It seems the concerns over the fitness of Fernando Torres after Spain’s game with Italy were premature. Updated reports today confirm suspicions that Liverpool had agreed that Torres would be replaced shortly half-time in the friendly game. It’s therefore expected that Rafa will be able to name Torres in his lineup for the Merseyside Derby on Sunday and today he is currently weighing up his options for that game.
With that in mind, the report in the Liverpool Echo also confirms that Steve Finnan is back in contention for a recall this weekend, while Benayoun could well be considered in midfield with Mascherano suspended. The Israeli scored the winner in his national side’s win over Chile last night. Lucas would still be my bet to take Mascherano’s place however.
