The Stock Check – Gameweek 8 – Sunday

A Watford wing-back and a Southampton striker bolster their CV’s as value acquisitions over Sunday’s encounters. Here’s the latest Stock Check from Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Jose Holebas
A superbly struck drive provided a second goal of the season, which, coupled with a first Hornets clean sheet of the campaign, saw the Greek return a 15-point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul.

Still hovering on four bookings, one away from a ban, Holebas nonetheless represents a key defensive option at just 4.5.

The Greek benefited from Walter Mazzarri’s decision to revert to a 3-5-2, ensuring that Holebas was granted the freedom to push forward from wing-back.

Given his attacking prowess and prominence at dead-balls, Holebas appears to offer potential that can present value even when Watford’s fixtures stiffen.

Holebas faces Swansea City and Hull City in the next two Gameweeks.

Charlie Austin
His two goals in Southampton’s 3-1 victory over Burnley took him to four in his last four Gameweeks to promote his value as a 6.4 third striker option.

In a weekend that saw both Christian Benteke and Jemaine Defoe draw blanks, Austin has emerged as a clear alternative that can help to liberate valuable funds.

Austin appears to have assumed spot-kick duties from Dusan Tadic, and although he’s yet to complete 90 minutes this season, he’s started the last three for Claude Puel.

Nathan Redmond
Having suffered more than 200,000 FPL sales over the last five Gameweeks, the 5.9 midfield option returned to the scoresheet with his first strike since Gameweek 1.

Redmond has impressed in a striker role without scoring in recent weeks but appears to be integral to Puel’s attacking ploys.

However, with Sofiane Boufal approaching match fitness, it remains to be seen how Redmond slots into the Saints system in the weeks to come.

Tom Heaton
On the losing side, Heaton nonetheless boosted his stock with a stunning performance which saw him make 11 saves and earn three points plus bonus.

Heaton has now made 40 saves in total, fetching 10 points from saves this season – more than any other goalkeeper.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Pickford (Jakupovic)
    Lovren Holebas Walker Baines* Amat
    Sanchez Firmino Sterling Chadli Capoue
    Aguero Lukaku Austin

Really want Wally but only got £1.1m ITB so cant make the Chadli to Wally trade.

Should I just let him go and concentrate on upgrading Jakupovic or replacing Baines?

Probably Baines to an Arsenal defender?
Couple of stellar fixtures coming up.

56 points, nobody left to play.
Is that a good score this week?

I actually don't, people in my mini league are wiping the floor with me! Had Aguero captain 🙁
I'm gonna take your reply as an affirmative though.

I got 71 but that was by accidentally captaining Charlie Austen! Shame about aguero. Ibra blanks this game week and the trade will have worked out well

Very well done! I knew 56 wasn't THAT great.

If the average is 27, and you more than doubled that, how can you not know that 56 is a good score?

Yeah but people that post on FFS are surely likely to have a better score than the boarder FPL average... so I asked on here to get a read of how good the score is compared to the people that frequent this site, rather than compared to the average on FPL which includes casuals and dormant teams.

Double up with Sanchez and Wally for the next two GWs? Will assess whether to keep Sanchez or to ship him out for a Kun Luk Costa frontline.

    Better option:

    A) Antonio to Son/Siggy

    B) Antonio & Snodgrass to Alli & J.Allen (-4)

    Too soon bring Siggy in?
Son surely a rotation risk one more IT break after GW11.
Alli seems to be the safer bet right now.

    Appreciate your thoughts!

A to Son. If he keeps this form up, he won't be rotated in the league given Spurs' fixture difficulty.

Had a good impact when he came on vs Brom too

    Hello

A - Chadli to Sterling (To play alongside Walcott, Sanchez and Capoue)

B - Chadli to KDB, Valcencia to Pieters (Or other £4.6m or less starting defender) for a -4

Any thoughts on the above? Cheers

I'm personally keeping Chadli but if your looking to sell I would go B, KDB's potential to score big in the long run is worth a hit

2 FTs this week with £1.4m ITB - so am thinking:

    Puncheon >> Allen
Capoue (surely time to cash out?!?) >> Milner

    My current team is:

    Foster / (Jaku)
    Walker / Williams / McAuley / (Amat) / (Smith)
    Sanchez / Walcott / Firmino / (Puncheon) / Capoue
    Aguero / Lukaku / Rashford

    Thanks!

Wow, this place can really be a joke sometimes, yesterday when people said they had Holebas on the bench they got ripped to shreds (after he scored obviously as the captain hindsight's were out in force) and now I've seen a number of people suggesting to bench him this week. Amazing stuff.

Right here goes, bench two for GW 9

    A) Vertonghen (away to Bou)
    B) Smith (home to Spu)
    C) Holebas (away to Swa)
    D) Amat (home to Wat)

You best not bench him again...

Go with the two away defenders then I guess?

The cleanie is more likely at Swansea so I'd go C, D.

I'm hesitant to bench an attacking defender in a 50/50 CS chance so would have to lean towards Holebas over Amat

What would you change from this? I have quite a few that could go, but a lot can probably stay too

    2FT 0.9ITB
    A) Jaku (Have Foster who has tough fixtures)
    B) Kone (Set to drop and don't have the best defence)
    C) Sterling
    D) Antonio
    E) Capoue

I think I'd rather remove Antonio, but to get Walcott it's easier to remove Sterling.

    Stones -> Holebas?
Surely City will get their act together and keep a few clean sheets at some stage?

I can see Stones becoming gold in the 2nd half of the season. Not right now though. They are still not comfortable with the way Pep wants them to play and make collosal mistakes based on whats wanted from them. 6+ or 4.5 defenders are the way to go IMO.

Need more. To play as 4th mid, 5th mid? How many FT, how much ITB, whats your reasoning for the move?

One last chance for Antonio vs Sunderland or ship immediately for Milner/Lallana?

If your only other options are defender Milner and after injury Lallana Id definitely go with Antonio. If youd ship him for lets say Son, Walcott, Siggy or Arnie, Id think about it.

Not got enough ITB for those guys, probably going to keep Antonio then save FT to get to get Walcott in GW10.

Siggy and Tadic are 7.2. Allen is 4.8 and on form with nice fixtures ahead of him.

Id still save and go the Walcott in GW10 route.

No smooth with my rough this week.

Got bored over the Int Break and made 5 transfers (-12)

    Ibra > Rashford
    Kone > PVA
    Capoue > Firmino
    Bolasie > Walcott
    Valencia > Holebas

Played AoA and put Holebas on the bench!
Captained Kun and have benteke (-3 between them)!

25pts with Firmino, Rashford and Clyne to play. Now hoping the latter doesnt.

Sorry...I did have a smooth. Finally played my Heaton/Foster combo right.

Hi. I have 2FTs. What to do?

    Pick, Grant
    Koscielny, Baines, Holebas, Lovren, Amat
    Sanchez, Firmino, Sterling, Capoue, Snodgrass
    Kun, Lukaku, Deeney

Thinking to do Sterling -> Walcott.
Or take a little gamble by doing Sanchez + Sterling -> Coutinho + Walcott.
