Fernando Torres will be out for “two to three weeks” after suffering further complications with his hamstring following last night’s Champions League win over Marseille.
There were a number of unconfirmed reports overnight, stating that Torres felt discomfort in his hamstring following last night’s game. These reports have now been confirmed by the club in a statement made this evening…
Torres will likely miss games against West Ham, Blackburn and Hull in the Premiership, with a probable return lined up against Arsenal on December 21. This will come as a bitter blow to Rafa who has only just welcomed back the striker after a six week absence.
Robbie Keane is doubtless set to benefit with a run of unchallenged starts over the next few weeks, while Kuyt and Gerrard could also be pushed into more central attacking roles as a result of this setback. Both are worth further consideration – particularly by those with Torres funds to spend.
In other news from the club, Aurellio’s calf injury was also confirmed. He will be out for around two weeks. Dossena will now get starts against West Ham and Blackburn.
