Ronaldo’s two yellows in the City game earlier today has got plenty of us (me included) in a crazed spin of confusion and frustration. With United’s missing fixture in gameweek 18, there’s even talk of hovering over the “sell” button.
Amongst the frenzy of the past half hour, the reality of the situation is that according to FA procedures, Ronaldo will face an immediate ban for one match and that will be United’s Carling Cup Quarter Final with Blackburn on Wednesday….
Here’s the official FA ruling on Ronaldo’s dismissal…
“A player who is dismissed from the field of play for receiving a second caution in the same match will be suspended automatically from all approved first team matches commencing forthwith, until such time as his club’s first team has completed its next match in an approved competition.”
The League Cup is an approved competition, so despite the fact that Ronaldo would have been unlikely to start that game, he will serve his suspension on Wednesday. That will make him available for the potential United points-fest against Sunderland.
