agree, but its just that Ibra hate that I dont get.

        2. Grand Thibauto
          10 years, 1 month ago

His goals just seem so lucky. He is good. I dont even hate him. Its that the goals seems to be coming to him. The.goal against city and his first goal as well wouldnt have happened on most days. Costa Aguero has been getting a lot of chances so hope they keep Ibra at bay

          1. ElDaddy
            10 years, 1 month ago

I can see where you're coming from BUT its all about positioning 😉 That derby goal was all about technique and nothing but.

        3. kalmoffit
          10 years, 1 month ago

He's not doing anything wrong. I don't think he'll outscore Kane.

          1. Grand Thibauto
            10 years, 1 month ago

With Dembele back, Kane is going to be on a roll I think as well. But for Ibra, not so fast

            1. ElDaddy
              10 years, 1 month ago

That Dembele-Kane connection is weird but its true after all!

Liverpool Mane or Firm will be involved in near everything imo. Think one is essential.

                  10 years, 1 month ago

Coverage means getting a player from a particular team. I don't really believe in it either. Owning an attacker from a particular team has no bearing on the scoring potential of other attackers on that team

    2. DARK SIDE OF THE LOON
      10 years, 1 month ago

I have Arsenal and no Liverpool right now. But I believe both might be a lottery. Ozil was the consistent one till he had all free kicks and corners. In both the cases points can come from anywhere.

Thinking Lamela/Redmond -> KDB despite their decent fixtures. KDB is on all set pieces, will surely play an advanced role as he did vs United.

Not too keen on Sterling, Nolito is a bit hot and cold, and Iheanacho could be hauled off early.

Only 316 senior goals. Not so many I guess.

Never said he was never a great goalscorer. I also never said he doesn't have a great goal record...

Doesn't let others score either, so all good

Zlatan scores, that's all you need to know.

no way, that is just too boring. I will go all season without Kun and Ibra

      see my team

GW6 initial Kun buy back plan was Lukaku/Mane to Kun/4.5 and start Capoue every week.
Now I'm beginning to see a flaw with that, as I don't really want to sell any of my 5 mids.
Lukaku/Benteke/Ozil ➡ Kun/Cazorla/5.3m FWD might be on the table.

Things will change before the GW6 deadline anyways. Capoue better be quiet vs ManU in GW5 🙁

Wouldn't take a hit one week before a WC. Pick one (unless you have 2 FTs?)

      1. Ian Davis
        10 years, 1 month ago

It would be a hit, but Terry is injured and need some City attacking cover (and also to sell Gray)... I might just have to take the hit.

Other option would be Sanchez > De Bruyne & Gray > ____

So hazard captain failed for those that did it, I'm quite glad I didn't get online Saturday morning to check as I would have corrected it

Only down side is my captain was Kaku

This week.....Gray to benteke (have no city coverage for Bournemouth...hope for best)

Gw6.....lukaku and ozil to King and Kun....wildcard firmly in pocket...

    Foster jaku
    Valencia stones friend kone amat
    Hazard firmino lamela ozil capoue
    Lukaku ibra gray

Does that sound decent plan?.... or should I be wildcarding gw6?.....thanks

Thoughts on KDB + Costa over Hazard + Agüero?

    1. Over Midwicket

The latter has pens and will far outscore the former. Hazard isn't essential though. There are so many heavy hitters who can get 15pts+ but Hazard's ceiling seems to be 10pts (goal and baps).

    Iheanacho, who's considering him?

Thinking about it. But it more than likely means I'm forced to WC the following week, which I'm not sure I like.

boils down to is City cover vs Bourne ''essential''.?

        1. Over Midwicket
          10 years, 1 month ago

Most certainly. At home they are one of the few teams who consistently score 4 or 5 goals against poor teams

        2. Pasqualinho
          10 years, 1 month ago

And I'm not sure it is. Not when Kane, Benteke, Lukaku all look just as good as options based on their next fixture.

I think you'll need to WC GW6 otherwise the prices of players you want will shoot out of control

        1. Pasqualinho
          10 years, 1 month ago

There's not been much sign of them shooting out of control so far
