FPL Title In the Balance

After a dramatic final day for all the wrong reasons, the Fantasy Premier League season has been extended following the disturbing abandonment of the Manchester United and Bournemouth encounter.

It means that the situation at the top remains undecided, although from our calculations of the scheduled autosubs, Dimitri Nicolaou has preserved his lead by just a single point.

A member of the Fantasy Football Scout league, Dimitri went into the final day 18 points ahead of Jamie Fitzpatrick and 24 in front of Jack Manners.

While Jamie has fallen away with a disappointing tally of 26, Jack has dramatically closed the gap via his captaincy of Sadio Mane and has collected 57 points after autosubs, with Charlie Daniels yet to play.

It could have been even better: had both Ross Barkley or Aaron Lennon remained on the Everton bench, Jack would have collected an additional seven points from his third benched player, Michail Antonio.

Dimitri has mustered 34 points after autosubs having taken a 4-point hit; he elected instead to play his All-Out-Attack chip which was duly nullified by Philippe Coutinho’s no-show.

It appears that Dimitri remains a point ahead of Jack but with both Chris Smalling and Marcus Rashford left to play in the re-arranged fixture, now confirmed for Tuesday May 17.

Ed Masters, a regular poster under the guise of “Mo Mane Mo Problems” and a full Fantasy Football Scout member, has climbed to third spot at this point.

Ed also captained Mane and produced a superb final day tally of 57 points following a hit; we make it that he’s eight points behind Dimitri with David de Gea still to play.

With the United and Bournemouth fixture to follow, there are still multiple scenarios that could see the top spots shuffle once again.

Louis van Gaal will surely consider playing a weakened lineup against the Cherries given that Manchester City have now sealed fourth spot and with the weekend FA Cup Final in mind.

David de Gea could be the only assured starter as he looks to claim the clean sheet which would see him contest the Golden Glove award with Arsenal’s Petr Cech.

Dimitri, Jack and Ed are currently left waiting on the outcome of Tuesday evening to see how it will fall. Until then, the FPL title remains in limbo.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Baines and Bertrand penalties today.

Baines - Daniels - Bertrand the nailed on back line for next season?

Surely Bertrand only took it due to Tadic having been subbed off?

This seems to be the case but then given Tadic's sporadic minutes it could be fruitful. Go on let us dream 😉

Yeah, that's puzzled me. I can only think he didn't want to disrupt his team for fear of having tough decisions to make but you'd have thought he's have played it and just made a few. Really not sure what went on there.

After a pretty average season from Man U. Any chance LVG has of keeping his job is winning the FA Cup.

Surely he has to maximise that chance by resting vital players

Hello, folks. I would really appreciate your take on this. My cash mini-league comes down to this:

    ME/1st: DDG + Smailling + 13pts

    2ND: Martial

    What do you think?

Been playing 7 years and never won my mini-league. Always find a way to finish second. I fear I have become the Arsene Wenger . . . .

He is so important so they want him fresh and healthy for the final.

DDG will but can't see any of Martial/Rooney/Smalling playing, why would they? Team shud win without them and with cup final only 5 days later.

For some reason I've got a feeling that next season they'll keep the chips but revert the second wildcard to January use only. I don't think they intended to give "serious players" such a big advantage by combining them.

Yeah, could be. I assume that they will ask Mark for feedback (on behalf of players in general).

yeah probably. i get the idea in principle to keep interest but there are still tons of players in my MLs that just don't bother or forget after a while, it's just the way it goes.

If your 5th mid got off the bench and got you more points than your defenders that should have been considered a success rather than it being considered a failure if one of your attackers blanked . If Everton had delivered and Liverpool had not rotated ....

aoa just has more propensity to be neutral or cost you points, although you could say that about the wildcards 🙂

Yep the jury is out on watching more football. First question I'd ask this season's winner is just how many live matches they managed to watch.

I've struggled a lot more since having the kids but I'm hoping to up it a bit next season.

Thing is stats can only tell you so much, i fell into the trap presented on here and on the scoutcast, of andy carrol's stats but my history of watching football told me he's no where near good enough to convert alot of them. So IMO watching football is equally important.

Some players like Barkley are a stats trap so you have to use a bit of both to make a decision.

Stats never lie. It's all about the interpretation and understanding what they represent.

having said that, I think watching the matches adds another dimension of opinion on players. e.g as soon as Antonio came on the season there was clearly something about him.

I live in the US and every match is on basic cable (no extra charge) and I still find it hard to fit in a lot of matches. I tend to get caught up in my own players and watch those matches, rather than scouting out other players. Must change that approach I guess.

Yep membership is incoming here as well. Watching a match or three every day is not enough, I will have to step it up next season.

Having reeled in my rival from 180 behind I'm now sitting 28 ahead after a 4 point hit to bring Mane in. It's his Martial vs my Smalling and Lingard. To rub salt in he benched Baines!

So hoping for a Valencia no show and a DDG clean sheet to steal 2nd place in my money league by 1pt. That would be quite funny

After a pretty average season from Man U. Any chance LVG has of keeping his job is winning the FA Cup.

Surely he has to maximise that chance by resting vital players
