Fernando Torres will undergo scans on a series of injuries today after a bruising encounter with the United defence yesterday.

According to Rafa, Torres came out of the game nursing a number of knocks which led to his substitution with 10-minutes remaining.

“He has some knocks on his ribs and ankle – a lot of knocks and a lot of kicks,” remarked Benitez.

Torres will be a doubt for Spain’s international with Italy this week and more importantly, the Merseyside Derby next weekend.

The Torres will situation will need to be monitored closely by his fantasy owners. With the Liverpool title challenge over, Rafa could now up his protection of the striker with the Champions League in mind. That could well lead to Rafa reverting to a rest policy with his star asset, even with fourth place at stake.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
