Wayne Rooney has broken a bone in his left-foot during today’s stalemate with Reading and now faces at least a month on the sidelines. Rooney hobbled off at half-time and failed to appear for the second-half with Nani replacing him. After the game Rooney was sent for a scan and it has been revealed that the striker had suffered a hairline fracture of his left-foot. United have yet to speculate just how long Rooney will be out, however it’s likely he’ll be absent until the middle of September at the very least.
The injury will doubtless mean that Carlos Tevez will make his debut for United at Portsmouth on Wednesday, even though Ferguson planned to ease him in gently. United also have Saha and Solskjaer nearing fitness. Both should be available by early September.
Many Fantasy Managers are likely to turn to Tevez as a straight replacement, although Didier Drogba is another consideration having appeared for Chelsea in the second-half, making him almost certain to start in midweek against Reading. Elsewhere the likes of Van Persie, Torres, McCarthy, Viduka and Martins miss a game in midweek, although Anelka, Yakubu and the Spurs trio of Berbatov, Bent and Keane are also options. Opting for a mid-price option however, will mean either sitting on the excess funds from selling Rooney, or spending them on a second transfer just one week into the Fantasy season. A tough decision for a lot of managers so early in the season.
To help you out, I’ve set up new poll to canvas opinion on the likely replacements.
