Mikel Arteta has sustained a knee injury that seems set to threaten his chances of contributing to Everton’s kind run over fixtures over the next month.

The Spaniard fell awkwardly early on in today’s 0-0 at Newcastle and was subbed after just 7 minutes. Arteta was immediately taken back to Merseyside to undergo scans. Early thoughts are that he may have suffered ligament damage.

It’s too early to be considering a prognosis but the news will be a major concern for Everton and for his fantasy owners who will have been looking forward to profitable run from the playmaker. Arteta was bought by over 28,000 FPL managers this week and is/was sitting top of my midfield monthly rankings for the next five games. It’s likely we’re know more on the injury within 24 hours.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
