While Burnley have struggled to find wins of late, they continue to score goals. Fourteen in their last eight games belies their recent run, particularly away from home where they can’t buy a win but certainly can stretch their opponents defence. Owen Coyle’s recent reorganisation of the Burnley attack has seen two players emerge as potential fantasy targets.
Steven Fletcher, the club’s record transfer purchase from Hibernian, has been brought in from the flank and handed the centre-forward role, while Chris Eagles has been introduced out wide – leaving no place for loan signing Dave Nugent. Their impact has been significant and in the last few matches, before the disappointing 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth, Fletcher and Eagles returned four goals and four assists in three league games…
Eagles fetch of two goals and three assists thus far are particularly impressive considering that he has only started six league games this season. Fletcher meanwhile, has scored his five goals in the last eight league starts. Form is certainly on their side then, while the fixture list is hardly working against them. Burnley have a very decent run of opponents to come from gameweeks 16-21 (FUL ARS wlv BOL eve STK). Only the home game with Arsenal in gameweek 17 looks daunting and even in that one, you’d fancy Burnley to net past the Gunners suspect backline.
Continued returns for Fletcher and Eagles look on the cards then and at 5.6 and 4.9 in the FPL, they are offering excellent value for the coming weeks. Expect them to remain on our Watchlist for a good while then.
