The Community Round-Up

With the next international break imminent, many of those still with their Wildcard to play are getting itchy trigger fingers.

Our Hot Topic posters consider the merits of using this chip ahead of Gameweek 8, but also reveal how doing nothing may actually be a sound strategy for success.

For our community scribes, the improving fortunes of elite managers as well as the views of the masses come under scrutiny, while budget options are among the issues considered by the statistical boffins in our Members’ area.

We finish off with a look at those who may not need to overhaul their side after already excelling at the top of our community competitions.

The Community Articles

After a torrid start to the season, the Career Hall of Fame top five had reason to be cheerful this week with a strong set of scores, according to Top Marx’s latest analysis of their performances so far.

Meanwhile, Hutch_James has been canvassing the views of the masses on where this weekend’s points hauls may be found and AceKn1ght has been delving into players’ underlying statistics to add to the crystal ball gazing.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topic

The season’s second international break gets underway after this weekend’s fixtures and is set to herald another spell of Wildcard fever among the community.

Danielsson dropped by to point out the benefits of Wildcarding at this relatively early stage of the season.

Those taking the plunge are advised to read Red Lightning’s Hot Topic on the best strikers to recruit and our formation discussion takes in the optimum strategy for success.

Sadly, Wildcarders will be deprived of Sergio Aguero, who looks to be unavailable for selection for a number of weeks after being involved in a car accident in Holland on Thursday. We asked how his absence is likely to affect future transfer plans.

Regarding rearguard targets, Jimmzzz’s look at the best Burnley defenders should help those looking for a cheap enabler, while Ludo has been considering the value offered by Chelsea’s pricier options at the back.

Before players jet off to represent their country, there’s the more pressing issue of navigating Gameweek 7 to deal with.

We canvassed your views on the best one-week punt for this weekend’s matches for those looking to overhaul their squad during the break, while Hokey Cokey Whizz revealed what the bookies are saying about Gameweek 7’s clean sheet and goal scoring potential.

The merits of Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku as captaincy options this weekend also came under scrutiny.

Elsewhere, Twisted Saltergater is proposing radical action for those looking to climb the rankings this weekend, by deploying the Free Hit chip to take advantage of strong fixtures for Manchester United and Arsenal in particular, who face striker-less sides Crystal Palace and Brighton respectively.

Those considering this move can take comfort from Lorenzo’s successful use of this chip during Gameweek 6. In our “rough with the smooth” round-up of your latest points tallies, he revealed that using this chip to take advantage of easy fixtures for Chelsea and Manchester City earned him 105 points, a full 30 point profit.

But as Knowledgeable Meerkat has found out, sometimes inactivity can bring greater rewards, after discovering an online gadget that can calculate our team FPL totals if we made no changes or transfers since Gameweek 1.

Finally, we are on the look out for proficient writers with experience of using social media to join the FFScout team. Mark posted this Hot Topic with full details of how to apply.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members’ Tables

For those on the look out for a budget midfielder, I’ve created a table featuring players priced at 4.5 or below.

FPL Virgin has also been seeking out value, via the Burnley backline, as well as showcasing the latest baseline bonus magnets.

Defenders come under the gaze of Jcrosbie, with his table examining their key performance statistics, including attacking potential.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Fabio Borges is the new leader of the FFS Members league and Red Lightning’s Top 10,000 Any Season. This is his fourth season, and he already has two top 5,000 finishes under his belt.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition, Lorenzo hit the top score in Gameweek 6 with 105. There are over 3,100 teams left after 212 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 53.

Evs has reclaimed the lead in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league, with last year’s overall FPL runner-up Uwais Ahmed in second. Meanwhile, in the moderators and contributors draft league Andy is in the lead with 12 points, with six others in hot pursuit all on nine points.

Goldman is on the look-out for EA Sports Fifa players to join the FFS community team.

Elsewhere, QPR Utd stays top of his own FFS Frequent Summer Posters league, closely followed by Urchin and Jallegere.

The bidding is now complete in the Community Watch tournament with squads ready to do battle, according to AA33’s latest update on behalf of the organising committee.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

*My user guide for the Casuals in my ML - any other important points missed?* 🙂

TITLE: Successfully Navigating your International Break Wildcard. A useful guide for dummies.

    1. Familiarise yourself with the price change models on FFFix app and http://www.fplstatsistics.co.uk

FFFix is an excellent tool for indicating rate of transfers in and out for each player - particularly useful for pin pointing bandwagons.

FPLStats is helpful for identifying the price rise and fall thresholds for each player with a little more accuracy than Fix.

Neither are full proof, and the Price Change Goblins at FPL love to throw in the odd curveball.

    2. Carefully plan your strategy for the coming gameweeks - which players/teams do I need to invest, which do I need to avoid?

    3. After the GW deadline has passed, take note of the players in your squad whose value has not risen 0.1+, and is not expected to rise anytime soon. Earmark these guys for the boot following the first round of matches.

    4. Be aware that price changes occur every night at around 1-2am GMT. Plan any transfers before each deadline.

    5. Hold any players you own which have risen 0.1 or more. Decide which you plan to keep and bank them - don't move them out.
For any you plan to sell, first check there are not likely to be any further rises following their weekend performances. Even if you do eventually sell, it's better to receive any additional 0.1 rise(s) first to maximise team value.

    6. Carefully monitor price rises to ensure that you pick up any definite and potential targets before a rise to avoid being priced out.

    7. Remember, avoiding price falls is arguably more important than gaining rises.

But don't forget that you can absorb any falls from players you already own who have made an odd number of price rises (+0.1, +0.3, etc) since joining your squad.

Check the 'list view' on your transfer page for information on Original Purchase Price (PP), Current Market Price (CP) and Current Selling Price (SP).

    E.g. PP 5.6m, CP 5.7m, SP 5.6m - a fall of 0.1 will not affect your SP.

    8. Do jump on any bandwagons, but be willing to jump off if the player in question does not fit into your Mid-Long term strategy. After all, Points are far more important than Team Value.

    9. Hit that WC switch early and have fun tinkering!

The entire thing is about price rises.. there's a lot more to it than making monies..

TBF I'm not going to tell anyone WHO to buy!!
I've said Pts are more important than ££ (8) and to carefully form a plan etc.(2) not all about the rises

No but one of the main reasons to WC is because of fixture changes or Considering big players coming back into the frame, you mention none of this just 9 points about price changes when that's one of the last things to consider especially if you're a casual.

Sorry but I disagree with this.

      My user guide would say..

      1) Look at fixtures
      2) Look at form
      3) Pick the best players who combine the 2.
      4) Your Team Value will organically rise as a result.

Team Value is less severe than previous seasons and is less relevant than previous years.

      10. Visit injury monitoring sites to decide on whether to bench or sell a injured player

      11. Use ownership to climb/protect rank. ie get highly owned perfoming players (Lukaku/Kane)with a differential or two (Haz)

I would be looking to bring in Cedric or Creswell for a hit.

Longer term Lowe, Mbemba, RLC and Chalobah is asking for trouble. You may well end up with 10 out this week.

Creswell coule well outscore Mbemba by 4 points or more. If Jones doesn't play the loss will also be mitigated. You will also have a better balance moving forward.

Every hit needs to be analysed on it's own merit. The fact that you are on -4 is largely irrelevant.

I disagree. I don't think bringing in Cedric for example, would justify it. Otherwise I have no Issues to go -12's.

Hits about who you think will justify the -4 or -8. I don't see anyone would do it now due to limited funds I have.

own Lukaku but will ship him afer CP.
I feel that my strikers can match them and when you can use that money to get better team - Alonso, good 3rd striker etc it may work. Risky but I feel that this front 3 will score big like Lukaku or Kane.

I think Kane shoud be in every team but that is just me.

Well, I just 3x captained Lukaku.

      - Man U 13 - 0 - 3 v Palace
      - Palace just lost 0 - 5, looked pathetic
      - Lukaku had same fixture last year this day and scored while on Everton
      - Man U rolling over everyone
      - New manager for Palace didn't immediately stop the flood, which it should have
      - Palace without Benteke this week, so no pressure coming to United, RLC out as well

I have Lukaku, Kane and Morata but is it worth bringing in Lacazette for this week and then switching back to either Morata or Jesus this evening?

No I'm currently on a wildcard, but can't decide on whether to sit tight with Morata or switch out to Laca for one week.

I suppose I have Ramsey as some sort of cover for Arsenal so may hold on to Morata

Is Lukaku going to start? Limited minutes? He played the whole CL game, Mourinho could've managed his minutes since they were winning, but he left him on. It's screaming "going to rest him" vs the worst team on the planet on Saturday. Thoughts?

Could happen yes but i doubt it personally. Captain someone else if you think there is a chance he could be rested.

I'm on wildcard, which defender do you prefer:

    Monreal
    Trippier
    Danilo

Monreal or Danilo. Not sure about Danilos game time though.

Monreal most nailed but i am looking at Danilo next gw but will expect the occasional random benching for the prime home games i would most want him for

I went for Danilo below as Moneral fixtures are tough soon. I think Danilo should be first choice and he can also play almost anywhere across a back 5

    A) bailey and lukaku or Valencia and Lacazette ( already have mkhitriyan)

Thoughts on this potential WC appreciated:

    Foster
    Danilo, Jones, Ward
    Eriksen, Salah, Sterling, Chupo,
    Kane, Morata, Vardy

    Elliot, Mbemba, RLC, Naughton
    0.0 itb

Trying to play the fixtures from next GW which is why I have let go of Lukaku and Mkhi. Another option would be Mkhi & Silva for Salah & Sterling.

    Morning!

Should I go for a one week punt like Vardy in for Firmino and wildcard next week?

Or do I just bank the transfer and do 2-3 transfers next week and keep the WC firmly in the pocket?

    Foster Elliot
    Kola Davies TAA Suttner Prödl
    Salah Mkhi Ritchie Brady Carroll
    Kane Lukaku Firmino
