While the upcoming gameweek is causing headaches all around with so many teams spoiling us for choice, it’s a great opportunity to look for defenders that won’t just participate in this “Double”, but one that’s worth holding onto in the long term, too.

With that in mind, step forward Michael Dawson. The Spurs centre half is in a rich vein of form both personally, and as part of a back four that is looking more impressive by the week.

Hampered by injury earlier in the season, Dawson is now fully recovered and is pretty much a nailed-on first choice at the heart of ‘Arry’s defence. Since returning to the fold, he’s played 8 full games, scoring 2 goals, picking up 4 bonus points and clocking up 4 clean sheets in the process, which is a return of 46 points, just shy of 6 points per game.

Spurs next seven fixtures are Hull (home) Liverpool (away) Fulham (home) Birmingham (away) Aston Villa (home) Wolves (away) Wigan (away), and whilst the most difficult, the visit to Anfield, would normally make us think twice, the fact it’s part of a double gameweek combined with a home game against Hull counters any argument against benching him.

At a mere £4.9m on FPL and with just 1.7% of managers as owners, Dawson has “fantasy bargain” written all over him.
