Rafa has offered us more clues as to how he will incorporate new signing Robbie Keane into the Liverpool lineup, adding some credence to my earlier speculative article.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official site, Rafa first confirms the obvious – that Keane was bought to partner Torres up front. However, he adds further detail that hints that he has him earmarked for the Dirk Kuyt role.

“We were looking for a player with game intelligence and good movement who could play alongside Torres. He can play with Torres up front and also on the right”.

That last remark could be significant. It certainly seems to indicate that, as suspected, he could be employed in a wider role so that Rafa can maintain the 4-3-3 that served Liverpool so well at the end of last season. That would hopefully ensure that Gerrard is free to add his considerable talents to Liverpool’s attacking efforts, particularly at Anfield where he and Torres returned so many points for fantasy managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
