Rafa Benitez has revealed that Steven Gerrard is fit to take the field against Lyon tomorrow night, although Fernando Torres will sit that one out and therefore remains a doubt for us fantasy managers going into the weekend tussle with United.

Both missed Liverpool’s defeat at Sunderland of course and, as a result, both have suffered significant sales in fantasy terms. Right now both players have been sold by over 18,000 this gamweek, with Gerrard racking up 130,000 sales last week and Torres over 80,000.

The likes of Fabregas, Drogba and Bent have doubtless turned the heads of many Torres and Gerrard owners and the Liverpool pair are now shaping up to be a decent differential across the mini-leagues. To be fair, the fixture list doesn’t fall too kindly for Liverpool in weeks to come and with form fluctuating wildly, it seems likely that we’ll see more fantasy managers sell their prize Liverpool stock as the week progresses, regardless of news on Torres for the weekend.

It’s hard to imagine that we’d be contemplating our fantasy lineups without either Lampard or Gerrard and yet, with the form of Fabregas and the big strikers, that’s fast become a reality.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
