Those fantasy managers still stalling on signing Christiano Ronaldo can sit back and take some satisfaction from a whole array of reports today in which the player admits that he has still not fully recovered from injury.
“It will be another two or three weeks before I can give 100 per cent,” remarks Ronaldo.
“I feel very good. There is good improvement there and I am very happy to be back…But my ankle has still not fully recovered. I still feel it a little bit.”
Is this enough to give Ronaldo’s new owners some cause for concern?
Unlikely. While it’s clear that he is still some way short of his superhuman best – last night’s missed opportunity when one-on-one with the keeper the latest evidence of that – most of us will happily settle for a 90% fit Ronaldo. He notched an assist for Berbatov’s second goal against Aalborg, to go with the assist for Rooney’s strike and the penalty against Bolton last weekend. He’s already producing the goods then – although we shouldn’t expect the massive points haul of last season just yet.
The risk of Ferguson handing the winger a rest is more of a concern but then with the international break to follow this weekend, his fantasy owners should be able to rest easy on that score. After that, we’re promised a fully fit Ronaldo and we know by now how devastating that can be for all involved.
As for those yet to invest – at least you’ve been handed some new justification for the decision and reassurance that you might not be losing out in the short-term after all.
