Chelsea have confirmed that Petr Cech will be sidelined for “three to four weeks” with a tear in his calf muscle. The Blues keeper collapsed an hour into the 2-1 defeat to Inter last night and was stretchered from the field amidst fears of a knee injury and a long term absence.
Although Cech has avoided a long absence, today’s scan results will come as a blow to Chelsea, with the keeper now looking likely to miss the second leg with Inter at Stamford Bridge. In fantasy terms, due to Chelsea’s FA Cup Quarter-Final in gameweek 29, Cech will likely only miss this weekend’s fixture with City, plus the home game with West Ham in gameweek 30. There is a possibility that his absence will extend to Chelsea’s double fixtures with Blackburn and Portsmouth in gameweek 31.
Should Cech look set to miss four league matches then the potential of Henrique Hilario. A Watchlist article on him is on its way.
