The fears over Fernando Torres’ fitness for the weekend appear to have been allayed by the striker himself and he now looks on course to start against Chelsea at the weekend.
Torres was subbed after just 23-minutes of Spain’s friendly against France last night, and it was thought that he had picked up a hamstring injury. However, it’s been revealed that Torres requested the substitution and that the injury itself not serious.
“I preferred not to risk it,” said Torres. “I demanded the change” remarked Torres today.
“I will have medical tests, but I intend to play on Sunday against Chelsea.”
Meanwhile the Spanish team doctor, Jorge Candel, offers some reassurance on the scale of the injury…
“The injury of Torres is not of major importance,” added Candel today.
He will remain a doubt then, however, the news is far better for Liverpool and owners of Torres than it first appeared this morning.
